Hello,

My name is Danielle and I am 27 yrs. old. I decided to become a vegan for health reasons and have never looked back. I have an 11 month old son and I am just now mentally and physically in a position to get rid of this last "baby weight". I am looking forward to becoming a part of this group.

Ooh, Eat to Live is awesome. I wasn't able to maintain it in practice, but I totally believe in that book and try to eat as close to those principles as possible. Dr. Fuhrman also has a wonderful book on feeding kids that I love, and which has good recipes in it. That's great that you've been doing it for a week and it's going well!

Hi everyone,

I'm Janel, 39, originally from the southeastern USA, but living in Holland now for 7 years.

I was vegetarian for years, but got Celiac disease in 2000 and didn't know how to be both.

For the past few months, I've been slowly elimination animal products from my diet and then I found "Eat to Live" in March. I started the 6-week program last week and I really like it!

Hi! I am new to SP and like it so far. I am 34 and have been lacto ovo veggie for almost 20 years - since I was 15. Just could not stomach the thought of chewing flesh anymore. It has never been a problem for me because I have no craving for meat and am very flexible about what I eat otherwise....esp bread. But now I am dieting (...again) and pretty much cutting out carbs and breads. I still eat lots of fruit because I love it, and have always eaten boatloads of veggies. Another change I am making is forcefeeding myself protein. I find it is totally impossible to get 60 grams of protein in one day. So I eat more eggs than I'd like and also Smart Dogs which have 15 grams each. I'd love to hear suggestions for ways to get protein without carbs!

Hi Jenny, the most helpful things to me have been using the nutrition tracker and the fitness tracker. I still don't have the hang of everything, because there is a ton on this site and I've only been here a month or so, but reading articles and participating in the sparkTeams is helping me also. I hope they help you too! But I especially recommend the Nutrition and Fitness Trackers, those to me are the most important and helpful things on the site that I've been using so far.

I want to loose 25 pounds in a healthy way. For those of you who have found this to be a helpful site, please walk me through how you did it.
Thank you!

Hi, I'm BK from upstate New York. (I prefer to have my name pronounced BeeKay, but have been known to answer to Beak.) I've been a vegetarian for around 15 years -- it's been a long time and I don't remember exactly when I really started. I still eat dairy in moderation -- since I had my gall bladder out last summer, cheese has, um, consequences, so I limit that. Eggs do too, so I eat those in extreme moderation. I'm vegetarian for my health, for eating lower on the food chain and for lessening my own carbon footprint. I don't miss meat, although I sometimes think that dieting would be easier if I was willing to eat chicken. Just because it's easier, doesn't mean it's right for me.

Hi! I'm Devin, I've been a vegetarian for over 3 years. I do eat dairy (and fish/seafood occasionally). We eat a lot of Indian & Mexican food. I'm really looking forward to this summer, when fresh fruit & veggies are more readily available (and not shipped from warmer climates).

Hi my name is Lizzy and I've been with spark people for a while, but I haven't been using it so I suppose I'm new now. I've officially been a vegetarian since my husbands' brithday March 20th, but I've been a pollo vegetarian for a lot longer and I finally figured out how to still get protein and to just ignore what my family says about it being unhealthy and do it. I am extremely happy now and it's even helped me in my weight loss! emoticon

Hi. I just joined this team. Here's the thing... I was vegan for a long time, but I grew up on the west coast where it was so easy and natural to eat that way, because there was so much fresh food in season all the time, I never felt any need to eat animal foods. Fast forward 10 years. My husband and I and our two kids live in the northeast where it's easy to eat vegan in the summertime, but in the winter, it's just awfully difficult, because I feel like we're having to eat so much that's not in season, or that's shipped from far away. So in the last year or so, we've given up vegetarianism. We eat chicken, milk, cheese, ground beef, turkey... I really miss the way we used to eat, and so does my husband. Any vegans out there who've figured out how to do this in a colder (freakishly hostile, in my opinion) climate?

Also, this has probably been discussed in lots of threads already, but I'm going to throw it out there anyway... Protein. And calcium. I never used to care what amounts of nutrients I was getting, but now that I have kids, I do worry. I don't want them to be deficient. I don't want their growth to suffer in any way as a result of me not supplying them with adequate nutrition. Is anybody feeding vegan kids?

Maybe this isn't even doable and I shouldn't even be thinking about this until we can move back to CA. Ugh!

Hi. My name is Jessie and I'm a recent convert to vegetarianism in the middle of Wisconsin. Having a this group for support would be a huge help in sticking to a vegetarian diet, let alone losing weight.

