7K trail run
Monday, April 25, 2016
This afternoon was cloudy and a bit cool, great weather for a trail run. I wanted to push a bit further so I ran ahead of my husband and got 7K in while he did just over 5. Someone asked me what's the difference in trail running and running on the road and why I liked it so much.
I find it much more challenging. So many hills, roots and soooooooo much mud. But mostly, the beauty of nature, the stillness, the solitude and every ounce of stress leaves my body.
The mud puddles were big today but the runners I wear on these type of trails have been through so much mud one more puddle really wasn't going to matter. I was impressed to how well my new socks did though, my feet are still dry.
Running up hill while running over roots was certainly a challenge, you have to be so mindful of where you are landing your feet.
After about 6K I hit this, my only thought was "Are you F* kidding me?!" That's right, I went there.
But then I got to this and instantly I was in awe of the silence and beauty of the area.
When I saw this I knew I was just about done.
How much more challenging is this run compared to a road run? Well for me I would say A LOT! In comparison when I run 5K on the roads, even with hills my average pace is just under 8 min/KM. When I do a trail run I average just over 11 min/KM. When I get home I can feel it in my legs much more than a run on the road but my mood is so elevated it's addicting. I've got just over 4 weeks until my 10K road/trail race. I'm getting excited!
