I'm joining up for the first time.
I am 62, 104K, and sedentary, happily married and really enjoying my work as a teacher.
I want to prepare for an energetic and lively retirement.
We have no children, so I need to take responsibility for my own long-term self-care.
I look forward to working together.
The tutorial likening this challenge to committing to a course of learning really motivated me to be proud of making a start, rather than embarrassed about revealing my age and weight to anyone else.
Liberating! Thank you for being there.

Moreymo - looks like you are here, and they say the first step back is the hardest. I know when I am ready to try again, it is so much a mental decision, that I am ready to make exercise and eating better a priority. I like what Coach Nicole said about thinking of it as taking a class, and putting the time into it, and needing to let some other things go a little or for a little while.

Tammy and Bethany - I am soooo glad I am not the only one who has been on and off SP for a few years. I'm glad I know where to go when I am ready to try again ; ) I think I will sign up for SC for 3 months and see if it helps me keep on it longer.

Wantszu, I'm in the same boat. I think sometimes this site has a little too much going on to get personal attention that some other sights have, (for example weight watchers), but I'm going to try it one more time! I think small groups of just a few people would work great, but I'm not familiar how to start one. The groups I've joined sometimes have hundreds of people and that's not very personal. I'm hoping this new coach thing works out!

Good afternoon,
I am a frustrated spark person who has never been able to lose weight. In the past 4 years I have been up and down 10 pounds. I have hypothyroidism, high BP and high cholesterol. My pulse is only 58 bpm. I am hoping the spark coach can help me get unstuck and my weight going down.

Good Morning Everyone!! It may seem to others on the outside that I haven't been working on my fitness and weight program as diligently as before. On the inside thought, things have been churning, adjusting and getting ready for outward changes.

I've been working on a 15-month plan to reach my fitness and weight goals. Using 12-week mini programs (3 to start) with mini goals and rewards, I've mapped out the next 15 months.
Now I have a weekly program for the next 12-weeks that includes cardio sessions6 days out of 7, 3-4 weight lifting days, social time in the gym via group exercise classes (cardio) and a weight lifting program from a well-known, respected trainer.
Plus it includes working with a personal trainer one day a week for the next 12 weeks (one of the weight lifting sessions each week); getting blood work done every three months, meeting with a Registered Dietician to go over weight check, successes, challenges, food logs and golas every two months.
Adding using the Spark Coach logging will help keep me on track.
I've also built in reality checks and encouraging motivation for those times when I will need it.
I love Spark People!!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Tammy and I'm 48 years old. I've been a member of SparkPeople on and off for several years. I start, then I stop, start and stop. I signed on the other day to see if anything was new and SparkCoach appeared. I decided to give it a shot and hoping it will give me the motivation I need to keep on track. I need something. I know just about everything there is to know about nutrition and exercise, just do not always seem to take my own knowledge and put to good use. So here I am!

Thanks for listening everyone!

Hi
I am Donna and I am 68 years young.

I am new to Spark Coach I am going to try it for the 2 weeks and see how it goes. I have been on Spark People since 2007 and have lost 28lbs it was 30 but gain 4 back and have now lost 2 of that.

I have been going to Curves for 21 months and I just love it. That is the longest I have ever stuck with an exercise program.

I am really looking forward to being on this team.

Donna

Hi everyone, I'm new to SparkCoach but have been a member of SparkPeople for several years. Over the summer I realized I was at my highest weight ever and resolved to do something about it. I came back to SparkPeople with renewed motivation and in the last 6 weeks or so, I have lost 9 pounds. I have 15 to go. I joined SparkCoach to try to keep the motivation going, as I realize I'm slacking on weekends and know it's easy to transition from slacking on weekends to slacking all the time.

My name is Cara, I'm 22 and in my last year of nursing school. I've been a member of spark people and spark teens for about 5 years I think, but I've never really been consistent. After gaining a lot of weight 3 years back I decided I really needed a change. I lost about 30 lbs doing P90x for a few weeks then started making excuses. I'm looking to go into the military when I graduate and really need to get 25 lbs off in about 7 months.

