Can you believe that we're at the end of June already?

Patti (CANNINGNANNY), how is your garden growing this year? I'm sure you're up to your eyeballs in something. Mine is finally starting to kick in and show some real growth. I was just commenting last week to the family that I was a little disappointed at how slowly things were going, but they reminded me that everything went into the ground later than usual because we had to build the fence first to keep the animals out. I had some problems with cucumber beetles eating my winter squash and that was discouraging. I finally dusted them with Sevin since there were no flowers on them to attract any bees yet and that took care of the problem overnight. Fortunately, I had enough plants started that I should still get plenty to harvest if nothing else goes wrong. They are now sending out runners and showing some flower buds, so that's encouraging. Last week we had temps well into the 90s and that seemed to get things going too. Yesterday, I finally had tomatoes tall enough to tie to the supports and they have lots of flowers on them. Things are looking up now.

Oh Vixen, I don't do it all and that's nothing ever looks "put together " around here. I need to dust and vacuum tomorrow because I didn't do any cleaning today. I dont like housework and will nearly always find something else to do, but we're wanting to sell this place so I can't let things go for long.

I don't see where you get all the energy and strength to do the things that you have to do. Working at your log house, on the ranch and your other house. How in the world do you do it. I find it hard just to keep one place clean and put together. You make me feel so lazy. I need to dust, but can't seem to find the time to do it. I guess I'm going to have to take a page out of your book and just get busy and do it.

Nice to hear from you, Barb! This team has been pretty quiet lately but I guess that's to be expected on a DIY team when the weather starts to get nice. I know I've been really busy lately and am not even close to keeping up with things. Sorry to hear about the break-ins! I do remember you mentioning your elderly neighbor and your concern for her living there alone. Did she stay with family or go into an assisted living place? You are so good at getting your things sold--I need to do some of that again.

My raspberries here at the log house are ready to be picked again and I need to get out there and get them before the birds eat them all. The ones we transplanted out at the ranch are taking off too, and the kids have been nibbling them as they find them. Things are all growing slowly this year, it seems to me. I'm going to add some fertilizer from a friend's manure pile as side dressings on some of my rows. This garden is on an old pasture and hasn't been amended that I know of so the extra doses of compost and manure will help to build the soil.

I have been trying to write for what is now weeks.

Terri, with juggling 3 places now, I don't know how you manage. I hope you sell the log house soon.

TWYSTEDSYNS, what Terri daid is such good advice. "One project always leads to at least 3 more" is so tru. Remember to wear the proper protection. I did a lot of what you have descrobed in one form or another. What kind of wood are the floors? I wondered about the epoxing instead of Polyurethane sealer. I had great results with Varthane brand and it is so much easier to apply and less toxic. Of course a penny floor does require epoxy. I watched a program on one of the hosue shows. Nice dream but crazy!!! Concentrate on the rest of your projects.

I finally was able to see my prosthodonist (in the city to the north of me) after my March appt was cancelled. I've also had two rounds of Physio and chiro appts. Participating in my Yoga classes online really helped. I joined in twice a week instead of the previous once a week in studio. I was in pretty good shape given that it was so long (except for the weekly migraines). The only issue I have is that I have to clean, move furniture before and after and set up my laptop each time.

Last Thur we had a gathering of our Guild members in the large park next to the Community Centre where we normally meet. Lots of large trees for shade and washrooms were open. We were all so happy to see each other. It was beautiful day too. We needed that shade.

I finally gave up on my bike that I've had for 25 years. I really like it but either didn't fit me very well or old hip injuries affected my posture on it and living in trafgfic areas or on hills, I never rode it very much althought I wante to. We've had a lot of breakins or attempts b/c of the bikes stored in the garage areas so in Feb the Council decided no bikes could be stored there. I had temporary storage until Spring but then Covid hit. Sun I retrieved it out of storage, cleaned it up took photos and put it up for sale. It was sold winthin an hour. We had another breakin the night before lasst. They destroyed the building's south entrance door in the process. It will cost several thousand to replace.

