I was literally a hopeless mess when I found SparkPeople and I credit God for leading me here. I had given up, you see. It was my last ditch effort, half hearted at that, to lose weight. I guess you never know which time you swing at the ball is going to be the home run- so just keep swinging the bat!

I was 460 pounds and bedridden. I had caretakers and had to be pushed in a wheelchair. It was very hard to get doctors to help me. They all wanted me to have weight loss surgery. They all thought I was in pain from just weight. When I finally got a new medical team, they found many things wrong and got me physical therapy and a walker to help me.

I started lifting shampoo bottles in bed and using an arm bike, logging it all in my SparkPeople tracker, as best I could- proud to just be doing something. I tracked my eating and started losing weight. I read on SparkPeople daily and even spoke at a convention in 2009 and later became a writer for the Daily Spark.

Later I decided to become a coach and get certified so that I could help others. I went from being totally disabled to empowering myself and others to have the lives we want to have.
NONE of this would have been possible without SPARKPEOPLE!

Here are a few things I’ve learned:

Progress not perfection.

Forgive yourself and move on.

Track.

Use small plates.

Drink your water.

Protein!

Concentrate on adding in healthy foods and worry less about deprivation.

Positive self- talk.

Can Do!


All of these things helped me a great deal on my journey. I did not arrive at these things overnight, but I think if you read enough, listen enough, it starts to come naturally what your lifestyle will be for you. Everyone has a lifestyle that fits them.
