Did my first training interval today in preparation for the Akiba-Schechter Shuffle on 4/29. Felt good...at the time. Of all the aches and pains I thought I might get as a rookie runner, a sharp pain in the right butt cheek was not one of them! Oh, well. Doing the hip and glute hug and the hip and glute stretch suggested by Coach Nicole, and I'll ice it later if it still bothers me.

Ok, I signed up with this team kind of spur of the moment. i saw someone in my friends list was part of this group and decided to check it out.
I've been working out for over a year, but running was NEVER my strong point.
I checkout out the program and I guess it made me feel "hey I might be able to do this!"

So here I am! adding yet another activity to my list!

I have been wanting to become a running for a while...while attending the SparkPeople Live! meetings so many were talking about running a 5K so I decided now is my time to give it a try. I do not know if it will take me longer than 8 weeks to be ready to run a 5K. I do know my first 5K will be a virtual race to make sure I can do it without the crowds all around me. I do TurboFire and Jillian Michaels so I am sure I can do a 5K. Any suggestions anyone could give me about running i would really appreciate it!!

Hello! My name is Kristy. I'm a 31 year old wife, mother, environmental educator and admissions assistant at a Botanical Garden. In 2007-2008 I was a part of Sparkpeople and started to train to run. Then I got married, moved multiple times, switched jobs, graduated with college at a late age and had a baby. Needless to say, the running ceased and I put myself on the backburner. I lost a lot of baby weight and then discovered in the last two months I gained 20 lbs of it back. My lifestyle has to change and I rejoined to start Sparkpeople's running plans. I've started with the 5K Your Way Rookie Running program. My goal is not to necessarily lose weight, although that would be fabulous. My ultimate goal is to run a half marathon down the road and record my weight loss as I go. Wonderful to be here and can't wait to meet all the Sparkers!!!!

Welcome to the team!

I would love to try a duathlon . I think that would be fun. But I'd definitely have to train to run after getting off a bike....at this point, just walking after getting off a bike takes it out of me...LOL

hello all! I'm finally finding a moment to be active in the team. I'm in week 2 now (almost week 3 already!) I am seriously enjoying this plan, I've never been a runner before because of really bad asthma, now I can run a 15 minute mile!
I can't wait to run a 5K!

I make time, not excuses.

Greetings one and all! I am training for a trail 5K. Running is not my favorite exercise, but I want to do a duathlon (run, bike, run) event, so need to get moving on the running part. Excited to read and be encouraged by others' journeys along the way.

I have a serious runner trapped on the inside of me... she is dying to run a 5K. Not walk, or trot.... RUN!

I have completed several 5K's over the years, but I walked them with a sprinkle of trotting for good measure.

It's time to change the pace and run the race!

Hello! Just joined the team and it's so nice to find familiar stories here. I started jogging last summer and completed (walk/jog) my first 5K in October. Then life and cold weather interfered and I stopped jogging and put on 10 lbs. by the start of the new year. Ready to start again with this program on the treadmill and looking forward to being part of a team! I've signed up for the 5K that's part of the Indy 500 Mini-Marathon in May, so I have something to work for!

Hi Everyone! I'm new to the team and new to SPARKPeople. So I'm still feeling my way around. In April 2011 I met my last fitness goal to walk a half marathon. It was the most amazing experience in my life and one I will never forget. I suffer from arthritis so this was a big to do. I hate to admit it, but soon after that I completely fell off the wagon. I haven't done much since in the way of fitness and nutrition so the pounds have started to creep back and overall I just feel tired all the time. So it's time to get moving, start new challenges, meet new goals, and make new friends. I'm in my 40's and back in the day I use to run 7 miles a day. I'm not suppose to run these days due to my arthritis, but found the other day that running on a springboard treadmill is amazing - no joint pains. Of course, this was approved by my docs so no worries. Moving on, here I am and I'm determined to run a 5K. Sign me up! I'm a 100% in. I'm also hoping the training will help speed my walking times for my next half marathon. My daughter (soon to be 13) and I want to walk a half marathon together some time in the near future.

I have learned that I am not just a do it kind of person. I need a challenge and a specific objective to get me moving.

So since I knew I wanted to do as many 5 K walks this year as I can found I knew I needed to get my arse in gear....and I found this program...on spark....go figure!

so on monday....Jan 23rd I will begin this program - Being a habit type of person scheduling in specific things on specific days will work for me.......I hope!!!

So it will be a Monday, Wednesday and Saturday schedule with other activities in between.

I am excited to start this.....I need this.....wahooooo!!!

Hi all....I am Sandy and I must tell you that I am sooooo not a runner. I did the C25K last year and have become somewhat addicted to the idea of trying for a jog 5 K. I have been testing myself but now I think it is time to just do it. I am not getting any younger. My goal would be to do a 5 K in less than 40 minutes. My Jog/Walk time has been between 45 and 47 minutes. I am training right now on a treadmill but would much rather do it outside but I don't like jogging in cold weather (for me that is less than 50 degrees). Although I did do a 5 K Turkey Trot with my family on Thanksgiving and the temp was 26 degrees. but I did not run...it was just nice to do it with family members at a nice walking pace.