Along with everyone else it seems, I've been having trouble sleeping. Sometimes it's the weather changes, sometimes just insomnia, and sometimes some really weird dreams. One night I dreamt Anne Murray moved in across the hall. I don't even like her music. The apt has been empty since last fall when the 98 yo owner went back to Ottawa to visit her son. She really wasn't fit to stay there on her own. After several years of no one selling in this building, there are now 3 units for sale. Two of them are for two individuals who found love and want to get a place together. It's smart to start fresh together.

I had my 2nd Shingrix shot on Monday. It had been rescheduled of course. It wasn't as bad as the first one or the Pneumonia vaccines but it did wipe out Tue.

I had to turn on my A/C yesterday for the first time this year.

Oooo...I don't envy you that job! My dad remodeled every house we ever lived in, so there was always something torn up. However, it made everything nicer in the end so was worth it. I suggest making lists and prioritizing things so that you tackle them in an order that doesn't waste time or resources. Water leaks have to be dealt with and damage repaired, so that's a given. One project always leads to at least 3 more, so it's good to anticipate finding other issues once you dig into something.

Have fun!

Just moved back from being out of state for 3 years because of my job and husband and I have decided we really need to remodel the house. It's going to have to be a project we do while he and I (And the kids, dogs and cats) are still able to maintain a living space. There's projects that are small like reworking cabinet paint - to medium jobs like removing the awful sand based paint and popcorn ceiling covers - to huge jobs like gutting out the linoleum and stripping floor paint that is under it, and all the work that's needed after that to epoxy paint the floor (I have dreams about a room with a penny floor too *facepalm*) - have to rehang drywall, etc etc etc too in some rooms we've already stripped down to the studs because of leaks etc that happened while we were gone. Always open for suggestions about how to start and where to start with more projects.

...and the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.

I worked in my garden yesterday for the first time in a while. I pruned the tomatoes and sprayed some vinegar/water on the squash plants in hopes of repelling the squash beetles. They are destructive little pests!

I had to make a quick trip down to our other house and do a lot of mowing and weedeating. I took 3 grandteens with me to help and BOY, were they a lot of help! We had not been able to get down there to do this work because of demands here, but it desperately needed to be done before the grass dried up and became a fire hazard. We got it all done in about 10 hours of work with 3 weedeaters and a lawn mower for me. Whew! I will be glad when we can get that house sold!

I don't think it's too late for the greens, but if it gets too hot, they may want to go to seed too soon. You can get a tomato cage for the cucumbers and it will support them, Vixen. I did that last year for my lemon cucumbers.

I planted some cucumber, tomato, and basil see several weeks ago in flower pots and they are coming along nicely. I think, though, that the pot for the cucumber could have been a little larger. I need to find something the stake the plants with so they can grow up. I also tried bell peppers but they didn't do anything.

Questions - is it too late to plant turnip and mustard green seeds?

A clean house is such a joy. I need a team of magic fairies! I get 2/3 the way through sorting stuff and run into a roadblock. I've been having migraines once a week which eats into my time. I don't know why unless I need the more frequent physio & chiro appts. Fortunately they started again this week. I have a dental appt next week.

My fridge and freezer are full. One more soup to make to use up the veggies in the fridge, then not much cooking needed and I can get back to clearing stuff up.

My very small garden on my balcony is coming along nicely.

It must be nice to just get away from the city and do something you enjoy. Sometimes I wish I had a place in the country away from everybody and just enjoy nature.

Thank you, Vixen! The showing went well and the lady loved the house, but not the property. It doesn't fit what she wants to do because it's on a steep hillside.

On the upside--my house got cleaned! I eliminated a pile of clutter, sorted through boxes of photos (still not nearly finished) and burned papers that we no longer need to keep. That's such an ordeal--to go through all those papers and decide what should be kept and what can go. I have lots of correspondences from my adopted kids' bio family that I had to read through and decide what to do with, so it was emotional as well. I'm glad to have made a good start.

