Trying to decide

I joined SP several years ago and my BMR was determined then. I reconnected to SP this summer and the BMR is 600 calories too much for me now. If I reset it, I loose all my tracking info. I can live with starting at level one for SP points, but I'm so proud of my fitness minutes, I really don't want them to disappear. It may be silly, but starting from zero hurts my heart.
I've tried managing food by ignoring the wrong BMR, but that leads to me over eating, at times, because I feel like I am entitled to it because the # is there, so defeating myself.
Intellectually I know resetting is the way to go & in the long run it won't make any difference to reset the count, but emotionally this is a big deal.
What would you do & why?
