January 29th is National Puzzle Day. National Puzzle Day honors puzzles of all size, shape and form. From jigsaw puzzles to crossword puzzles to Sudoku, there are many different types of puzzles. They fit the needs of every person, and every skill level from easy to expert. Do you like to do puzzles? Why or why not? What is your favorite kind of puzzle to do, and when do you usually like to do puzzles?

While I enjoy word searches and crossword puzzles, my favorite kind is the jigsaw puzzles. I started as a child putting together the small ones made of hard cardboard. They now make them from wood. As I matured, my parents continued to up the challenge, and I moved from the simple 25 pieces to the 2000 piece puzzles. Working on a puzzle is relaxing and challenges the brain. Out of five grandchildren, only one shares my joy of sitting down for hours as we put yet another puzzle together. While January 29th is National Puzzle Day, 2018/2019 has been the year of the puzzle for us. We've had one after another going continuously since October. My husband got tired of puzzles pieces all over our kitchen island, to the point it was unusable, so he surprised us with our very own puzzle table. Ava, my granddaughter, and I have spent countless hours in deep concentration during these cold winter months working together...sometimes we work in complete silence as we concentrate to find where each piece fits in, and other times, we engage in deep conversation as we work. There's something special about spending quiet time alone with a 16 year old granddaughter. Funny how much you can learn about each other while working in silence with no other distractions.

I came across a few quotes that I found to be thought provoking. As I came across the last, I realized that one of the many reasons I enjoy putting together puzzles is because it does minimize the chaos in my life, and brings my mind and body to a complete calmness.

Quotes ~

"Every day is sort of a jigsaw puzzle. You have to make sure that you're putting the most important things first." ~ Julia Hartz

"There are no extra pieces in the universe. Everyone is here because he or she has a place to fill, and every piece must fit itself into the big jigsaw puzzle." ~ Deepak Chopra

"In the midst of movement and chaos, keep stillness inside of you." ~ Deepak Chopra