I have all but a few of my starts planted in the garden and now only have to do the ones I'm going to direct seed. It's been such a cool spring and has taken me longer to get things into the ground because of waiting for the fence to be finished that I hope my harvest isn't too late.

We have a showing of our house scheduled for tomorrow morning, so today is going to be lots of cleaning and trying to eliminate or hide clutter that can't be eliminated yet. YIKES!

Thank you Barb! It was celebrated precisely like we celebrate every other day together and that's perfect for us. I had to run errands in the morning and then pick him up at 3:00 in the afternoon from work. Then we went out to the ranch and planted stuff until it was too dark to see. Came home exhausted and a little sore, but very satisfied.

That is a lot of plants, I know. I won't plant them all, but more that half, I suspect. I am feeding a village and hope to offer a farm share if the abundance permits. Last year's canning has really helped all of us to shelter in place more comfortably because we haven't had to run to the store as often. Both of my local sons raise livestock so we have our own meat and eggs too.

Today is our 46th anniversary and it will be another work day. Steve is driving truck today and I'm going out to the ranch to plant more in the garden. I worked in my sewing room for a little while this morning and have all of my yarn stash sorted and boxed into 6 large plastic bins. I hadn't realized that I had so much yarn! Guess I'll have to swear off any more until I work through more of what I've got! Same story with fabric, but I have lots more of that!

Time to get on the road. Happy Tuesday!

Wow Terri, that is a lot of tomato plants! So sorry about DD3's birthday gift. That is so horrible. There are a lot of thefts from doorsteps everywhere. Too often, the delivery people aren't even knocking, just dumping it. Even though there is a lot of pressure for deliveries, that is not acceptable.

Vixen your lilies are gorgeous! Unfortunately, I'm allergic to their perfume.

I finally gave in and gave FB my cell number. As soon as I did, I was back in. I'm a Moderator for a Local Buy & Sell group and I think someone or more reported me as Spam or as Harassment to get even for me making them adhere to the group rules. From now on, if they break them I'm removing them. No 2nd chances. I want to remove my cell number from FB now I'm back in and use a different method (3 trusted people) but they are hiding where to change it.

Today is a cooking and baking day. I have several things in the fridge to use. Already made hummus which I love and the recipe I followed make the perfect hummus for me.

Our plans for the day have changed, so it looks like more garden time for me. I need to get some peppers into the ground before it gets hot next week. They are becoming unhappy in the greenhouse. I still have about 100 Roma tomatoes to plant, too.

Barb, I know exactly what you mean about giving out too much information over cyber space. Terri, I sorry that your daughter hasn't received her gift yet. That can be so frustrating. I ordered a pair of sandals for my DH back in April and I have not received them yet. I contacted the company and they keep telling me there is a backlog on the shipments. Thank goodness I ordered them through PayPal and I won't have any trouble getting my money back. My garden still needs work.

As promised here are some pictures of my Lilies.

Barb, I feel your frustration. I don't like giving out more information to these cyber entities, but don't mind layers of security. Still...

I mailed two boxes for my girls' birthdays and neither one of them received their boxes on time. DD2 finally got hers at the post office and realizes that she should have given me her current address when she moved the last time. I sent it to an old address. DD3's may have been stolen and I am just sick about it. I can't replace the gifts. Now I wish I had sent it registered mail so they would have to go and sign for it. I'll know better in the future. Our mail is no longer as secure as it once was and we aren't used to that.

The window washers didn't show up. I went downstairs to see where they were and found a notice saying it is cancelled and rescheduled to June 18th. In the meantime, I had taken down all the screens. So before putting them back up, I've washed them and cleaned all the tracks. Now I only need to wash the inside of the windows for June 18th and take the screens down again that morning. It's such a pain to remove them and put them back up because they don't fit properly. One is too short so is always in danger of falling out.

I went to check my Facebook page and discovered I've been locked out. They are demanding my cell number as verification. They have my email which has an alternate. This is just a ploy to collect more information. I can sign in, download my account but I can't see my it or post, msg or anything. Grrr!

