Walking away for my mental health

Saturday, October 26, 2019

Have not been on SparkPeople for the last 6 years of working in a community services group while also spending night classes to achieve a Diploma of Human Resources, a Diploma of Accounting, and a Certificate for Training and Assessment. Two of my last 3 SparkPeople blogs reflect how happy I had been at my job when it was new.

Unfortunately my emerging business skills were not appreciated or encouraged in my job. Without getting into details, I feel there is one person in particular who has made what was once a dream job turn more into a nightmare since 2015. After numerous disagreements, an accumulated gain of 40lbs (then the more recent lost of 25lbs) plus the last 9 months of my eye twitching uncontrollably, I have given formal HR notice to take all of my leave with a resignation date at the end. Yesterday I cleaned out my desk and handed in my security card.

While I look for another job, I am volunteering for an inspiring training project that teams young dogs with young teens to help build their kindness and confidence (both in the dogs and the boys).

I asked my doctor if she could refer me to a dietitian as I want to be in control of something during this uncertain time in my life. Maybe a Spark streak will bring me positive dreams again.

It's been a while since this post, but I admire you! I know how you feel about the job. I've been there in the past and am there now. And, we both managed to gain 40 lbs in the process. I hope this finds you doing better.

Take it one day/one step at a time. I volunteer to listen if you need someone to talk to.

SPARK is all about living our healthiest life, and it sounds as if you've made a very positive step in that direction. A toxic job can do immeasurable damage. Best wishes on your continued journey. We're here to cheer you on.
