A dream come true.

Sunday, May 23, 2021

I spent this weekend outside, working on our yard. Moving logs, carrying branches, hauling wheelbarrows full of garden soil, carrying boards, finding tools, and when I wasn't doing all that I was mowing the lawn in several different areas because I kept changing my mind as to where I wanted my first garden bed in this new home.

I am exhausted but so incredibly happy. We haven't had the opportunity to own our own place since 2008. Following jobs around the state of Maine and then to North Carolina wasn't the best place to be in to buy a home. We have been in our new home since August 2020 and I love it more every day.

I have my first raised bed. it has taken us all weekend long but is built, leveled and it is almost filled with garden soil, and I can't wait for it to settle a bit so I can plant in it.

I am planning to build a food forest here in our front yard. We live at the end of a gravel road surrounded by trees and mountains. My neighbors won't care if I don't have a manicured green lawn. I will be putting in fruit trees this fall, and probably getting some baby chicks around the same time. I am so very excited to have a little piece of earth we can nurture.

Sometimes a dream can feel so out of reach. I have been dreaming of owning our own home again since August 2008 and some years it felt like it would never happen. But we kept working towards it and now 13 years later we are putting in our first beds.

Don't give up on your dreams. Don't let anyone tell you it's impossible or you are too old, or its silly, it's never too late to follow them. Just take one little step towards your goal and keep on moving towards it till you reach it.

Much love to you,

OH Gina, I am so beyond happy for you!! As I read this blog and thought of the FUN you having and got near the bottom about the neighbors not caring since you are at the end,,, I SMILED SO MUCH!! That's so BEAUTIFUL!! Actually I expect many times the end of the street SHOULD be more of nature, and yours WILL BE!!!

Awww you were in my neck of the woods, perhaps literally depending on where you lived in Maine. I am in the Greater Portland area. It's so pretty but still a city, and yet, not to bad and so easy to be in nature. I'm in nature. But there's NOTHING like owning your own home and making it as you want it. CONGRATS BIG TIME!!

Gina, so delighted to know that your dreams are opening up for you. Tis a wonderful yet at times exhausting life..but you hung in there and now can work to make your home exactly as you want it to be. I love the idea of a "productive" front yard!! emoticon