I just joined a day ago, but am finding sp enormously helpful. It's nice to meet you all. :D

HI..mom of three kiddos here and I have been in SP for about a month now. I am not a vegetarian, but slowly making the change and thought this site would help. I do not eat any beef or cow products which has been an easy change for me (been over 6 months)except for the loss of cheese...I have not found a good replacement. I am slowing introducing my family to a more whole foods lifestyle and they are coming along nicely...for the most part. I am glad to be a part of this team emoticon

Hi Everyone! I used Sparkpeople successfully last Spring and over the past summer. Unfortunately, I let go of all of the healthy eating habits and re-gained the weight. I REALLY need to do this again and keep it off FOREVER! I have decided to seriously make lifestyle changes (finally). I became a vegetarian about 2 months ago (may even go vegan at some point). I started "Clean Eating" and I'm hoping that by using SP and with your support :) I will do this!

Hello All,

I am not vegetarian, my husband is, so I joined the veg. group too. He was raised as a lacto ovo vegetarian for religous reasons, so I don't cook meat at home. I guess I'm a weekday vegetarian. I only eat meat when I go out to eat or forget to pack a lunch, (probably one meal a week on average). I don't miss meat much, and I haven't decided whether to give it up or not. I do have cravings once in a great while for fish and beef. I have grown to like hummus and other things I never thought I would like!

Hi all! My name is Courtney, and I've been on the Spark for about 2 weeks. I've been vegetarian since I was 17 (I'm 21 now), and currently identify as vegan (have been for 2 years), but I have a tendency to cheat now and again. I try really hard not to, but sometimes... food is food! I feel better as a vegan, so, one day at a time, life goes on. I've always been soft and curvy. I tend to eat a lot of fried and breaded things, so my main goal is to work those out of my diet, and work in more fresh whole foods, and home cooking verses a box. I love love LOVE to cook, I'm just a very busy college student with no time, and the box is so easy!

To the group, I'd like to offer one, my cooking skillz. My mom was an apprentice chef when she was younger, then stuff happened and she couldn't finish it out, and taught me everything she knows. So me and cooking are really good friends. Two, I am a Health Science Major, AKA Health Education/Public Health Major. I have a wealth of knowledge on nutrition and other health topics, and if I don't have it, I can find an article to answer it with concrete science. So if anyone wants info/new recipe, let me know!

Allow me to introduce myself. Hi there Sparks Family, Been a veggie more than two decades. My sweet tooth has gotten me in trouble, ONCE AGAIN. I am in the health care professuinal and sometimes work 12 hour shifts. Poor eating habits and wearing drawstring scrubs 7 days a week has lead to a whopping 27 pound weight gain. When my meat eating friends discover that I am a vegetarian, they assume that all veggies are anemic and underweight. I will admit I too was surprised when my favorite pair of jeans cut off my blood supply after a mere 10 minutes. There's an old mean spirited joke in the vegetarian world. What is the one thing worse than a vegetarian?..A Fat Vegetarian. EGAD ! Anyway happy as punch to have stumbled into the SparkPeople World. Having community is really going to work for me. emoticon

Hello everyone. I am a full-time mom of 4. I think we have decided that our family is complete, so now I need to lose all the extra baby weight I have been carrying around. I have been a vegetarian since I was 17. Unfortunately, the rest of my family have decided on a carnivore lifestyle. It has been tricky cooking 2 different meals for my family, so I am always looking for new recipes that the meat eaters will enjoy that I can also eat. I only allow my family to eat meat 3x a week (1 form of red meat, 1 poultry, 1 fish), to make it easier for myself. Anyway, my biggest obstacle is finding time to exercise. I am very busy, and 2 of my kids are not in school yet, so it is difficult. The good news is, I have already lost 3 pounds since joining, so I am very motivated to keep going!

Hi! I've been in this group for a while but am just now introducing myself. I live in CT where it is raining again today. I love being vegan for moral/ethical reasons and for the health benefits. I recently turned 30 and in some ways feel healthier than I did 10 years ago (the first time I tried being vegan and failed). Have a wonderful day. Ang

Hi! My name is Dani I am from Ohio with a move to Florida soon, I joined a bit ago but I finally got active on this site. I LOVE it, but I love not eating innocent animals even more!
My goals in general are to lose about 45 pounds and love/appreciate my body more. But in this group my goal is to eat more vegan and less vegetarian like I have in my past. I am not proud every time I eat cheese or eggs or (gasp) seafood :-/ Yea I have done it in the last two years (not often) but I needed to fess up and do better.
Thanks for having me!!

Good luck to all of you and may we all reach our goals!

Hi,
I'm new to sparkpeople and so far I like it a lot. I'm celebrating my 20 year anniversary as a vegetarian. Because of genetics it's always been very easy for me to gain weight regardless of how active I am. I hope that sparkpeople will help me find the right equation to get to a healthy weight.
I love being a vegetarian and have tried to go vegan several times, but I never could get enough protein. I've recently given up caffeine- which was blocking vitamin uptake. I've been off caffeine for a few months now and am no longer anemic.

