As part of a challenge we've been asked to write a blog about why we first started and why we won't quit. So, here goes!

I guess it depends on the when. Why I started Sparkpeople back in 2010 or why I started this challenge just a few weeks ago.
When I joined Sparkpeople I weighed 205 pounds. That was the same weight I was when I was 8 months pregnant with my son. THAT was a wake up call for me. Since that time I had gotten down in the 130's! I was super happy with where I was. Then a collision of health and life problems hit and I shot back up in weight. Not to my highest, but not far at all from it.
I do believe without Sparkpeople I would probably be at my highest and just living with it in denial. Continuing to come here helps me to keep honest, to keep working towards my goals.
My weight as of today is 164.8. I'm still working to get back down to a comfortable weight for me. Joining these weight loss challenges helps me to do that! Again, it helps me to be honest with myself. I feel like with any addiction we can ignore it and pretend it's not there while it's eating away at us and our lives. My addiction is real and is something I am going to have to live with. Unfortunately it's not as simple as not having (the cigarettes) in the house. You have to have food to live. I was addicted to cigarettes years ago and yes, I still get cravings and it was hard to quit. But it is SO much easier to handle than food addiction (for ME). Food surrounds us! Especially having a family with two teen boys. It is HARD.
BUT with the help and support of Sparkpeople and my teammates in my weight loss challenge, I'm getting there. I know I will always have this battle to fight, but knowing I'm not alone in it helps tremendously!

So why you ask am I here? Why am I doing this challenge? You. YOU are the answer. You keep me going.
