Behold the Pummelo!
Saturday, January 02, 2021
Yesterday’s trip to town I decided to grab some fruit and a bit of other groceries. I grabbed a bunch of citrus because it was in really nice condition this time of year. I picked up a bag of organic navel oranges, organic manderines and 2 bags of organic tangelos. My youngest stopped liking organges awhile ago. But after the Misfits Market box I received with large navel oranges, she has changed her mind. She really liked them. I showed her why they are called navel oranges, because they have an opening on the bottom that is like a belly button or navel. So while at the store she saw some that were navel oranges by looking at the bottom and asking if we could get some. Woo hoo, score one for fruit knowledge!
I also picked up a pummelo, or pomelo. I usually buy 1 each year when they are in season and at the stores. Just one because they are almost $3 each around here. They are large and heavy, like we tossed it around like a medicine ball a few times.
Just for fun.
Pummelo, grapefruit, satsuma
There is a large peel around them, lots of fluff.
They taste like a grapefruit and orange combined, like a grapefruit without all the bitterness and slightly sweeter.
Hope everyone is having a fantastic start to the new year!
