Food Won't Fix What Life Throws At Me

Thursday, March 29, 2018

So.. In my last blog I told you I was expecting to post another gain.
Well, surprise.. I had a 1.2 LOSS, which with all my ups and downs in March made me even Steven for March.

I am NOT counting this 1.2 loss in the 10 lbs weight loss goal I set for June 26. I need an additional 10. I will see how I feel at this weight. The last time I was down that low my DR wanted to give a note for WW as he felt I did not need to lose another 10-12 lbs to get to the top of the WW range, He felt that was too low for me.
I did not take it as I felt at the time I could go lower. But instead, I slowly put back on 20 lbs. 10 of that is now gone so on to the the other 10. I will regroup at that point. ( I actually have an appointment for annual check up May 1, so we shall see)

Life throws obstacle at us , it is how we deal with them.

Tuesday afternoon the townhouse my son has rented for 5 yrs burned down. He lost all but the clothes on his back. Luckily his daughter and son were at school and daycare and they still have plenty of clothing and toys at their Mom's house. We told them last night what happened and just kept telling them it's "just stuff"... we can buy new stuff. It is not real to them yet... The almost 9 yr old asked to see and he said no. He may at some point show them a picture but not take them to the house.
The Red Cross was right there and gave him (and his neighbors who's house was also damaged) a nice gift card to buy some clothing and toiletries . He hit up Kohl's a mile up the road so has some things to wear for the moment but all his belongings don't even fill a suitcase at this point. (This is my kid who wears J CREW and Banana Republic , so all those beautiful clothes are a gone)

His renters ins co advanced him some money and got him a 2 bedroom suite with full kitchen and living room for 3 months while he figures out next step.

Yesterday was supposed to be a happy day as the car I ordered at the end of Oct finally came in.
I stopped by my son's house on my way and just sat there and cried. I saw some of the kids clothing and toys just piled up outside where the firemen has tossed them out the window .

By the time I was done at the dealership I was cranky. (Car dealerships have that affect on me, LOL) Self sabotage came in.. cranky and feeling overwhelmed I ate a chocolate croissant .

After my French class I went out to dinner at Chili's with son and his kids. I did order off the Light menu and had no dessert but did pick at the chips.

Today is lunch and playing Canasta at a friends house. She is also a WW so I assume I will have no hurdles to leap over today unless I put them there myself.

Next week brings Easter Brunch at a restaurant and the following Sat dinner out with my siblings. Planning, Planing, Planning.... Here's to making good choices and not letting my emotions sway me from my path as food is never the answer .

I'll spare you the photo of the house but here is a picture of my new car!

I Join in with others in saying it will be better days ahead and I wish the best for you and for recovery for your family and the children. ... ( My husband told me of the time when he was a child the floods came in their house was washed away like we have seen in the awful pictures on TV). They lost literally everything. Children are remarkably resilient and I do believe they will be okay. ( By the way I do like your car)...😅.... Good job on the weight-loss you got in just keep your focus on the things that are good. I am pulling for you! ... emoticon

How devastating for your son and yet how blessed no one was hurt.

Hugs and prayers going out to all of you.

I am thrilled for your success in March-- you are getting groove back & even that Otis knows it!

Love the car--hate the buying process.

Daily struggles sure do come up. We all have them from time to time. I am so sorry your son had t go thru this. It is something no one could have controlled and I am glad you are working on dealing with the sad feels this gives you. Our children are always on our minds (no matter what the age) and we all want the best for them. Being healthier is certainly a good way to make sure you are around to support them and help them. WTG

I haven't been around here lately, and you were the first person I looked up. I am so very sorry for your son's situation. I feel for all concerned, including you. I'm proud of you for realizing you might turn to food for omfort. Kudos for avoiding that pitfall. You did very well! Hubby & I are trying to wait 8 more months before we buy a new car, but we both have the new car bug. Love the chrome trim on your windows. Looks great! Hey, it sounds like you've had wonderful weight loss since last we connected. What's your secret weapon?
