I fell yesterday.

Saturday, May 29, 2021

Requesting prayer for my left leg. I took our dog, Bayou, for a walk yesterday and she headed off the paved road we were walking on. Here in our neck of the woods in Kentucky, when there is a lot of rain, low places fill with water. I took a fall onto a grassy place filled with water and landed on my right side. A woman saw me go down and backed her car up to ask me if I was hurt. I wasn't, but I could not get onto my back or push myself into a sitting position. Bayou started guarding me and growled at the woman.

The woman called her daughter which she said was sort of a "dog whisperer." She showed up in no time and a man in a Wonder (bread) truck stopped and asked if we needed help. The first woman warned him about Bayou growling. She decided to call 911 to come and help me. By the time the ambulance arrived, I was up and walking back toward the house.
I told the woman referred to as the "dog whisperer" to take Bayou's leash and give it a hard tug so that Bayou would know she was under the control of another person, instead of me. She didn't pull very hard, but Bayou went away from me and onto the pavement and the first woman and the young man driving the Wonder truck were able to pull me up to where I could sit and then with another pulling session to where I could stand up. The ambulance hadn't arrived yet and I was completely soaked from lying in the water.

I came home and showered and went to our Friday evening Bible study. Today, I feel stiff and did not sleep, but stayed in bed all night hoping sleep would come.

The woman that was first on the scene told me I should get rid of Bayou. Bayou doesn't bark unless she is playing and you take her toy and don't give it back to her. I have to say, I was proud of her guarding me while I was incapacitated by the fall. I do request prayer. This is my second fall since moving to Kentucky. As I age, mobility is a key concern of mine. I have been having a burning/aching sensation in my left leg for weeks. I felt like I needed to walk to keep the leg from having more problems. My husband generally walks Bayou daily, but he was not here.

You have my prayers for sure. AND glad that Bayou was a guard dog for you.

Sounds like it may be a good idea to see your PCP and maybe get some PT to work on balance. That's one of the things DH has been working on. It has made a huge difference in his mobility (he's 69).

Prayers and good luck! Be safe.
