Hi! I too had decided even before we had children that we would home school them when the time came. I wanted to chime in that if he feels comfortable doing so, dads make great homeschooling parents, too! I help run a group in CO and we have several dad led families :)

Welcome aboard!

I decided that I wanted to homeschool my kids before they were even old enough for kindergarden so I did a lot of research online about groups in my area, homeschool laws in my state, etc.

I read lots of homeschool books (got them at the library), and generally just tried to educate myself before they were school age. Of course I had to discuss this with my husband and get him on board and he was mostly afraid of the money issue.

I told him that I was Mrs. Frugal and had full confidence that I could swing it and actually save us money by me not working. Think of the extra gas, lunches, clothes, etc. that you spend before getting a paycheck.

We eat 98% of our meals either at home or packed lunches if we go somewhere, I use coupons at the grocery store (usually double coupon stores), we shop at thrift stores and find awesome deals there, etc.

My husband doesn't make a lot but we managed to pay off our house last year on one income. I'm not bragging, just saying it can be done if the person staying at home is willing to work hard at saving money.

Although there aren't that many in my area, I used to be in a group that had a dad homeschooling his son and it was cool to get his prospective.

Hi! I hope you try it. I was very reluctant at first, but as I was unhappy with the private schools, I felt I had no other option.
Money can be a challenge, however, a man can teach his children just as well and in my home school group, we have a few men who do just that! Could that be an option.

Best of luck in your decision.

Hi all. My name is Kristy. I have been married for almost a year now. We don't have children yet but we are talking about it. :) So, why are you here, you ask? Well, I really hope to be able to homeschool any children we are blessed with & could use any & all advice & knowledge in this. My husband would also like for us to homeschool but I make quite a bit more money than he does & the financial loss does make him nervous. Anyway, hi!
