Stomach go owie

Tuesday, April 19, 2016

We refer to this time of year as birthday season in our family. It starts with my youngest on the 14th, then her twins on the 18th, my son-in-law on the 21st, my oldest daughter on the 28th and then my son on May 5th. My version of planned parenthood?

This year we also hit the most milestone birthdays we will in one year. Shelby turning 21, her twins turning 1 and my son turning 30. So many celebrations, so many foods I don't normally eat.

In the last week I've eaten BBQ burgers twice. Normally I don't eat store bought pre-made patties but this week I've had two. I knew the parties were coming and made sure I had the calories available but that didn't matter. My body is not used to eating these foods and ouch, ouch, ouch. My stomach is in knots and I'm up 2 pounds. So not worth it.

But it's only 2 pounds and I know what kind of weight gain it is and it's not a binge eating or a long term bad change in my lifestyle. Certainly didn't tempt me to go back to eating this way.

The nice thing was that after dinner last night my daughter's MIL suggested her and I go for a walk, she's been lacking exercise and missing our runs and hikes. We headed out and ended up doing a 5K very brisk walk in 40 mins. Very brisk. Problem was that neither of us had the right shoes on and we both ended up with huge blisters on the bottom of our feet. So now stomach and feet go owie. Blisters or not it was nice to get out and consider 5K a short after dinner walk.

It's a beautiful day here today and I'm hoping to do a hike after work today and then a nice healthy dinner of grilled shrimp and fresh veggies. Please forgive me stomach, I still love you.

Yep, the celebrations are tough, but you will get back on track. Blisters are tough. Have you ever tried the blister bandaids? I use them - you leave them on for a few days and they actually help heal the blisters. I had a couple of blisters from vacation and used them - found them several years ago.

What I can really appreciate from your story is how your body reacts. This happens to me also and I am amazed at how a year of healthy eating can transform how you feel in relationship to food. Not just mentally because it may not be the best for you but how the body says "Yuck". That was a fast 5K walk!!

So many birthdays means a lot of food you're not used to. I know my stomach gets mad at me when I eat stuff it's not used to. Hope your stomach (and feet) feel better quickly!

Yeah, it's celebration season here too. DS2 was first, then my mom in March, Dad in April, Easter usually hits right in there some where, then my anniversary, then my birthday, DS1's birthday, SIL's birthday and then we are finally done for 2 months before we start into more of it. It's a roller coaster of foods around here when it starts. You go from one up day to down the carb slide, around the corner to another party and on and on it goes! It is good to know that our bodies are not used to it anymore though. We can see what it does to us and we don't want to go back to that every day. Yuck! Best of luck to you as you work through these exciting days!

Yes once you are used to eating in a more healthy way, the old stomach doth protest! Sounds like you've got a plan for the coming celebrations. Enjoy and congratulations!

As long as you keep active you'll probably lose those added pounds quickly.

It's probably bloat from the amount of sodium in the patties. I recommend Jillian Michaels detox water. It really helps me remove the excess water weight.

I feel your pain. My stomach does that to me when I eat foods I'm not used to. It's hard to believe I used to eat fast food on a regular basis. I'd be scared to even try it now. The havoc it would cause my stomach is not worth it!
