Hi I have an emotional sweet tooth issue. Dealing with stress or when I'm worried I feel the need for candy or something to start nibbling on that is sugar. Today was a tough day for me as I had problems at work and there is candy there. I only took one piece of chocolate instead of the 4 or 5 I would normally take.

Thanks! Yes, I am really trying....hard. But each day it gets easier. I find that drinking hot tea with honey is the biggest help when I want something sweet. All I need is a teaspoon of honey. As for tea....I'm using a detox tea I got at the health food store. The brand is Yogi and it's a liver/kidney detox..(I have pre-diabetes/fatty liver/celiac disease) tastes very good. I don't like fruity flavors and this one is not. Pre-diabetes and Celiac disease cause fatty liver which can be dangerous. So, while the tea is not a cure..I'm getting the benefit of it helping my sweet tooth as well possibly being good for me too. I look healthy on the outside, so I want my insides to start getting healthier too. Step by step...

For many years my problem has been a horrible candy addiction. I would go out of my way just to get candy. I can skip baked goods, chips, chocolate, but give me candy...candy corn, jelly beans, smarties, conversation hearts, good n' plenty, etc.... and I'm in heaven. Luckily, I'm most of the times too broke to buy stuff in bulk or when there's an after holiday sale, or I'd stock up for sure. Once I get the thought in my head to have a particular item...I am obsessed and almost can't think of anything else. I must say though...since joining Spark People last Saturday, I have only had 4 smarties on one occasion and a couple small pieces of chocolate (never said I didn't like it, just that it's not my addiction) on another occasion. I know that tracking the foods and calories helps and not having junk food in my system in the first place has helped tremendously. Down 6 lbs in 6 days! Feeling good!!

Thank you all so much for your ideas and positive support. Next time I am tempted by a bargain I will remember your strategies. emoticon

I love a good bargain too. My approach has been to redefine what a "bargain' really is when it comes to food and my healthy lifestyle journey. I had to find the reason(s) strong enough to be able to walk away more often than not given I don't believe in deprivation and knowing that I will be confronted with these items from outside sources.

Even with all that I've said, don't be too hard on yourself. It's baby steps. You've learned something new and now it's just a question of how to deal with it in the future. emoticon emoticon

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.

Mistakes are the portals of discovery.

Don't be afraid to give your best at what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones will tend to take care of themselves.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

When I go to the store and see all the Christmas candy that is already out, 2 months before Christmas, and know how long it sat in the back room before it hit the sales floor....combined with how long it traveled to get to the store, combined with how long it was in the warehouse before that...it loses some of its appeal. Same with Halloween candy.
That is not to say I never eat candy. But, if I make a small batch of fudge, wrap each piece and freeze it, I don't have the pressure to eat the whole bag...............and, if I do, at least I know it has been born this year.

If this was your last day, how would you spend it?

I have always loved candy and chocolate. It is getting better and I have learnt that if I don't bring it into the house it is so much easier. My problem is I have trouble resisting a bargain. For example Halloween candy now 75% off. What was I thinking emoticon I had resisted it in the months before Halloween but last week I bought (and of course ate) 2 bags!!

In the past I have bought and eaten the Halloween candy 4 times before Halloween so it is getting better. I am just angry with myself that I undo all my hard work trying to lose my excess weight.
