Time Flies!

Wow, time just seems to be flying by. My daughter came out for a visit at the end of March. It feels like just yesterday that we were driving with the top down and hitting all the beaches! *sigh*. Her twin sister is moving here permanently in June.

I did a five minute Denise Austin workout this morning. If you’ve been on the weight loss / fitness journey as long as I have, you might’ve heard of her. I feel like she’s been around nearly as long as Richard Simmons. Her lifestyle is a testament to her look. I swear, she hasn’t changed in the 30 years since I discovered her! Anyway, she has a free challenge and offers lots of free workouts on her blog, deniseaustin.com, so I thought I’d share with you. She’s peppy and encouraging like Leslie Sansonne.

Below is my April review and May look ahead.

My focus in April was on my spousal relationship, leaving no question that I cherish my honey. I focused on his love languages. Progress was made, including where I need to adjust. This goal is definitely worth rolling into May. It’s liberating to know and accept that big goals will never fully be attained. You just keep practicing and fine tuning.

My self care was also top of mind in April. I did fairly well and maintained my weight, but I do need to better manage my work life balance. I prefer a 7 - 3:30 schedule, but the team I work with tends to start as late as 9 am. Wow! That’s two productive hours slashed! I loathe the idea to backload the day and work until 5:30. Some of the people I support have had 6-7 pm calls. Yuck! Sorry, but the work is not that critical.

May Goals
1. Continue Operation Love Bone. (Goals are more fun when you inject some humor emoticon) Bring more kind words to bear.
2. Work life balance. Pencils down by 4 pm, take daily walks.
3. Self care - daily intentional movement, supplements, protein and produce.

Part of me says these are too vague. History tells me specificity typically backfires. When I do my daily journal, I can be more specific about how I’ll address each of these life investments.

I would like to challenge myself with one thing I’m unable to do today that I’d like to be able to do by June 1st. A Facebook acquaintance just posted her April accomplishment video: an unassisted pull-up. Wow, what an inspiration! What goals are you setting in May?

    It’s good that you know what kind of goals work best for you 😊 I need the specific ones, or I end up getting distracted or discouraged. I’m hoping to stretch my longest walking/running distance to 6 miles in May!