This is one frustrating day. I want to either go back to bed, watch TV, read my book or do all three! I'm burying my head under the covers.

Terri, you're making good progress! Yes, Vixen, it would be nice to see pics of your lilllies.

The green onions are all processed, used or frozen. They produced about 8 cups of chopped onions. The Spring Onion Soup recipe turned out quite well and used 2 cups of chopped onions. www.spiceupthecurry.com/spri

Frozen tray ready for a freezer container

Yesterday I delivered the netbook to it's new owner. It was nice to drive more than a mile or two for groceries. I filled the van with gas, first time in two months. I have my physio and chiro appts scheduled. My Weaving Guild has a Facebook page now and it's great fun to see what people are doing, miscellaneous requests for help or info. such a great response by everyone. This was done by one member for Sept's Challenge.

My organizing and cleanup is starting to show visible results, even the piles of papers. Feels Good! My lettuce is coming along nicely and some is ready to pick.

The window washers are scheduled to come in an hour to wash all of the building's exterior windows. It's pouring rain! I hope they wait. Last Fall, it rained a few days after the windows were done which left spots on the newly washed windows. Good thing I don't see them unless I'm up close to the window. I have to remove the screens before they come. I always wash them before putting them back up. Living in an apartment, there are always projects, often unexpected, that throw your own schedule off course.

I'd love to see pictures of your garden, Vixen. Cathy (LECATES) loves orange, so I'm sure she'd like those lilies too.

We stretched the wire on the last section of the garden fence yesterday and now Steve will string the electric fence around the top to keep the horses off it and build some gates to close up those openings, and then I can put my plants out. We also built an arch for my pole beans and then gs Blaine and I planted two 8 ft. rows of seeds. We'll go back today and see if we can finish making it secure.

The next time I buy green onions and don't use them all, I will put them in the freezer. I have been just tossing them out..

My flower garden is starting to look good. My lilies are mostly in bloom. The orange colored ones are really making my garden pop. I also have some that are purple and white but they haven't bloomed all the way yet.

Thanks for those suggestions Terri. I forgot to mention these green onions are huge, approx 1 1/2 ft long. I used 1/2 cup chopped onions in a Salmon Sweet Potato Cakes last night and froze what I didn't use of the onions I had chopped. I still have a huge bag in the fridge. I was going to make a Spring Onion Soup recipe today that I found but I got to doing a million little things, then finished getting the little netbook ready for sale. All done! Yaaay! She picks it up tomorrow. I sure learned more than I ever wanted to about Window technical stuff. Now I know how to do a lot of it not that I want to. It's a big relief to have it done.

I like green onions with scrambled eggs, in Chinese egg flower soup, and in salads. I've never frozen or dehydrated them. I did plant what's missing from yours (the root end) from a bunch in my little planter box the other day. I've done that before and had them grow and give me fresh salad onions all summer.

The pest guy is scheduled to come today and treat the outside of the house, so we're going to pack up all my garden seedlings (now plants) and take them out to the ranch. I hope to be able to see the last of the fence go up today and then put some tomatoes into the ground!

I was given a large! bunch of garden fresh green onions. I've dehydrated market onions and I'm reading about freezing them. I need this to be easy. They don't have the bulbs. The pic is after cleaning & washing.
Any ideas on how to use some then freeze some & dehydrate some?

Good advice Cathy. I found it takes a long time to find the new homes for stuff. Even if boxes are labelled it can get confusing when it comes to finding things. Moving as much as possible ahead of time helps too. Sounds like you are very organized Terri.

Cathy, I had a look at the photos you posted of the front of your house. It sure looks great! You wouldn't know it is the same one. Do we get to see new pics or before & after pics of the back door/porch/landing?

I sold my wool batts and the netbook will go on Wed. I learned a lot in 'decommissioning' the netbook. I probably went about it all backwards, my usual approach, until I learn how. Only a couple of finishing touches of removing my user account on it so she is the only account. Just makes it all cleaner and I'm learning all kinds of technical stuff.

