How are you doing on the website now, is it coming together for you?

I'm finding that the activiites keep me focused on my goal. I have picked the ones I like and ignore the others.

Angelrose2K: Like you, I found the site overwhelming. I first joined in 2009, got "lost" in the site with too many things to do, and stopped using SP. But funnily enough, the pounds that came to visit me, never went away. Last fall, my friend CIVIAV told me she'd joined, and had lost 33 pounds so far. So we had lunch, and I asked her to give me the simple straight goods. She said, "Just use the Nutrition Tracker and the Fitness Tracker to start, you can add all the community things later." I found it was good advice -- re-activated at the end of January, and have dropped ten pounds so far. I don't spend a lot of time on the team pages. Much of the site is a support group to help you with your motivation and accountability -- if that's good for you, great. Cheers, and good luck with your SP journey.

A couple of things that a lot of people do if you are looking to get more involved in the community aspects of SparkPeople

1) Set up a SparkPage. It is sort of like a homepage or a facebook page. You can put a picture or some info about yourself.

2) Look at your SparkPoints page. It gives points for doing stuff on the site. I found a lot of the stuff that was going on because of links on that page. Then the site sort of rewards you for getting more involved and it becomes a little bit addictive. But in a constructive way.

Anyway, that has been what I've found in my short months here.

Thanks for the great greeting, Big dave. You've come quite a ways. I'll keep you in mind while I struggle with my goals. My goals are set. I've got lots of activity around me taking care of our grounds and walking my dogs. My treadmill is upstairs and I use it now 3 times a week. Weights are also there. I have lost 4 lbs since the 9th of March and I beleive I have a good start. And it is FUN!

Welcome aboard,

It's not as overwhelming as it appears.

I think what you need to do is stick to the basics in the beginning.

Sign up. Done
Join a group or 2 or 3 or 4. Done
Get some Buddies. Done?
Set up your goals. Done?
Get Active. Done?
Have Fun. Done?
Stay in Touch?

Big Dave

Stay Healthy and Stay In Touch,

'Big' Dave,

I Can Go The Distance,
The Goal Is In Sight.

Hello All,

Starting the program today, website seems a little overwhelming. Can someone break it down it layman terms. Looking forward to the voyage and looking for some good people to do this with.

Thanks for any info you can supply.
