Being part of the elusive 5% that keeps their weight off IS POSSIBLE! I am proof! This is a picture of me taken November 2018, June 2013, Sept 2009, sometime in 2006. YOU CAN DO THIS!!! That 5% number is NOT TRUE. It is based on people who report to the Nation Weight Control Registry. I and many of the people I know, who have lost over 100 pounds and kept it off, HAVE NOT reported our losses to them. How many more don’t? So their numbers are probably off. I’m absolutely sure that if all of us who lose weight and keep it off would report it, the 5% would be a much higher number- meaning YOU have hope!
So next time someone tells you that only 5% of people keep their weight off, tell them not to be so negative and that many many people do not report their losses that they have kept off.
Qualifications for the registry: Must lose 30 pounds or more and keep it off for a year or more and keep reporting.
Beth, you are so inspiring... with your writing, not just your dramatic pictures! I lost 50 lbs. and have kept it off for 8 years now (not on Registry). Losing got very hard then when I got RA. Still trying but at least I have kept off the 50. Still Sparking! 956 days ago
I remember reading about the National Weight Control Registry years ago and oddly, that's been one of my "goals", to get to a place where I could report a loss after I had maintained it. As it is, I lose and then regain, nothing new there...
I thought some who read your blog might recognize themselves, and not have the website handy so they could update their information on the NWCR - Here it is:
Beth, you never mentioned this... I would assume your husband is thrilled. You keep looking prettier and prettier the longer time goes by. It is most remarkable. I am going to share this blog with someone who is starting over. 956 days ago
I didn't know that about the health registry. I wonder if that body exists in Canada where I live. Good to know that the "elusive" 5% is maybe not so elusive or impossible to be a part of! 956 days ago
Not interested in "Nation Weight Control Registry". I'm interested in the success rate right here in SP. Reading your blogs and other successful SP members has helped me more than anything else. I am encouraged every day. I love your success story. LET'S 957 days ago
Congratulations on your weight loss and on keeping it off. Thank you for a very inspirational blog. This is so much better than the naysayers who give one a defeated feeling by talking about not being able to keep it off. You are definitely an inspiration. 957 days ago
I always wondered where that absurd percentage came from - esp. that it was for only a year. I figured they just meant people gained SOME back ie: I went WAY overboard with weight loss in my early 20's, and then allowed myself to regain up to the insurance company recommended weight after a couple of years. Nothing like what you've done! Your loss is incredible, and I am very impressed. Much respect. 957 days ago
Never heard of the Nation Weight Control Registry. Another goal to add to my list! Thank you for telling your story. Always encouraging information that keeps so many of us on track! 957 days ago
