The Miles, The Smiles

My friend and I had breakfast at her home in College Station, TX, and then we set out on an expedition, traversing the way, WAY backroads of Texas toward Brenham, which would be spectacular in bluebonnet season (but this isn’t it)….
We checked out an antique rose emporium, and I bought some pots of Angelonia, sometimes called Summer Snapdragon, and proceeded to some other historic Texas spots way out in practically the middle of nowhere, like Independence, Texas, which used to be a thriving metropolis, one of the biggest in Texas, until their town fathers denied the railroad access (too much pollution of their town’s virtue, I’m thinking) and the town started its decline from that moment on.
Oh, yes, we had lunch in Hempstead, TX and visited a farmer’s market, where I drooled over the freshly shelled pinto beans….. NOT DRIED, but fresh pinto beans! I could kick myself for not getting some! I’ve heard that there is a farmer’s market in Von Ormy, south of San Antonio, much closer to where I live, where you can find them, but have never made that trip…. Maybe now I will!
Anyway we wound up back in College Station and had Naan and Baba Ganoush for dinner.
We did other stuff, too, but I’m tired!
I’m heading for bed…
One day at a time!
