C-pap

Monday, September 26, 2016

Like many obese people I have sleep apnea. I have tries c-pap several times, unsuccessfully, over the years. Partly motivated by reports it creates weightloss, but not enough to deal with the hassle. Now my most recent sleep report has significant # of cardiac disrythmias & I am motivated to comply & make this work, but the leaking air is annoying, it wakes me up, but mostly it is irritating my eyes terribly. I put eye gel in, but still irritated & red eyes. Made appointment with eye dr to "see" what he recommends because I really need to make this work this time.

I don't think it's an eye Dr issue I think you have to get a better fit for your mask and head gear. Go back to your sleep Dr.

I've been using a cPap machine since 2005. I think I was good for a year or two then didn't use it regularly for a few months. Then a good friend shared the side effects of not using it....and scared me back to using it now for years.

My husband has used both the nostrils cpap and the mask c-pap. Try both to see if you can tolerate one more than the other.

My daughter couldn't tolerate that machine due to sensory processing issues. I'd be interested to know what else there is that would help (losing weight, yes). Thanks.

A friend of mine said her machine didn't work for her so she said she had better results sleeping on her side.

If it's an option for you, try the nasal pillows. Make sure you are getting a tight seal to avoid leaks. Also does your machine have a built in humidifier? Mine gives me a claustrophobic feeling even w/ nasal pillows, wish there were other options.

I've used one for about 16 mos. It started out as a cup like mask for my nose&leaked air too.Now I use a little thing that kinda fits barely into my nostrils. There's NO air leaking at all.My point - go back & have them fit you for something different
