Walk-Jog Advice Needed

Monday, April 18, 2016

I started walking/jogging with my husband in 2014, and since last summer we go at least 1 time on the weekend. We do anywhere from 3.4-5.5 miles. And we do a few hills.

(I was not athletic growing up so this is all new to me though I have always worked out or tried to do stuff - lifting, treadmill, etc.)

During the week since we started walk/jogging, I do ab workouts & I do Walk Away The Pounds or Chris Freytag workouts. (usually 20-30 minutes before work). I eat good (no fast food, watch gluten & sugars - you can see my trackers here)

My problem is I still ache so badly after we walk/run. Every time. My upper shoulders, lower back, my arms, my legs feel heavy thick. my ankles creak, knees crack. I stretch my legs before we go & after. (Hams shins & quads)

Last night we went at 6pm. I thought maybe going later it would make me sleep, but I could not get comfortable. I took Ibuprofen finally & I am up taking more today. I am 52, 5 ft 4 & am up to 170 lbs. (my weight seems to be going up).

My husband says that I am not doing it enough, but come on. It has been over a year of this. I googled this morning & I dont see anything about others having an issue.

I dont want to give it up as my husband is a really fit runner. I had blood work done in the fall & everything was good. I just want to know if others had this same issue in the beginning years.

Thanks for any advice, I ache so back today - again. Ugh!!

I used to practice Chi Form of Walk/Running but maybe I need to pay attention to what I am doing again. I used to always check my form in the beginning & I have said HEAD UP, Shoulders down while I get in the hard parts. I need to be more aware.

And yes, there is a store called South Sound Running Store that just opened down here by my work. Someone said maybe have them properly fit me - since my Nike 5s are from Sports Authority. Never thought about a group before. My friend used to belong to Fleet Fleet running years ago. That is a thought also.

How is your posture? Is there a local road runners club that you can join. They often have training sessions. How strong is your core? Back muscles, glutes, quads, hamstrings, flexors and extensors? Very important to avoid injury. Pain should not be ignored.

Try adding magnesium there is a supplement called -calm- you add to water. I know spiruluna tablets also help if you take before or after workout.
