friend shaming ....is that friendly??

Sunday, April 04, 2021

A friend of mine posted a recipe of sorts of baked pineapple drizzled with a little spoon of honey for flavor as a snack.
A friend of hers commented about how high the carbs would be and that she was supposed to be doing low carb. This other person went on to brag about the weight she has lost and how the friend was falling behind.
Is this motivation??
Is this encouragement?
Body shaming, food shaming, shaming someone for whatever reason equals getting results????
Mostly it makes the person feel so bad about themselves they end up failing because they feel like they already have.
I have nothing against keto, I did it myself for awhile....but I love oranges and milk so it didnt last.
Low carb I still practice as much as possible.
But I found that keto was too restrictive.
I am NOT shaming anyone who does keto. It is a great plan if you want to go that way.
Personally I love a couple of pineapple chunks in my salad.
It is what it is whatever you want to make it.....
But make it about YOUR health and happiness....not to be better or stronger or more committed than someone else.
At the moment, my biggest issue is lowering my cholesterol which is higher than it should be and I do NOT want to go on a statin.
So this is my focus for now.
Eating foods that will not contribute to my cholesterol rising, reducing stress, adding exercise and trying to just enjoy life without the shaming of others who must not be enjoying theirs enough.
Happy Easter.

Well said. It is YOUR journey and you should make it about you. I know there are many people in our world with their own issues and ways of dealing with them and they sometimes mean well and some times are being mean. I try to see the good in them for we are all made the same. I struggle with trying to be supportive here and i still get flack some times. Keep sparking !

People think they are helping? But in reality they are very hurtful. Thank you for this very important blog.

If you truly want to lower cholesterol track only saturated fats and keep them like under 10. All other fats don’t matter. My doctor had me do this and dropped cholesterol 60 points in 3 months.

    Happy Easter!

I could not believe the comments on a friend’s Facebook post - she was hospitalized last week with a bleeding ulcer, had to receive 2 units of blood etc etc. Some of them were incredulous that red wine and Advil could do such damage - are you calling her a liar??!!??
And of course there was one who claimed it was her “dirty keto” diet which almost killed her - wow!

Exactly, This is about yourself, your health, what YOU choose as your menu, put into your body, do for your body.

I, too need to lower my cholesterol!! After Easter menu, sister likes traditional ham, my plan for myself is
Eating Plant Based. Easy way is to Meal Prep, Lentils, with vegetable broth, and water, add spice of choice, cumin 1 tsp, raw carrots, celery.
    I receive Plant-based e-mail newsletter from T. Collins.
Have you read “ Forks Over Knives” book, also a magazine, can check-out from library digitally, on-line.
