Life never stops in NYC... + a Fitbit!

Sunday, June 17, 2018

It's been quite busy this past month and a half, clearly! Ever since I moved to New York almost three years ago, I swear life has been a whirlwind. I'm glad I slowly graduated by leaving Florida for college to Boston, to LA (which honestly was regressing in that case lol) and then to NYC because this is no walk in the park all the time. Don't get me wrong - I actually love it here and it's turned into a Stockholm Syndrome of sorts because I've grown to enjoy the abuse of this place lmao. But I've had to make a point to be more deliberate with my me time, which to me would include blogging! I've recently gotten back into somewhat of an exercise routine, but work has been kicking my a**. Actually, between the last time I wrote and now, I have been working constantly. Not mad at it, money is nice but nothing can replace a nice break. Which is why I spent the past few days in Miami by myself! It was great, I felt awesome and it motivated me for my return - in my mind, if I get this type of positive reinforcement as I am now, it's going to get even better as I continue my healthy journey! I just want to LOOK healthy, in all aspects of the sense; that's everything from clear, bright skin, toned body parts lol and thick, healthy hair! All of it.

I have noticed my grocery list is finally fully healthy, and I'm proud of myself for being able to shop like an ADULT now lol. I didn't grow up with healthy eating habits, and even during my last weight loss stint where I felt I did very well (60 lbs isn't so shabby) I still didn't have the nutrients portion down. I was very calorie focused, and I still use that as a parameter to keep me in check portion wise, but as far as what I'm eating, I've become more discerning and also adventurous with the produce! This week, I stumbled upon some guava at the grocery store, and I also realized I'd never seen it in real life lmao. I was curious! So I picked some up for a snack and for my smoothies, and it was pretty good, but I was more interested in all the health benefits. I was kinda shocked! On the hunt for guava seed oil now...you can read about the health benefits of guava here! bit.ly/2EDQdcI It's seriously good for like...everything lol. Guava: the unsung hero! Anyway, I'm also working on buying less meat with my shopping trips. I always keep some skinless chicken thighs on deck cause thighs are delicious and honestly, breast gets boring to me and that's not what it's about! But I've added vegetarian burger patties into my grocery list and lemme tell you...BANGIN! The brand I've tried (and got lucky the first time with, thankfully lol I hate wasting money on things I won't eat) was Dr. Praeger's. SO. GOOD. Highly recommend using as a substitute for protein for most dishes where I would say chicken would be. I don't think you should eat it expecting burger type realness, but they do a pretty darn good job of making a decent meatless patty. I've added a patty to a salad, or even eaten it with sweet potato and broccoli as if it were the protein. Reducing my meat intake is another way I'm working on getting healthier and keeping too many hormones out of my body (literally who am I lmaooo). I'm kind of in this mild obsession of anti-aging methods, but natural ones! And again, that includes diet and exercise. I'm turning into this holistic person I don't know lol and I invite her spirit into me. It's definitely a lifestyle change I'm happy to make and am excited to keep working at.

OH! And the most important part of this post, I got a Fitbit! My lovely bestie doesn't use hers and she sweetly gave me her Charge 2 for $20 which if you know what that is, you know it's a steal. I've been wearing it for just about three days now and I love it! Super motivational, I've been enjoying competing with it to "close the rings" on the daily goals. I can see it being an integral part of this weight loss journey, especially because counting steps isn't as easy as I thought! Lol it takes a lot to make it to 10k, so I'm happy to have a new thing to work toward daily. It does say I sleep terribly, though, lol which speaking of remaining youthful, I wanna find ways to help that naturally. One thing at a time! Healthy lifestyle could certainly contribute to more restful sleep over time, I'm sure. Will keep y'all updated as to how it's been helping me! Plus, super nice that it syncs with my MFP app, LOVE that.

We've got just under 4 months until wedding #1! I have to get fitted for the dress before the wedding, so I really hope I can squeeze this curvy body into a size 10 by like September or so! lol I'll even take right at the end of September...two weeks before the wedding emoticon just so I can be as small as possible. Very excited to keep learning and growing and focusing on myself as I work on getting in better shape. I have some other positive life changes coming my way and ones that I want to come to fruition, so please send positive energy to me and I fully accept it :)

Until next time!

PS: Shout out to Beyonce and Jay Z for dropping my new walking album!!!
