Tentative Sewing Curriculum...
Sunday, May 09, 2021
The internet is full of sewing class descriptions.... some are free, and some charge for lessons... but there are a LOT of suggestions for what beginner sew-ers should begin with...
I will, of course, ask my friends who want me to teach them how to sew, WHAT they are interested in learning, but right now I think I want them to learn:
How to sew a straight seam
How to sew a curved seam
How to thread the sewing machine (including bobbins)
How to do simple alterations (repair a loose button, take up a hem)
That doesn’t seem too daunting, does it?
The projects I’m leaning toward are:
A simple pillowcase...
a zipper pouch,
a zipper pouch that can stand up by itself
maybe a zipper pouch that is an atypical shape
Some kind of apron..... either very, very simple
Or gathered onto a waistband ...
These can be embellished for more skills, but entirely useful.... I hear aprons are making a Comeback!
By then my students should be totally sick of me!
What do you think?