I've had a couple of migraines since I last saw my chiropractor so I was really glad of my appointment yesterday. I need to the physio too but that won't happen for about 3 weeks.

My Zoom yoga/exercise class is this morning. That means vacuuming, moving furniture, setup, then everything in reverse at the end of the class. I still can't get the microphone to work.

My lettuce is coming along nicely. Once I finish this computer stuff, I can transplant them. The apartment complex has the window (exterior only) coming this week so that means removing all my screens, washing them and the windows and then putting the screens back up. The screens don't sound like much but I seem to get water everywhere when I wash them.

I need to go to the grocery store today which I am not looking forward to. It is a long weekend here, Monday being Victoria Day.

Have a great weekend.

Make sure you label what is in those bins and what rooms they need to go in. That is what I did when we moved and it was easy for the guys to put them in the proper place for me. Purge as much as you can so that you don't have to unpack and then purge. I did a lot of that but some stuff should have been. Moving is good for that.
My front porch looks so nice and I enjoyed being out there yesterday---there was a nice little breeze and until the sun came in on the side, it was very pleasant out there. And the cats loved it! The rest helped the knee so today I plan on hosing off some things and taking them back up front to where they belong. I think I will hose off the front steps, too, and also work on the back deck and maybe, just maybe, the back patio. They both need a good sweeping before being hosed off. My dh will probably help with this stuff. He finally got his sign weatherized and it is ready to be put up on the shed. Michael is going to come either today or tomorrow to put it up for him.
Have a good Saturday!

Thank you, Cathy. That's pretty much my sentiments about selling the house, too. We will pack up all our extra clothes and get some more storage bins for those kinds of things. I'm glad I've already gotten rid of a lot of my furniture and have a few more pieces that are spoken for. That will make it easier. Books, CDs and DVDs have been pared down a bit, but we'll likely get rid of most of them now.

Wow--it's getting REAL now!

Terri, I sure hope it sells soon for you guys---but not so soon that you are overwhelmed with the move.
Bought one of those plastic face shields to wear instead of a mask---so much better---I can breathe in it and it is comfortable enough to wear for longer. I am thinking we might need to wear masks when we return to school in the Fall and this will definitely be preferable to the face masks.

We signed the papers and the house is officially For Sale. The realtor took a few pictures, but will be coming back next week when it's sunny and warm again to get more. Meanwhile, we are continuing to work and clean and pack things up. My sewing room will be put away and packed into bins, as I won't be doing any more big sewing projects for a while

Our realtor is coming this afternoon to see where we are on our readiness to put this house on the market. There are still things that need doing, but are underway and will continue to be worked on, but we really want to get it listed. We still have to live in it, so it's not going to be "showroom perfect" and we aren't going to be able to keep it staged, but the clutter and extra things are now going to have to find new homes.

The thing about these windows is that I can't blame it on not being able to climb up the ladder and remove the storm windows to clean them----LOL I especially like the feature where I can raise them a bit and leave them raised as there is a locking mechanism that won't allow them to be opened further so that makes it safer---since i live in a small city, that is important. I am sure I will be using that this weekend when the weather turns hot for a few days.
Barb, I sure hope you are able to clear that stuff off and can deliver it to the person who wants it. I just hope I don't forget which house is mine---LOL I put the pictures next to each other on my page for a comparison of the colors.
Finished cleaning the outside of the kitchen cabinets so need to wash the floor and then move on to the front porch since it is warming up. I think I might wear my mask out there with all the pollen I will be disturbing---LOL

Terri, your post gave be a good laugh. My sentiments exactly about cleaning. It doesn't happen until it is in my face or I have to because of company. It seems there is always more than I can handle. It's getting better with the hold on events, appointments and only grocery shopping once a week.

I had single pane double hung windows in my 1906 house. I wanted to maintain the Heritage aspect of the house so a friend/self taught carpenter routed out the frames and installed double pane glass in the 3 windows. What a difference it made. That was back around 1980.