Hi I'm Remee~
I was an on and off vegetarian for a couple years.. I still had some cheese at times on pizzas, enchiladas and lasagne. At one time, I tried out the eat clean diet and began eating some chicken for a short while.
It was starting to bother me to eat meat, I couldn't put my finger on it.. It just didn't feel rightto me.
So I went back to eating vegetarian. I decided also that since I didn't drink milk at all, I wanted to cut out dairy in all forms.

I'm now following one of Dr. McDougall's programs and plan on keeping this for life.:)

Hi I'm Rachel. I would love to remain in this group even though I am not a vegetarian. I used to be years ago. It automatically joined me in this team because I asked for a vegetarian meal plan (mainly because I am lazy and don't cook). But in reality I have many reasons that always steer me away from meat. I'd love to stick around to get advice and recipes. Thanks!

Welcome to the group and becoming vegetarian. I have been a vegetarian for 20 years. My children were raised vegetarians and they are all very healthy. Remember: don't listen to people that will tell you that it is not healthy to raise your children vegetarian. I heard it all--even from my nutrition teacher. It will be natural to still crave meat at first. However, after time, it becomes easier. I remember we would eat meat at holidays the first year or two but now we do not even desire the meat. Restaurants will remain a challenge but there are some really great restaurants out there that offer vegetarian alternatives. We are always behind you and support your decision.

Welcome to the group. It is wonderful that you are only 25 and have been a vegetarian for 14 or 15 years. My children were raised vegetarian, too. I understand your love for cheese. There is vegan cheese. However, I must admit that I prefer regular cheese. I just limit my cheese intake and I try to eat good cheese (no processed cheese).

Hello,
I am 25 married, turn 26 in September and want to get healthy. I have been a vegetarian for 14 or 15 years, but recently started to explore a vegan lifestyle. I'm trying to go all organic aswell, although it is more expensive. I have found the biggest trials to come when eating out, or dinner at the in-laws or group gatherings. I really don't like to come off snobby when I only eat a salad, because I'm secretly starving when there isn't anything else :P And I still love, and will always love, cheese. I will never be able to cut that out, but am trying to limit my intake.
Looking forward to see what I can learn from this group, and what I can contribute!

Hi, I am Katey. I need to lose enough weight so that I am no longer "obese" to have a baby. This is a self-imposed absolute. I know plenty of people have healthy babies when they are obese, but I am 40 and I am just not someone who can add those kind of risks when i should just lose the weight.

I live in Denton, TX. I am happily married and we are both determined to be healthy and active for our kids. Even if we end up adopting, we want to be as healthy and active as we can. Our home is almost always vegan, although we both enjoy dairy, etc at times when out, but usually only when it is something really good and special. I will probably be closer to full vegan when I get pregnant, and we would like to raise our kids vegan.

I was initially (as of last week, when I rejoined SP) gonna work on the weight loss using the Paul McKenna "I Can Make You Thin" method, but i have decided that I will go back to counting calories, as of tomorrow today.

I am always looking for tasty, light, EASY vegan/veg recipes!!

Welcome, welcome again. I think this is the best time of the year to either begin or restart your vegetarian lifestyle. More fresh fruits, more salads, lighter meals, etc. Spring/Summer makes people more active and more activity makes you less likely to eat heavy.

Hi! I'm Jen...a brand spanking new vegetarian (as in 3 days ago). So far so good, but we're going out with the inlaws tonight, so the restaurant will provide my first real challenge.

Any way, I'm 29, married, mommy to a 2 year old boy, and am very excited to start this new stage in my life.

Hi, I am not new to being a vegetarian. i love this site and what it has done for me so far. I was a vegan for twenty years then stopped after my divorce. This was when I gained a lot of weight. I stopped eating helathy and went into a spiral spin for about a good eleven years. I then decided this year I will reclaim me and stop eating chicken and beef. I still eat fish and I don't think I will take that out of my diet. I look forward to getting support and making new friends.

Hi! I am Lynnea, new to Sparks and to vegetarianism. I have not eaten meat or and meat products in about 3 months now and am working my way toward veganism. Just joined the gym too! Trying to get healthy and I do have one vegetarian friend so that helps, but with 3 kids and man who eats like a kid on top of a full time job I need more meal ideas that aren't pasta or rice with veggies and don't cost my whole paycheck to feed a family of 5. So I figured with all you veggie veterans maybe you can throw some things out there... did I mention my 26 yo boyfriend eats like the biggest kid in the house! (at least the kids I can MAKE try new things lol)
