I was 460 pounds. I offer hope to those who want to do this journey without weight loss surgery, crazy diets, extreme exercise or having to buy products every month from some multi level marketing company.
YOU can get the scale down too by being fearless. It is ok to believe in yourself again! Stop looking at the past and look at the future.
You wreck your car if you drive it while looking in the rear view mirror. You simply can’t go forward that way!
Today- start looking through the windshield of your “car”only. Stay in the present and think of each choice as a separate choice. Just because you slipped at lunch, you don’t have to slip at dinner. The second lunch is done, it’s already in the rear view mirror and you need to move on.

Thank you. Showed your pictures to my husband (425 lbs) while we're having our morning coffee. I'm so worried about him. Doctors are recommending bariatric surgery now, although I don't think he can get past the counseling and the "self" weight loss required to be a candidate. I can't get through to him. He always says, "I can't eat like you." I tell him he doesn't have to eat like me and that he can find his own way.
What an inspiration you are. I get down at times and wonder if I will ever be able to lose the weight. I need to stop obsessing over yesterday and look forward. Thanks so much for giving me the courage to try. I CAN do this. 650 days ago
Thank you so much for this inspirational story & the example of looking forward & not in the rear-view mirror. I hope many more Spark members are able to look at & read your story! 650 days ago
hello Beth in cyberworld at Spark. I missed hearing from you.
I tried to get hold of you and was unsuccessful. Now I moved 1700 mi away, but if you could help my friends daughter, that would be something. His daughter is in her 20's, so I hope she can be in a better place, than Dad that had heart attacks and several other family members that its not so good. So Dad woke up finally And hopes his daughter doesn't go in the direction of other relatives that are invalids or disabled.
I truly felt badly because of the error I made with her. I figured his daughter was male. She went by a condensed version of her name. She had very short hair, a very large shirt, that( didn't cover maybe a quarter of stomach and backside). I HOPE this doesn't sound mean. It broke my heart, as I thought about my best friend who passed ( and also lost her leg and the effects of diabetes). I had heard of these things for years, but seeing and watching it, and watching it taking out my childhood friend and her premature death, changed me forever.
You know I am grateful for what you do and am glad to hear your doing well.
A lot has happened since we talked, like my husband having a heart attack but he is coming back strong. How thankful I am for his good treatment.
Congratulations on losing your weight without surgery. I know the surgery has it's place but either way is hard and takes time. Your mind has to be in the right place as weight loss and getting healthy is a life long process. 650 days ago
Thank you. I am 66 lbs lost into an epic journey from a starting weight of 385 myself, and was feeling like falling apart today when I stumbled across this. You are an inspiration. truly. 650 days ago
Great pictures and message Beth. Do you have any pictures in a bathing suit or something that will help me to see a comparison. I was 475 when I started. 286 today. Pushing as hard as I can to meet my goal weight of 185. I am finding that some of my skin issues are not changing as I thought that they would. I expect to have hanging skin but some of what I am seeing is a bit alarming and I EXERCISE daily. Thanks for sharing if you can. 650 days ago
What an absolutely fabulous transformation!! You have every right to feel proud of your achievements and you look so much happier without that weight. Thanks for being such a great motivator! 650 days ago
EVERY time I read something from you, I am inspired. How caring you are to extend yourself to others. It is painful to look at the before pictures because I know what pain and discomfort you are in.

Beth, throughout my time with Spark you have been an inspiration for me. After a humiliating experience at the gym pool, I gave up , couldn't deal with the weight in a swimsuit. Too exposed. Too self conscious. Then I read a blog about you putting on your swimsuit and going to the pool. I felt a kinship , I said if you can over come more than I have had too, I will not quit the pool. Good I didn't , aqua workout has been my salvation and it works too. I will forever think of your fantastic accomplishments and .inspirations to many . Thank you for continuing to inspire . Spark on. I truly believe discipline and great mindset are key to be successful. Motivation is good, but some days it just isn't there so having discipline is important. Also a good support system like Sparkpeople. Love this site.
As far as surgery, it wouldn't be my choice. My sister had weight loss surgery. Lost over 100 pounds only to put it back on. She is miserable right now. There again, that is a tool, but will only work with a good mindset and discipline.
Way to go on maintenance, that is so hard. Losing weight is difficult, but I find maintenance just as difficult.