With our nice weather this past week and the overnight temperatures in the mid 40's I've left the cool weather herbs and lettuce outside fulltime. That's a relief. It was getting to be a pain moving them in and out every day. I really need to transplant them to larger containers and start another batch of lettuce but I also need to finish prepping my small Gateway Netbook for sale. I just found a whole lot of sensitive files that I thought were removed. She wanted to get it today but I'll deliver it to her in a few days. Countdown is on! The level of technical expertise level required is well beyond anything I've done before. It has been a mental challenge for sure.

Cathy, glad everything worked out. The comment about your son is funny.

Patti, I think those windows are called "double-hung" because both segments move. I think they work well with high ceilings, but am not sure about our modern rooms. I heard that they would open the bottom on the shady side of the house and open the top on the hot side to encourage the flow of air. Today's ceiling fans would likely help with that, too. I am all for passive heating and cooling when I can get it as we used to live in a house in the country with no electricity and it was important to think about these kinds of things. Also, the ease of cleaning is super important. I'm not a cleaning fanatic--quite the opposite, in fact; however, it's likely to happen more often if it isn't a huge chore.

Vixen, I got that done a couple of years ago. Best thing we ever did---and love that I can actually clean the windows now---although I don't do it that often. I had Window World do mine---but they are all locally owned so check the out---offer a good rate---you might find you want to do it in stages with that many. We are now talking with them about doing the basement windows as they are in bad shape. I had them do 13 windows and our back door. They just finished our siding on our house because we had good service---like I washed the bathroom window and it wouldn't go back in---it had come off the track---they came within an hour and a half, showed us how to put it back on track if it happens again which is pretty simple, plus there is a life time warranty on them.
House is done----looks good---there was an issue at the back door but they figure it out and everything worked out fine. Now I need to not get lost when I come home when I am going out and about. LOL I forgot to tell my oldest son before he came over this weekend and he almost went by the house.

Lil-Vixen...I learned a good lesson when we bought our windows.
When we were children, our family's house had the type of windows where the screen covered the whole windows.
We bought windows that have the screens only on the bottom pane.
Well, Now I know why the older windows have the whole window screens.
We used to open up the top and bottom panes on the old windows so the cool air can come in the bottom and the warm air go out the top.
The newer windows with the bottoms screen only, you can't open up the top pane as the screen is under that pane !
If I ever get new windows, I will get the old type (whole window screen)
Yes, you can't tilt out for easy cleaning, but we took off the screens in the winter and put them back on in the spring. We would wash all the outside of the windows before putting the screens back on. Love the idea of air circulation ! Maybe It's just me ! :}

I'm planning on having all of my windows changed to a more economical ones which will probably be pretty costly because I have a total of 35 sets of windows in my house. I want to get double-pane that can let down for easy cleaning. Contacting several contractors to get a quote.

Happy belated birthday, Cathy.

Barb, that was a very pretty flower "cake" arrangement.

I hadn't been able to find a good time to get over to Mom's house to visit, hadn't been shopping for a card, and then found out that it was too late for me to order flowers because the deliveries are now 2 weeks out. So, I decided to drive over and spend the night on Friday and take her some of my garden starts for her raised bed. She's moving into a house that she's had as a rental, so will have a place for a small garden again. I took a granddaughter with me and we worked some compost into her beds and removed weeds and old iris and daffodil bulbs and then planted her veggies. She said she liked that a lot better than a floral arrangement, anyway.

We've got rain today through Thursday, so I'm not sure how much we'll be able to do outside. We have a meeting with the realtor on Wednesday to see if we can get the house on the market even though we have a few things pending. Time to get vicious about purging and cleaning, though.

Barb, what a lovely cake picture. Thank you! No wonder your mom would break down on that day---We women do do most of the work to make that day special and so not fair when it is also your birthday when one should be able to sit back and relax.
It's Monday---i sure hope they finish up today and get all this stuff out of my yard! Bet the grass and weeds are all dead up front where the stuff has been piled.---grrrrrr!

