~ Update 6/18/18 ~

I began my weight loss journey in April 2018. Nutritionally, I have been following a paleo low carb woe, tweaking as needed. I walk daily from 30 - 60+ mins./day & supplement with higher intensity cardio. In April, I also started a 3 month ST program, Cathe Freidrich's STS, and I am now in week 2 of my last mesocycle, i.e., Meso 3.

I have not been perfect with my eating but I can say that even when I fell off track it was not for more than a day or 2.

I am on a mission to get out of "pre-diabetes" status which was brought on by my weight gain. I am on a mission because I do not want this to go into to full-blown Type 2 diabetes. My son was diagnosed with Type I when he was 7 years old and I don't ever want to be diagnosed with diabetes; especially when it is in "my control" NOT TO BE!

My battle has been eliminating "sugar', i.e., "sweets", and because I have a ferocious sweet tooth this has been a challenge. As most of you know, I was diagnosed with breast cancer 11+ years ago. I developed a mild case of neuropathy in my feet and hands caused by chemo treatments, which causes burning in my feet, mostly at night; I have pain medication to help with this condition so that I can sleep. This neuropathy pain feels like my feet are on fire, and at the same time I have a slight numbness in them [weird] ... same with my hands, sans the burning.

One morning when I woke up my right foot was "ON FIRE!!!!"... It gradually went away but it was awful! I was relieved but really didn't know why it happened, and I certainly didn't connect this to anything I had eaten; the night before this happened I had eaten some chocolate bars. [NOTE: ... when I would give in to my cravings for sweets I would buy 2 or 3 Ghirardelli caramel filled chocolate bars, and I would eat "ALL" of them instead of dinner.] ... I never had any reaction from eating them, other than regret emoticon!

Two weeks later I bought 3 Ghirardelli bars, ate them one evening, and the next morning I had that horrific burning pain!!!! So, it seems that eating these chocolate bars are causing this to happen!!!! ... so now I knew that this is directly related to being pre-diabetic, and it scared me straight!!!!!

June 1, 2018, I started a keto diet focusing on eating quality organic proteins, fats, fruits & veggies and absolutely "NO SWEETS"... I. AM. DONE!!!! I'm glad that I had that reaction because I would have kept on doing this and pretty much sabotaged my health/weight loss goals. I will always love sweets but now I am substituting with things like Greek yogurt and blueberries, strawberries, etc., & fat bombs that are higher in fat but low carb and sweetened with stevia or other non-caloric sweeteners.

I wanted to update everyone on how I have been doing and where I am now in my weight loss journey.

My starting weight in April 2018: 178
Current weight: June 18, 2018: 162.2!!!! [ 2lbs away my 10% weight loss goal]

... I'm on my way!!!!

    I am so very proud of you taking control of your health. It is not always easy but the alternatives (development of chronic health conditions, etc) makes us fight for ourselves.

    Congrats Beautiful!!! I like you am a sugar addict and cleaning that house gets old on a daily basis. I've learned to coexist with sugar but I have to make myself go for the healthier carbs and not the stuff that sits on my waist line. So I do understand but we are going places. I am actually up a few pounds since the update due to "stress" but I am so glad that everyone can see my progress and that I am committed to being healthier and a more controlled Dee.

    Love your goal. I was almost a diabetic and finally made it out of the prediabetic range but would like to put some more space between it and me. I love chocolate too and have to limit it. Good job on the weight loss!
