I've had my sparkpeople account for I don't know how long. I have made several attempts to use it and failed. I hope the billionth time is the charm! :-) Along with being healthier and losing weight. I need to train myself to be a frugal person. Growing up,my Dad always told me I had "champagne taste, on a beer budget." As an adult I can see now, he was right... :-/ I'd like to change that.

I've been on Spark People for just over a year, and I've lost almost 70 pounds. Now I'm trying to maintain my loss, so I'm still pretty active on SP and I've been looking for new teams to join. I am not a naturally frugal person at all. I work hard, and I spend money, more than I should. I'm hoping this team will rub off on me. I do believe that after a while, our stuff owns us, rather than the other way around. The more stuff I have, the more I need to take care of it, sort it, clean it, etc. I'm making a real effort to clear out the clutter. I've donated all my too big clothes, only keeping the things I actually wear. I've cleaned out my kitchen, too, and donated a lot of kitchen pots, pans and utensils. If that is simple living, I'm all for it.

I love your quote from Ghandi. You are so right that more is less. I think too often people think that things will make them happy. I think it is fun to live a simple life. We will take the weight loss journey together!

Intro: 61 years old. Husband had open heart surgery so is off work for a while with no benefits or pay. So - frugal works for me. Have always been somewhat frugal my whole life. Must be the Dutch blood in me.

I never know what to say here. I have been with sparks off and on for a few years. I see now that I have a real need to get the weight off and keep it off. I enjoy watercolor, Native American Flute, being out in nature.
About 10 years ago we started what we call our simple life and it has been so wonderful. I am looking forward to getting to know you all.

Hello...I just found Sparks yesterday and love the fact that it is free and community based. I teach 1st grade, love to garden, sew, cook, make jewelry, make cards, do deep water aerobics. I have a wonderful partner and 3 rescued mutts. I have been FAT almost my entire life. I've always been very active and eaten healthy food. I have a knee that is giving me lots of pain and I feel like this is the time to get the weight off. I will turn 60 in December! I am hopeful that this will work for me. I could lose 100 pounds....but would be happy with any success. I look forward to Sparks positive influence on me!

Hello everyone! My name is Lorna but my friends all call me Pony. I'm 40, happily married, one teenage daughter from a previous marriage, and lots of critters.

Two years ago I lost a bit of weight on Sparkpeople (60 pounds, I went from 180 to my goal of 130, then for a while made it to 120), kept it off for over a year then had emergency gall bladder surgery and got all out of the habit of working out and eating right. So I gained some back and now I need to get rid of it. Plus I woke up one day and decided to start training to run a marathon. I don't actually want to RUN a marathon, just train for one. Don't ask me, even I don't understand how my mind works. lol.

At any rate, I'm not sure if I count under "simple living" (the less I rely on store bought items the more work i have to do around here!! hehe!) but I am seriously pursuing self sufficiency. I call myself cheap, but my MIL says I am "frugal". I raise a lot of my own food, more every year. This past year i started in goats, my first babies should be in about 4 months and then I will have milk and be able to make cheese. (THAT should be good for my weight... hehe) My goal is to someday be able to get by with NO store bought food or utilities. Next spring I will be getting chickens and mid summer I hope to set up a couple of bee hives.

Hi, Babe! emoticon
Do you like salads? Keep a big salad going in the fridge and add cooked meat, beans (like garbanzos, kidney beans, black or white beans), or tuna to it.
Cook up a big pot of beans and freeze small amounts to thaw as needed.

Hello All,
I am struggling with meeting my nutritional goals within a tight budget. I cook my meals, freeze, etc. but wow, I still can't figure out to eat healthy fresh food, meet my nutritional goals AND stay within my food budget.

I'm all ears........

Hello! I am a 23 year old "housewife" (well, I am now that I'm unemployed) with two cats, a bunny, and of course, Mr Li. I'm interested in simple living from both a financial and environmental standpoint. I joined Sparkpeople as a way to help me lose weight and get healthy without having to rely on a gym or personal trainer for accountability. In my free time, I like to knit, paint, draw, and ride my bicycle.

I'm a Christian radio station manager in Abilene, KS. Last week while surfing the net, I discovered Dr. Joel Fuhrman's website. I have watched many of his videos, read some of his free publications and am currently reading Eat to Live. Next I want to read his Eat For Health books. Thirty years ago I was a vegetarian but just avoiding meat alone does not make you healthy. I was one of those vegetarian who ate more grains and meat substitutes than vegetables. For the past two years I've been eating low carb and that worked well for a while but doesn't seem to satisfy me any longer. Eating low carb did teach me to avoid starchy foods like breads, potatoes and pasta in order to lose weight. This nutritarian plan seems like the best for me because now I'm eating nutrient dense foods (lots of dark, green leafy vegetables), avoiding high carb foods and minimizing my meat intake.

Grace and peace to you,

moonius
