Why do people like a smart TV?

Saturday, June 05, 2021

My TV is broken. It is huge. So we are looking to get a new TV. Two TVs were here when we moved into this condo. I did not buy them myself.

I got a dumb tv as it was cheaper, but then bought a Roku and it made it a "smart tv.". Some apps are free like "Pluto" which has some live tv channels. Just download the app, sign up, and watch. You need an internet connection to watch the TV.

I also like "Tubi" for free movies.

I pay for Netflix, Paramount +, and Britbox, but the monthly fees are pretty cheap. I like Paramount as it gives me my local CBS channel.

I've had good luck with the LG tv brand. Check out Costco. They have pretty good prices on TVs.

If you get a "smart" tv then you don't need a Roku.

I have a 22 inch in my bedroom, and a 32 inch in the main tv room. I like to sit then on a sturdy piece of furniture and those sizes work well for me.

I personally don't want my TV connected to the world beyond my home. If there is a way, hackers will find their way in. I don't have Alexa, Ring doorbell a smart refrigerator or anything else connected to the internet. I only use wi-fi on my laptop and phone and keep nothing of importance on either of them!

We recently purchased a new tv, NOT a smart tv, on purpose. We did buy a "smart" one, but brought it back! Too complicated for my DH and I to use! emoticon

It will take more than an installer whipping through a remote tutorial to understand how to use a smart TV.

I bought a television recently from Costco, Samsung smart television. With a smart TV, you can record and watch later; hook up your computer wirelessly; mini come with programs already installed. But I mostly use mine for watching television and Netflix. It is much bigger than my prior television and I like the larger size.
