Hi I'm new to spark and I just joined this group :) I have lots of favorite horror movies but here's my list:
Tale of Two Sisters, Suicide Club, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, House of 1,000 Corpses, Devil's Rejects, Imprint, Reincarnation, The Strangers,Pet Cemetery, Nightmare on Elmstreet, Silent Hill, House on Haunted Hill, Shutter, Dumplings, and thats all I can think of for now. I really like Japanese horror too. I especially like movies that are psychological more so than the ones that are just about torturing people.

First off I have to say I feel like I'm home!! It's grreat to find a group of people that love horror as much as I do!!

Okay my all time favourite horror movie is:
Romero's original NIght of the Living Dead! As soon as I hear "They're coming to get you Barbara.." I just get the chills!! But I love all of Romero's work and I have been waiting for Survival of the Dead which ran at the Toronto Film Festival this past session but I missed it so it had better be released soon!!! I love the zombie genre in general so you can pretty much put any zombie movie into my favourites list. Resident Evil movies, 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, Doomsday, Zombieland

Others I enjoyed from my youth:
Squirm
April Fool's Day
Alien (I saw this when I was really young for the first time - like 5 - and it took me until I was in my 20s to get through it again...)
Aliens
Nightmare on Elm Street
Halloween
Sleepaway Camp
Tremors

Movies I've enjoyed more recently:
The Descent
High Tension
Jeepers Creepers
Silent Hill
Blade 3 (didn't much like the first two)
Identity (though technically not horror I think it had enough gory parts to count as such)
Saw I - VI
Cloverfield
Pandorum
My Bloody Valentine (both versions)

Some may seem less scary as an adult but when I was a kid I was terrified!! There are tonnes more but here is a list of those I could remember LOL

So thrilled to know there's plenty of other fitness and horror fans out there. I lean towards Asian horror/psychological films but will turn down no opportunity to go outside those lines - hope to get some good recommendations. Love old movies but - embarassed to say - I haven't seen many old horrors (looking to fix that this year).
A few favorites:
Zombieland
Shaun of the Dead
The Grudge / Ju-on
One Missed Call (Jap. ver.)
30 Days of Night
Kairo
Doomsday
Suicide Club
A Tale of Two Sisters
Death Trance
1408
White Noise
etc., etc., etc.

oohh I'd have to say the best I've seen so far is Stephen King's 'It'. It is consistently frightening, and as if that weren't enough it's combined with an awesome storyline unlike some other horrors.
Oh I could go on for ages about it but I don't want to bore eole with a full review!
I would definately recommend it though!

BTW, this weight loss ticker says kg, but it's actually lbs :) x

Hi, I'm new to the team. Though they aren't very scary by today's standards, I really love the old Universal films the most. Dracula, with Lugosi, Frankenstein with Karloff, Mummy with Karloff. Even enjoy into the 50s and early 60s with Price and Lorre.

I don't know if I'm just getting to jaded from age, but I haven't seen a movie that really scared me in ages. Some will make me jump, when a loud noise happens. But I mean where the atmosphere and the plot scares me.

Nevertheless, I'm still a sucker for horror films in just about any shape or form.

Once one dismisses the rest of all possible worlds,

One finds that this is the best of all possible worlds.

I'm right there with you DECAPITRON. I love Killer Klowns from Outer Space, it's such a great movie! Nightmare on Elm Street scared the crap out of me when I was younger. So much so that I would actually have nightmares about Freddy and that was just from the previews and hearing people talk about it. I didn't even watch them until I was around 18. Now they are my favorite and I have met just about everyone from the whole series including Robert Englund and Wes Craven.

I think the scariest movie I've seen has gotta be Nightmare on Elm St. 3. That scene where Freddy turns into a worm and starts eating Kristen I was only a kid, and ran out of the room screaming. I couldn't even watch the movies until years afterword. My absolute favourite would have to be tied with Killer Klowns from Outer Space and Dead-Alive, thou

The Nightmare on Elm Street movies scared the crap out of me when they were first released. I was so scared to fall asleep. Now I think they are funny!

I was so quick on the PA bashing I forgot to post my favorites!

I really go for the Splatstick kind of horror film, so Evil Dead 2 and Dead-Alive are high on my list. I love Phantasm (which is something none of my family can understand) and Romero's Dawn of the Dead.

I really love the Hannibal series.
Audition is interesting and one of my faves I think...
The Shining is always a good classic and almost anything psychological I love.
:] I'd try to keep going but I love too many movies equally. I'd always love ideas for more to see too.~

Izzybear, so glad to hear that there is someone else who disliked this movie. We have a group that goes to horror films together, and out of seven of us, no one cared for it. We couldn't believe the hype that movie got!

It does start out slow, but when you're watching it in the dark with the surround cranked up, yikes! it was so freaky

Very nice list! I'm a big fan of Japanese horror as well. Ju-on is such a great, scary movie! The sequel wasn't TOO bad, either.

Pet Semetary had me laughing so much. Kids are scary little buggers, but it's hard not to laugh at a pouting undead rugrat.

Hello all! I'm pretty new to sparkpeople and I absolutely LOVE horror movies so I guess this will be a nice fit. emoticon
Lets see, favorite horror movies. That list is rather long but I will narrow it down to the first ones that pop in my head.
*JuOn. (Nothing beats the Japanese original.)
*The Evil Dead, The Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness (Bruce Campbell and Sam Rami are awesome, nuff said.)
*Nightmare on Elm Street (One, two Freddy's coming for you...three four better lock the door, five six get a crucifix, seven eight better stay up late, nine ten never sleep again....)
*The Exorcist (Mad love for the actress who share my last name, never look at pea soup the same way)
*Psycho (Chocolate sauce anyone?)
*Pet Semetery (I always thought children were scary, this affirmed my thoughts)
*Saw (I still like the first one. The thought of having to put yourself through so much just to survive is agonizing. The sequels however are crap and have pretty much ruined it for me. They should have stopped at one and let it die.)
*Night of the Living Dead (No one does Zombies like Romero)

I guess that's a good start... thoughts, comments, questions? emoticon

Hey, im a newb.. Favorite horror films?

A Nightmare on Elm Street -the first one, mind you.. I've been a fan of Mr. Krueger's since age 4. And I'm not too happy about this remake business.. I'm sorry but Freddy played by someone other than Robert Englund is just sacrilegious. I'm sorry, that's just the way it is.

The Shining - the one directed by Kubrik, that is. I know the other version is alot more like the book, but it wasn't nearly as creepy.. Of course, the book beats both versions of the movie, hands down.

Army of Darkness - nuff sed.

Night of the Living Dead; Dawn of the Dead; Day of the Dead - the Romero versions. (but really i pretty much like any zombie movie.)

Return of the Living Dead; The Sixth Sense; Stir of Echoes; Poltergeist
A Haunting In Connecticut; The Uninvited; I AM LEGEND; Shaun of the Dead; Zombieland; 28 Days Later; The Mummy; The Happening; The Lost Boys; The Mist; The Birds; Psycho; From Dusk Till Dawn; Mirrors; The Omen; Carrie; Dead Alive; Cube;

This is pretty long list aready, and it's not even close to being finished.. so I'm just gonna cut it off here.