Hello - I'm new to the SparkCoach but have been on Sparkpeople a long time. My name is Kathryn and I'm 60 years young with grown children and 10 grandchildren. I have the same story as Sandy; I also have high blood pressure and bad knees. I want to get fit so I can play with and keep up with my grandchildren and travel in retirement.
I am also my own worst enemy. I have also lost and regained the same 30 - 50 pounds over and over again. If I start to gain weight I just give up on myself and gain all the weight back plus 10 pounds more.
It is really hard to motivate myself - it seems to be too much to even try.
But - ever the optimist - here I am to try :)

Hi, my name is Patrice. I'm 29 and need to loose more than 100 pounds to get to a healthy weight. I've been overweight pretty much my whole life and suffering abuse and starvation as a child has effectively given me motivation to buy and eat everything I want. I've recently started over with sparkpeople after a failed attempt to loose weight. That's a long story, but the short version is that I was trying too hard. I ended up over-training and suffering an injury that put me off my feet for a couple of months.
My goal now is to create healthy changes at a comfortable pace and be happy with my efforts.
My free trial of spark coach has ended and I just signed up for 3 more months. Cheers to falling and getting back up again!

Hello all! I am new to SparkCoach, so I wanted to take some time to introduce myself. I really need to get healthy, so I decided to take the extra step with SparkCoach. I've been a member of SparkPeople since 2009, but if anyone has tips on SparkCoach, pass them along.

I have a long journey ahead of me, and I hope and pray that this will be a change for the rest of my life, and not just until it all falls apart again. I just CANNOT keep doing this, because we always tend to gain back more than we lost.

So here I am! Happy to be here. Feeling great, and just taking this extra step to solidify it all.

Thanks everyone! Have a great healthy day.

Hi, my name is Sheila. I'm 42 yrs old. I own and operate a small trucking business as well as going to school. Time is an issue for me as I never know where I'll be from day to day or even how many hours I'll be driving so squeezing in healthy anything is huge challenge for me. When I am stopped I'm either studying or doing paperwork. Free time is almost non-existent. Between trying to grow my company and studying for my degree I've managed to put myself on the bottom of the lengthy "To Do" list.

It also doesn't help that I'm a diabetic who prefers to be a vegetarian and that I live with chronic pain which makes most exercise a matter of willpower. Added to that the lack of sleep and I rarely have the energy to deal with day to day issues.

I've tried (half-heartedly to be sure) to straighten out and get healthy but it's hard. And unless you live the lifestyle it's often impossible to explain to the medical people. Very frustrating! My top concerns are of course getting control of the diabetes so I can get off the medicines and learning better to ways to deal with the high stress without resorting to eating all the comfort food in sight!

I'm with you, Sandy. All or nothing is really tough to work around. It seems like we are old enough that we ought to be able to learn at least a LITTLE moderation. I'm trying. I slip up every day but I'm going to keep swinging at it for a change and shrug my shoulders at the slipups. Maybe try and figure out what triggered them, maybe not. I've never been very good at self examination.
I have one grandchild, too, and I want to be able to get on and THEN OFF the floor with her. I had no idea I'd love this grandchild so much. Who knew?

When we lose this weight our knees should be at least a little better, right? I doubt it'll be a cure all, but ...

Hi. My name is Sandy. I'm a 65 yo grandma. I have high blood pressure and bad knees. I want to get fit so I can play with and keep up with my grand daughter. I am my own worst enemy. I think I have lost and regained the same 25 pounds about 50 times. If I start to gain weight I just give up on myself and gain all the weight back plus 10 pounds more. Hi, I'm Beth, one grown son, married, 57, tired all the time from hauling around this extra 50 pounds. I did one of those liquid diets and lost 45 pounds 4 years ago. Gained it back faster than I lost it and I think my metabollism suffered greatly for it. If you're tempted to go there ... DON'T.
I think I know better now, and the sparkpeople approach will be lifestyle and not diet.
I think I like SparkCoach, although I don't think we get to email the coaches often enough. I think once a day while we're moving through it would be good. I doubt I'd use it every day but it would be a great comfort to know I could if I was sagging. I also know I should be able to bolster my own flagging whatevers but I'm just not that evolved, I guess. Anyway: coming in and reading people's positive notes has been helping. I'm going to have a good weekend. Hope you all do, too!

