Prepping for My First 5K

The first thing you need to know about me is that I am not very athletic. Heck! I am the definition of a couch potato. I literally can sit on the couch after dinner and work on my needlework and crafts while watching TV for hours. That is not very healthy.
I have started getting some exercise at work. We have a gym and I have been using it for the treadmill and upper body weight training (don't get excited...it's just dumbbells) but I know that it is time to increase my levels and improve my physical self.
Enter my first 5K in May. This will give me two and a half months to build up my stamina. I know that I can finish but 3 miles right now, but it will leave me pretty wiped out. I CAN do it, but I don't do it very often, and here's the thing......my goal is to do it in under 60 minutes. That's currently above my threshold.
So here is what I am going to do. First I am going to work on duration. I currently do 1 mile on the treadmill 3 times a week. I am going to up that by a quarter mile a week. If I keep to the schedule, I should have two weeks to become comfortable at 3 miles before the race to pick up the pace.
Wish me luck!
