Day 1 - Week 2 of Training for 10K

Monday, January 21, 2008

Well I've hit week two of the 10K training.

I've upped my weights in my ST routine for my upper body and it felt pretty good.

Today I ran 3.2 miles in 35 minutes because that's the max time on the treadmill at the gym. I ran straight through for a half an hour sprinted at 6.0mph for 3 minutes then walked it off for 2. I felt the endorphins kick in about 3 minutes into the run. Although my heart doesn't feel like it's really getting a good workout. I'm going to have to balance it with some HIIT on my off run days.

Afterwards I went on the elliptical machine for an extra calorie burn for about 18 minutes... 3 of that was a pretty easy cool down.

I went to a friend's house last night and ate a lot of veggies. I've been really hungry lately and I don't really know what that's about. I bought some low carb rye bread and have been eating quite a bit of it. It's a white rye and I think it makes me bloated. I'm going to finish out the two loaves I bought and then I think i'm going to swear off bread for a while and go back to eating squash and oats for my protein.

I kind of think that the change up in diet will result in some temporary weight gain even though I'm not going over my calories. I wonder though how this all will change the shape of my body. Today I've felt more afraid of failiure than i have in a long time... even though I seem to be doing fairly consistent good training... I just wonder when I'm going to have a break through or if it's even possible.

I also slept like CRAP last night so I wonder if that's also having an effect.

I'll try to write again on Wednesday.

Congrats on your 10K training. Which plan are you following and do you have a 10K goal race scheduled?

I also wanted to welcome you to the Spark in the Dark team. It looked like you did not have a Spark page, so I wasn't able to say hello. Not sure if you are looking at our team, but we have some really good stuff happening. Runners of all ages and abilities from beginners to Boston qualifiers. Lots of us started with C25k and are not working our way up to the Marathon. Mostly we have lots of fun, informative and inspiratational teammates.

Hope you stop by and post on our weekly thread so that we can get to know you better and follow your progress.

    Good luck with your training!
