May 5, 2021 NO NEED TO SHOUT

Although we don’t like to shout or hear shouting, there are times when we have to shout. If someone is out of earshot, then we have to raise our voices so they can hear us. Then there are those who are hard of hearing so we have to shout a little so they can hear. But if someone is near us, then there is no need to shout. We can talk normally and if they are really close, we can even whisper and they will hear us.

God speaks to us through His word. However, He also speaks to us in other ways like through His Holy Spirit. Sometimes He speaks to us in a whisper. Sometimes He speaks in a shout. If we are close enough to Him, He will whisper because there is no need to shout. However, if we have moved away from God, He will shout. He will shout so that we can hear Him and remember to draw close to Him again. Does God have to shout to get our attention? Or are we close enough that He only has to whisper?

James 4:8 “Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.” (NLT)

1. Write what you do to stay close to God.
2. List how you can remember to remain near Him.
3. Thank God for the many ways He communicates to you.
4. Help others by pointing them to the words of God.

Dear Lord, we want to always hear You. Whether You whisper or whether You shout, we want to be able to recognize Your voice and know Your message is what we need to hear. Help us to understand what You say to us and stay close to You so we are following Your will and building a special relationship with You. The more we know You, the more we will know Your voice. Thank You for speaking to us in the many ways you communicate. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

1 Kings 19:12 “And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper.” (NLT)

Revelation 10:3 “And he gave a great shout like the roar of a lion. And when he shouted, the seven thunders answered.” (NLT)

Psalm 47:5 “God has ascended with a mighty shout. The Lord has ascended with trumpets blaring.” (NLT)