Hi everyone! Martha here. I love SP. Life has been SO busy lately that I have just put myself last, and I am ready to start doing something for me, and my health. I think SparkCoach is going to help me focus. I have been married 19 years to a great guy, and we have two wonderful kids in high school (ages 14 & 16). Looking forward to meeting some new friends here, and wishing you all blessings and success as you journey toward your goal!

Hi, I'm Sharon,
I have been using SP for almost 2 weeks and find that each small goal I make is really helping me. Tracking my food has always been a hassle and bother, but with this system it is pretty easy, and knowing that I could lose 2x as much weight if I track my food is a GREAT motivator!

Hi nice to read everyone's post.
I read a lot but don't hardly write, but I just signed up to SC and thought I would try being more active and see if it helps. I have a lot of trouble exercising but I try to get a 30 min walk in every day.
I need to get healthy, I am tired and sore all the time can't get up to do normal things around the house. I joined Sparks people long time ago and once lost over 76 lbs. but health issues made me feel sorry for my self and I gain them all back and then some.
Have a great day everyone and be well

I can certainly understand the feeling of being alone when your spouse is gone. My husband has been deployed 4 times in the last 10 yrs with the Air Force. It is very stressful and each time he leaves, I have an emotional eating feast. I am sorry that you have to have those feelings of sadness when he is gone. Set some small goals for yourself each time he is away. Maybe cut one food item that you have a hard time controlling and see if that helps.
Check in with me anytime. We can support each other.

Hi my name is Heather. I joined SparkPeople a year ago when a colleague mentioned the website. I only did the basics when I filled out my account and never came back...only now am I truly serious with losing weight and becoming healthier. i need help with motivation as I can be very hard on myself. I also travel a lot for my job which for me causes difficulty in making healthy food choices. I just joined SparkCoach today and am very excited!

I have played with my health for too long. I need the motivation, encouragement and accountability that I can find with a "spark family". I am an RN so I know the risks involved with an unhealthy lifestyle. I have recently been challenged with some minor health issues and am trying to nip it in the butt before it gets out of control. I am a military spouse, which means my husband can leave at anytime. He was in Afghanistan for most of last year and it was an emotional roller coaster for me, to say the least. Well, in a nutshell I did some emotional eating and gained more weight. If there is anyone out there that understands the rollercoaster ride of military life please give me a high five.
I'm on your 6.

Hi all. I'm Kati. Just had my 3rd baby in 4 years in May. Now that I'm finished reproducing, I took a step back and didn't recognize who I'd become. I gained 90lbs at the high point and still sit at 225-230. About 60lbs away from my goal.
I haven't seen Onederland in 5 years and I miss it oh so much!

Hi Spirit. I've been around sparkpeople for 5 years, working on getting more focused this time around and checking out sparkcoach.

I love Temple's story. I have a 15 year old autistic son and a teacher recommended the movie about her.

Keep up the good work!

Hi. I'm Spirit from Colorado! The clouds were hung low over the mountains today, perfect soup weather! Instead, I decided to try a new Spark recipe---Grapefruit Avocado Salad. It was yummy! I had also made crunchy cole slaw the day before, so I've got plenty of the right stuff to munch on. I also added sunflower seeds, almonds, and soy nuts to the Grapefruit Avocado Salad, to try to boost the protein content.

I am participating in a Ricky Mountains virtual challenge and got 700 steps in on the trails while waiting to sss the cardiologist. But the good news is I lost more weight and don't have cardiomyopathy anymore! Considering that I use to be in heart failure in 2008, I'll take better health any day!

So that's me today! Also, I am retired and live alone with my 3 cats in an apartment near CSU. Dr. Temple Grandin, animal sciences professor at Colorado State University since 1990, is considered a leader in animal welfare and one of the world's most accomplished and well-known adults with high-functioning autism. Come visit! emoticon

Hi, I'm Pam. New to spark coach, but not to spark people. I've tried a few times. It seems like every time I try something comes up. I'm an emotional eater. I need to lose 40 lbs, but with RA, exercising is harder & painful, even though, I need to do it. I'm hoping to find someone that has gone through the same struggles I'm going through now. Someone that can gives me some advise, tips, suggestions. I've got the healthy eating right, not so much portion control, but working on it. I'm going to make it this time!! Woohoo!!
