Peeking In

Monday, April 16, 2018

To say the last few months have been a backslide would be an understatement. I'm poking around. Making no commitments. Figuring out what, exactly, I need for ME. I've reached out to a few of you, and thank you for your inputs.

Yesterday was the first day I was within my designated calorie range in a very long time. I woke up this morning thinking "I DID IT!" versus "oh for crying out loud I blew it AGAIN." That was a good feeling.

Our new rescue kitty had a very difficult life. A feral cat, who was abused and adopted, then thrown back out to a feral colony. We know a lot about her first adopter because the shelter knew him. The woman who had originally rescued her was moving out of state and took a little "victory tour" to gaze at all the feral colonies she had helped. Found our poor girl in below freezing weather, more messed up than the first time. She spent 2 years in the shelter, afraid.

We've had her a little over 3 months now. She refused to come out of her "safe room" for 2 of those months even if we left the door open. She hissed when frightened, but never scratched or bit. She is such a good girl. She has realized that Family Time on the couch is "safe." She eagerly waits on the couch for us to come snuggle in the evening before bed. She is still shy if we approach her in other areas of the house. But improving every day.

I've also been crafting. This is a photo of an afghan I made my sister.

I hope all of you are well.

My cat was abandoned by his first owners and a neighbor started feeding him, but left him outside, and it was all very damaging to him. He's what's called "semi-feral." He's mellowed out a bit, but I still frequently get bit, because I'm the one that will pack him in the house when he's been out too long or give him a flea treatment. So I get the worst! I try to give him his space. Kudos to you for taking a chance on that kitty!

Beautiful colors in that afghan! So pretty! I'm glad to hear that you had a good calorie day! emoticon

Hi Dawn: emoticon I love the aphgan it is very pretty the colors are beautiful. I am allergic to animals, cats seem worse than dogs. I took care of new born kittens and Mom because she had them in my landlords garage when I backed into the door before they got it fixed. I loved it, but she wouldn't let me keep even one. In fact she wanted me to take them to the park pond and drown them. I am a dog person but I fell in love with the Mom and the kittens. My niece finally took them when they were about 6 weeks and when they were ready gave them away. She kept the Mom and one baby, Jack. He was the crazy one. He would run up my arm and lay on my neck, I would put him back on the ground, he would climb right back up. My niece had to put him to sleep last summer, mouth cancer, and to the day he died, he loved sitting on people's neck. Go figure. I would itch and break out in hive, sneeze, watery eyes, I didn't care. i loved those kittens. I cried when I took them to my niece. I knew she loved animals and would take good care of them and make sure they had good homes. She actually interviewed the people who took them.

Beautiful afghan. You are so talented.
Kitty is fortunate to have you. She is making progress at her own pace.
I know that feeling of letting myself down. Many times it's not as bad as I think it is, once I log everything in the nutrition tracker, even when it included unhealthy food. I am on a roll right now (2 weeks) and was so excited to see the scale move this morning. I've been feeling the change in how my clothes fit. Small changes. Love having Spark where we can do our little celebration dance or talk about how we are doing with others who understand.

Just seeing this! Glad to see you posting! Welcome back! Beautiful afghan! Had no idea you were so crafty! How lovely you adopted a kitty and you have so much empathy. I was sort of forced into a temporary adoption in college when a roommate brought home a feral kitten found in the road. (I am very allergic and more of a dog person). She didn't actually take care of it though, so I took it to the vet, got it food, etc. It was my best friend whenever hungry, but once fed, the kitten went back to hiding, hissing, etc. I did enjoy those moments before I put out food when the little guy was so affectionate and chatty, but the allergy misery even with medicine became too much. Was so relieved when roommate got her mom to adopt the litten. I do wonder how things worked out. ETA...that was decades ago..eek. Not sure why I am musing on and on. You must think I am nuts between this and the LONG Scandal post. LOL!

So good to see you Dawn. Yep, you are right. YOU need to figure out what to do, and how to do it, for YOU. We'll be here if you need us. SP is great that way, you know?

The last 10 cats we've had over the last 35 years have all been rescue kitties. We are currently mom and dad to a brother and sister, Bailey and Hailey, who are part Maine Coon. Big kitties lol!! Hailey is sweet and very trusting. Bailey startles easily, and still doesn't recognize his tail as part of HIM!! Hysterical!! Yes, he chases it! You will love your new fur baby!!

Love the Afghan!! I've recently joined a knitting circle; lots of fun!

Here's to figuring out what you need to get to where you want to be. It's wonderful to hear about your new kitty and the inroads you've been able to negotiate with her. Your handwork on the afghan is beautiful.

I was so happy when I saw your post pop up on my feed.
