The big 4-9

Well, my last blog post was called "The Big 5-0," and it was the "start" of my journey to lose 50 pounds by age 50. I wrote it about a month ago in recognition that my 49th birthday was fast approaching. Today is the day. My 49th birthday.

Sadly, the scale is not showing a loss from that blog post, but rather, I am up about 3 pounds. How do I account for this?

1. I posted the post, and then I didn't "really" start on the journey. I think that I rationalized that this was a one-year journey that would start when I turned 49.

2. Two weeks ago, I actually did decide to make myself more accountable, and I started tracking with SparkPeople again. I also started walking. I am currently on a 14 day walking streak (will be 15 after my walk today). I have tracked my food EVERY day.

3. It is Thanksgiving week. Although I tracked my food everyday, I have also tracked overages on my calorie count multiple times (I think three) this week.

It's hard to be starting this year with so much to lose. But what's the alternative. So many times, I think back to the times when I was a SparkPeople poster-child, a 5k runner, a marathon finisher. But every day is a new day, and my day today is a celebration of having lived 49 years and yet another new start on the journey toward better health and a slimmer waistline.

I am exhausted of having weight loss be a part of my identity. But each day is its own. I will post new strategies separately. Or on the message boards.
