Getting By with a Little Help from My Friends

[Background music for today's blog!] emoticon

This is my first weekend back to sanity and I am hoping that you all will help me. You see, around here, weekends are eating out time.Weather permitting, we will be going out for dinner tonight, and Sunday night. Normally, we would also be going out on Saturday night, but the grandson is bringing his parents over to help with the Christmas decorating, so I will be cooking dinner for us all.

Weekends mean it will be a bit difficult to find time to exercise and Spark, too.

So here is my request for you all:

Tell me you best tip for surviving dinners out, or busy weekends, or no time for exercise.

Give me the tools to stick with my simple plan of eating sanely and exercising.

I would do it for you!

Definitely get the exercise in by keeping up with your grandson. Just moving around with him and playing will up your exercise and fitness level to burn those calories. Reach a little higher, squat down to him a few more times..... get it? Make exercise routine. This past week I decided to carry two heavy bags from a store to the car forgetting the car was parked quite a way down. Well, the bags became weights and I got in a full bicep curls workout before I got to the car! When you are going out to eat check their menu out online first. You can find out all the nutritional info you need. It really helps.

Play with the grandson - I mean get with his program, play catch, crawl around on the floor playing cars, etc. Don't worry about what it looks like, just do what you can. Any movement out of the ordinary is burning up extra calories, so even if you aren't doing a regular exercise program, just keep moving as much as you can. (You can even do some of your chair exercises while waiting for your dinner to arrive.)

Cooking at home? Do some upper body weight exercises with cans of food or jugs of milk... 10-15 reps of curls or shoulder presses take hardly any time at all.

Prioritize food choices: plenty of protein, lots of non-starchy veggies, healthy fats + a good deal of water and/or green tea.
If you consider that you can eat an unlimited amount of non-starch veggies, you can fill up on that. Proteins & fats really help w/ satiety.
(Sometimes the appetizers are NOT good choices?!)
    * Pay attention to your own personal hunger clues...not just mindless eating.
See if you can add in some extra movement / walking.
