Got My Dates & General Update

Wednesday, July 13, 2016

Hi everyone! Hope you are all having a shiny week so far.

My pre-op class is on July 28th, wherein a group of us all having the procedure will learn about after care, diet, what to expect, etc. Individually we will meet with the anesthesiologist and the ARNP for the bariatric team to go over any personal details and questions.

I have to start a "Blended Liquid Diet" on July 25th for the three weeks leading up to my surgery on August 15th. This is to ensure that my stomach and liver shrink as well as to make sure my upper intestinal tract is empty for the procedure. Woot.

So I moved Operation Bucket List up a bit so that it can be completed by the 25th which is a mere 12 days away! The list is small but contains a sampling of things I'll pretty much never eat or drink again. Tiramisu will be missed, as will my occasional margaritas. My life will be better, but I will still think on them fondly from time to time.

I'm not really nervous about this any more. I'm excited, and anxious to get it over with mostly. I've been mentally prepared since the day I set up my consultation in February. I'd already been thinking of it for a couple of years and doing loads of research, talking to real patients who have had it done, etc. But things take time. Thankfully my insurance company was not a hold up, as they can be for some folks. Considering my BMI is over 50 and I have both pre-diabetes, and Sleep Apnea and PCOS, I didn't think they would be an obstacle.

I have a therapy appointment on August 1st so I'll be regaling my therapist with an overload of information about the surgery and how much I love or hate the blended liquid diet. lol. The blended liquid diet isn't as bad as it may sound, really. Basically it's pureed soft foods like yogurt and fruit for instance. Pudding and mashed potatoes are still an option and don't need to be blended as they're already soft.

There are a good number of yummy things on this list, so I don't think I'll have difficulty sticking with it, though it is a LOW number of calories. 800 on alternate days and 1200 on alternate days. If I weren't under a surgeon's supervision I would NEVER eat so few calories.

In other news, the cats are 14 this year; Osiris is still a jerk and Avalon is still a sweetie pie who just wants her belly pettins.

That's about it for me for now.
