Get out of the Fog

Friday, January 27, 2017

Have you ever felt like your life has been in a fog so thick that not only is breathing hard but so is seeing where your feet step? I know that feeling well. Why do people find their way to health and happiness only to let it slip away time and time again? Do we think we have that much time to waste or is it that we are as unfocused as a mole running through a tunnel in the ground? Perhaps it is both. We scurry through life thinking that Tuesday night's TV show is so important that we simply must watch it or our very happiness is at stake. Instead, we should be thinking how our bodies are feeling at what our bodies need. Better yet we should be pondering how we should improve upon our very minds and bodies with everything that is beneficial like meditation and highly nutritious food alongside [movement].

Is that TV show worth losing our health for? I think not. But we are foolish people who find it much easier to curl up on the couch or in that big comfy chair and glue our eyes to a screen of pixels and eat the bowl of ice cream or chips and dip. It is very comforting to do the later if we are stress and boredom eaters, which I admit that I am. If you are like me you are so stressed from everyday events that not much seems relevant above and beyond that worrisome thought algorithm that haunts our very essence.

However, I remind myself that it takes exactly 21 days to create a good habit. Yes, that is a fact; just 21 days and you can form a good and healthy habit of eating properly and fitting in an exercise program. Just fitting in as little as 20 minutes per day is better than what you've done before. Do that for 21 days and guess what? You have a good habit formed and you can then increase it from 20 minutes to 30. Believe me, I've done it.

Yes, I've seen and felt the wonderful benefits of healthy living. How could I have let it slip away? Life got in the way and I slipped backward. I can tell you this, though, I didn't lose all of my good habits. I only gained back the worst of the bad habits and then, of course, menopause happened. Yep, now it's harder than ever to lose this weight. No worries. I'm back on track. It's going to take about a year and a half to achieve the weight loss but I have the time; at least let's hope I do.

I'll end this little blog with the common phrase "We can do this!"