Happy Mother's Day!

and Happy Birthday to Cathy!
Cathy, my Mom's birthday was on Christmas Day. She always hated it too but she made sure we remembered to give her double the presents, lol. Unfortunately she was always so exhausted from Christmas prep & dinner prep that she usually had an emotional breakdown in the afternoon.

Have a great day everyone!

Thank you, Patti! As a kid I hated when my birthday fell on Mother's day and guess what, I still do! LOL this year is not a great year for it to happen on either!
Chris, want to come clean mine? I still need to do the living room deep clean and finish the kitchen and the laundry area.
They didn't come to finish---I was kind of glad to get the break. One of the head guys is coming to figure out what to do about the back door issue---It definitely cannot be done the way the others were because we can't open the door the whole way and that is not going to happen. That is the only way to get in or out appliances if they need to be replaced. I also want him to see the front porch mess and tell him about their carelessness with my plants. I can understand the ones by the house but not on the ones that are not by the house.
Turkey and dressing was so good yesterday. Only had enough left for 4 packets to freeze. Kept out enough scraps to make myself some turkey soup this week.
I did see 2 of my sons yesterday, probably won't hear from the other. So I might just go get myself an ice cream treat today.
Happy Mother's day to all!

I had a contractor come out and repair a leak in my roof, and he did make a horrible mess, but he also cleaned it all up. I didn't have to worry about any cleanup after he left.

They finally did the porch---thankfully it was nice enough for me to go outside as the banging in the house was just too much for me. I pulled some weeds and then walked down to the market and got a tomato and some strawberries. They didn't have the tomato plant I wanted but they did tell me where I might find it so we will head there next week when it is a bit warmer and we can get out our driveway. They said they were coming back today to finish but no sign of them yet but I think they have more than half a day's work left. I am not going to have the soffit at the back door---they put up a board to attach it and we can't open the back door all the way now---so that has to come down---I am okay not having it there---we can always paint that small area white if we want to but the back part is an add on so the roof line is low there.
I have a turkey in the oven---very cool day here so perfect for that---then I can freeze up packets for us to have this summer as a change of pace from our regular meals. The house will start to smell good shortly.

I agree, Chris.
I sure hope the house is finished today. These guys have stuff all over the yard and have not been careful with my flower beds. Went up front after they left to view the soffit that they had gotten done yesterday and found that they had put my flag pole on top of my pansies---I was not happy about that. And they have not been careful around my flower beds by the house either. I will be commenting about that at the end. They still haven't put the siding inside the porch yet. We signed the contract to have the house part inside the porch as part of it but not any other part of the porch---I will paint those areas--It will be done or I will not sign off on it. Tired of the mess around my yard---they have not been very neat in keeping their stuff together. The house looks a lot different---I do like that. They are usually here by now but not today.
Going to be a cold 2 nights here so I will be covering my veggies----we have a lot of cat litter bins that Dh has been saving so we will take the tops off and put them over---and I think leave them over them all day tomorrow as it won't be very warm then either---hoping that will be the end of having to worry about that.

Absolutely! these things going on is an absolute power grab, violating all our constitutional rights. You are also correct about the immunity. Our bodies build immunity by being exposed to things, i would venture to guess that most of us have already been exposed and are asymptomatic. Live free or die, that's what our founders fought for

The thing is that we are not building up any immunity by being quarantined. We just got the news that we won't go back to school. Sure hope we can in the Fall. I want to earn my pay and I need to work at least one more year for retirement benefits.
At least today is Sunny---yesterday was just dark and drizzly all day. We had to turn our heat back up ---like Chris I am ready for the cold to be over and this nonsense to end. Let me make my own choices on where to go and whether I wear a mask or not.

I agree that there is a lot of false information out there about the COVID-19, especially on Facebook and the news. People have to understand that the only information that they really need to be listening too is the information for people who know what they are talking about. Why would you listen to somebody that's telling you to drink disinfectant to clean the virus out of your system. And can you believe it that people were actually calling poison control centers to see if it was okay for them to do this. We are talking about grown folks thinking about swallowing disinfectant because someone (don't have to say the name because if you watch the news then you know who i'm speaking off), said it was okay to do this. That was just plain irresponsible for that person to say something like that. Then had the nerve to say it was a joke. What type of person would joke about something as serious as COVID-19.

