June 17, 2021 OUR TIME MATTERS
There is a lot of talk about what matters in this life and we all have our own opinions. In fact, sometimes the talk gets rather heated. What matters most to us is personal. It is due to how we were raised and the experiences we have had over time. It is due to the choices we made spending time doing various things with a variety of people. We could even say we spend a lot of time on what matters to us most.
There are many ways we spend our time. There are some things we are sure to do every day. Some of us may work out. Others read. There are also those who take time every day to call a friend, help out a neighbor or spend time with a child. What people do with their time is important to them and shows what or who they put first in their lives. However, we all should be sure we spend time with God.
Spending time with God matters. It matters in so many ways. Putting God first in our day helps us wake up with Him on our minds and hearts. We start the day with gratitude for all God has given to us asking Him for direction in our day. We can put God first in our work and other things we do during the day seeking His help to do what is right. We can put God first in the evening thanking Him for the day and praying for rest into the night. Time with God is never wasted time. When we faithfully spend time with God, we are investing in our spiritual growth and in our purpose of life.
Hebrews 12:1-2a “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.” (NLT)
1. Write what you do with your time.
2. List ways you can better spend your time.
3. Know time with God matters.
4. Plan to spend time with God throughout your day.
Dear Lord, we spend a lot of time doing useless things. We spend time watching television, staring at the computer, and putting other unnecessary things into our minds. We spend time talking about things that don’t matter. We waste a lot of energy on worldly things when we should be putting all our energy into spending time with You. We want to improve in this area, Lord. Help us to stay aware of You all day long so we can be faithful in spending time with You and doing Your will. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
Matthew 6:33 “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” (NLT)
1 Peter 2:2-3 “Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.” (NLT)
Matthew 14:23 “After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.” (NLT)
Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” (NLT)
