BBQ yesterday went well

Sunday, May 16, 2021

good morning - watching the recording of Preakness - I did not get a chance to watch it yesterday due to a family BBQ. The weather held and the kids enjoyed the pool, yard games, and just great talk. My DD and SIL actually put away their phones and we had great conversations. DD and I had a long talk about how isolation has affected the family. They are building an office in their house b/c my SIL is now working at home permanently. She said my husband was always around. I was not used to that. I said me, too. I said it took your dad a year to get adjusted to retirement and then combined it with isolation of COVID. We had some tough times with his adjustment, but we survived. DH lost 50 lbs during the isolation. I was just trying to manage the situation. Your Dad was not prepared for the lack of work. Many times he seemed lost. That is why I got him into the train layout. Swimming was a God sent for him. He did not like other exercises. I like TM, free weights, and yoga. emoticon Yesterday, I knew this would happen. DH loves to socialize but has a hard time managing socializing with eating and drinking. He went overboard big time. I did not. I actually lost a little again. I just said to him yesterday. You have to take ownership of the amount you are eating and drinking. He says to me I will lose it quickly. To me, that would never work. This is a philosophy he has every time we socialize. I have to let go b/c I think moderation is the key. Dh did a fabulous job of doing all the grilling. I had a wonderful talk with my DD. Next month we are going to have my Grandkids over for a sleepover for the weekend. Great first BBQ since COVID isolation. emoticon emoticon

It sounds like a family party weekend for us both. And congratulations to your DH for losing so much weight. I hear ya about the retirement adjustment. whooee. It took us a lot longer than 1 year - but we did make it and now - I wouldn't go back for a king's ransom. Thanks for stopping by the birthday blog and sprinkling a little bloglove on it
