Walking Puppies

Thursday, September 29, 2016

I have two lab/hound mix puppies (5 months, about 50 pounds, so pretty big dogs) that I walk twice daily: Colby and Jack. Tonight, one of these babies (Colby) found something to pick up on the walk. I am always telling him to "leave it", or "drop it". He rarely listens. But I could hear him crunching it and I was thinking about what it could be, and didn't want him to have it. After much negotiation, I used my t-shirt as a sort of glove to get it out of his mouth.

It was a flat frog, and I now had frog guts on my shirt. I was so grossed out, I was tempted to come home. I hate that stuff, and I did embarrass myself by making quite a fuss.

I think the fuss startled Colby and Jack, because they were easier to walk after that. :)

It is amazing how when they think they have upset you a dog will behave better for a while!

I hate when that happens. I usually have poop bags to help remove things from a dog mouth though sometimes I can just shake it out.

Oh, yeah! Puppies will eat just anything won't they? My little guy is six months old now and I can't believe the nasty things I pull out of his month. Never frog gut though, least not yet!

Oh gross! Lesson learned from this - carry an old dust cloth or plastic bag or something with you on walks in case they find more treasures?
I like TamiP's comment about what Colby was probably thinking. Funny.
On the positive side... not only are you getting in a walk every day because of the rambunctious pups, you're probably getting in some strength training manhandling them enough to keep them in line.

Your dogs' names make me want a grilled cheese sandwich, lol.

At least Colby didn't have a reaction to the frog. My Siberian Husky once got a hold of a toad and instantly started foaming at the mouth---which I suppose is a normal thing for dogs who eat toads, but it scared me nonetheless. I hope you're able to get the frog guts out of your t-shirt. I've never seen a Tide commercial advertise that as one of its stain removing abilities, so it'll be interesting to hear if it does work. Haha!

LOL Colby was probably thinking "hey, you wanted it, what are you freaking out about."

LOL that reminded me of my dog that found a rotten duck egg and liked it so much that he rolled himself in it and came running in the house to share it with me. I heaved all the way to the bathroom to bathe him.