Hi everyone,
I completed the Couch to 5K program using an app on my phone last spring. I was doing well with sticking to it all summer but stopped running when the weather got colder and I was in the midst of a move. I have since put on 10 lbs and I want to get back into it and lose weight before April, wen I am in a wedding. I already have the bridesmaid dress and I need it to fit again.

Hello-
My name is Kathy and I have been sidelined from running for about 6 months due to a knee injury. I am getting going again and needed a program to get help me get restarted without over doing it. I want to run a 5K this spring and this plan seems to be perfect. Excited to get back on the road and look forward to enjoying the plan along with the rest of the team.

Hi all.

I ran my first 5k last fall, but stopped running when it got cold and dark. I changed up my hours at work, so when I get back from Tempe on the 23rd, I will begin Week 1 of this program. I want to incorporate hills this time around, because it seems that the races around here all have them. It will be a great challenge!

Hi, just joined SparkPeople and want to get back into jogging. I've been doing elliptical for 45 minutes 3-4 times a week plus once a week Zumba. The health club I go to has a nice, padded 1/5 of a mile track. Is there a simple way to translate the minutes of running in the training program to miles? It would be easier for me to plan, say, one lap of walking and 1/4 lap of jogging than to try to keep track of minutes. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi! I've been wanting to get into running for quite awhile and finally got brave enough to join this training program. I am so excited, and just love how it is set up. I feel like I WILL be able to accomplish this goal, all I have to do is stick to the program. Thank you for having it so clearly laid out and easy to follow...and for the 'team' environment to field questions and give encouragement. Thanks SparkPeople, and also thanks to all of my teammates...we are on the path to success!

Hi Everyone!

I'm Sabrina and I'm 35. I attempted to jog once before and saw great results. I'm hoping this program will show me those results again and this time maintain them.

Feel free to add me as a friend. I look forward to getting to know you all!

Hi! I've been trying to work up the motivation to start this program for a while and have finally done it. Last year I tried ton get myself able to run a 5k on my own and was very unsuccessful. I hope that being on a team will help to keep me motivated, encouraged and inspired. Tomorrow I will start the running program, I hope. I'd like to be ready to run a race by May.

Hello!
I want to run a 5K in October. I know it's 9 months ahead, but I can't run more than 2 or 3 minutes (and that's after doing twice the walk/run 5k your way training).
I want to run all the time by then, and I have to train hard for that!

I did the Walk 5 km Your Way and now I'm starting the Rooking 5km Your Way. I want to be able to do a 5 km run with my husband (it's next Fall but I want to prepare & enjoy myself.) I'd like to improve my fitness just to do 5 km. I'm looking forward to this program!

Well, I wanted to give this a try. I have been exercising and sporadically working out for about 4 months now. I have been going to WW and have lost about 15 pounds, but for some reason I tend to do better with my weight loss journey until I actually commit myself to something. Crazy right? I am optimistic that I will complete this program and be running my 5k soon.

Hello Everyone! I just finished a 3.2 mile "there and back" walk to my mailbox...down my dirt road with a few hills...Day 1 of getting off the couch for me...I just started looking at the Fitness Tracker and found this team. This is what I have been looking for...some guidance. My husband and I ran a one mile fun run in Plains, Ga this fall...walking and jogging...really out of shape, but I wanted to do it last year and did not make it there. ..about 60 miles from my home...anyway I have only run one 5K in my life many moons ago in Macon, Ga with my best friend. I wasn't last, but really close to it...cobblestone roads in downtown Macon...well, ever since then I have always wanted to run a race. I like the atmosphere and the challenge, but I just think about it ...now I really want to do it...setting a goal to get in shape and this will help me...thanks for listening and I pray I can stick to it...I just joined a couple of teams and have enjoyed logging in and reading stories and blogging a little..I am 51 years old...retiring from teaching in June...like to go digging around for old bottles in the woods where people used to burn their trash...that's where I got my username...finding old soda bottles and blue Vick's salve and Milk of Magnesia bottles...Lee Anne

Hello
I just joined this team to get motivated and have a plan for couch to 5K. I'm sick of sitting on this couch and eating myself to a coma.

I use to use Spark People several years ago and loved it then, but wow it has really changed and for the better. Looking forward to spending time with you all and getting into better shape in 2012.

Cheers

I just joined today. This is my first time training for a 5k. The thought of running a 5k today sounds crazy, but I know that I can do it! This training plan will be great.

Hi everyone,

I joined this team earlier this year when I started the programme but then I got sick and had to put it on hold. Really I could have got back on track waaaaay sooner but I think I got swept away by negative momentum. Prior to that (about 4 years ago) I had started other jog/walk programmes but never finished them. I am determined that this time will be different.

Anyway, I have just finished my first week and really enjoyed it! I think I am a little fitter than when I first attempted this and so I didn't feel I was struggling. I've found myself finishing each session with lots of energy, not wanting to stop and feeling excited and looking forward to the next one. Well I'm going to enjoy that feeling while it lasts! :-)

I'm looking forward to reading all your posts and cheering you along on your journey!