I agree. Not all regions are the same and shouldn't all be locked down tight. I just had a long discussion with a couple of my kids on this subject this morning. They are of opposing opinions and I'm somewhere in the middle between them--but it was a good discussion and gave everyone something to think about.

Are you talking about the COVID virus or do you have a cold and virus, Chris? I hope you aren't ill and are just complaining about the cold weather. As for the "other virus" that's causing the national lockdown...I'm about "over it" too.

We stayed up too late last night and slept in a little bit this morning. It looks like it's going to be a really nice day, so we should be able to get some work done outside. Not sure if we'll work here or out at the ranch on my garden. (I'm voting for the garden!)

I'm back----did my "work" for the day---LOL---attended a virtual meeting that has nothing to do with me and checked my school email---but at least I am getting paid.
Chris, I used to have a wonderful neighbor like that. We surely do miss having him next door to us. He did plumbing, fixing cars, lawn mowers, built our deck, took care of unwanted creatures, etc. You are truly blessed.
Really ready to do something different. It was so nice this weekend to do outdoor work but this week isn't going to be good for that. Lots of banging going on here with the installation of siding to our house. Sometimes I want to tell them to get in sync with their hammering---LOL

Terri, you need to read them the kid's book about what happens if you don't help. Gosh, wish I could remember the name---but it is a good book about sharing the workload if you want any of the results. I hope the kids like the cucamelons that I sent you. I have only planted 3 of the ones but they sure are slow growers at first. I had to be really careful when I planted them this weekend.
Gotta go to a meeting!

Great neighbors like that are GOLDEN, Chris! We've had a few in our life that have become just like family to us. Your rider ought to be in good shape for the season now, right?

Vixen, I did sleep well and wasn't too sore the next day. I went back out to the ranch to see what I could do and spent a lot of time just looking at it and laying it out in my mind. I think I know where I want the tomatoes and beans, but need to decide on the vining squash and melons that take up so much floor space, and the corn and potatoes. The kids are now requesting things, so they are getting excited about it, too. I wonder how excited they'll be later on when it's time to help?

my rider mower was tuned up last year by my great neighbor. As I cut his grass while he winters down south until he gets back up here. We it usually starts right up, or with a jump from my car. Which it did, went to cut yesterday and nothing! there was a rusty connection for the negative so we tried cleaning that up still nothing, I went to buy a new battery , still nothing ..... the neighbor that gave it a tune up just happened to be driving by and i waved him down, he stopped and checked some things, we wheeled it over to his yard and he did some diagnostic and found out it was a fuse that was blown. I happened to have one in the basement, changed it out, started right up! got the grass cut did his lot also. Blessed to have such great neighbors!

We got a lot done yesterday and I was so happy! Steve and the boys got the last of the wooden posts cemented in and most of the metal T-posts between them. Adam had a gate that will work for one section (a "man gate") and I think has another gate for the last section that will be a drive-thru gate wide enough for the tractor to go through if we need to get up to that area.

I ran Adam's rototiller for about 4 hours and my forearms were so sore I could barely move them. That was a bucking, vibrating torture machine! We went to dinner at DS1's house when we got home and I told them someone might have to feed me because I couldn't lift the fork! HA! Not really--but DS said he had some Arnica gel that works really well, and gave me some to rub into my arms. It really did help and I'm back to normal this morning. I don't think I could've typed this post last night! I used that tiller because Steve hadn't hooked up the big one he bought for his tractor yet and I was tired of waiting and wanted to get some soil turned--AND he had brought the tractor back to our house to dig the hole for the new septic tank. Well...after they were as far as they could go on the fence, he mentioned that the big rototiller attachment would also work on the farm tractor--WHAT?!!! So I told him to hook it up so I could see what it would do.

Unfortunately, I had to leave to take the grandsons home before he got it all hooked up, so I haven't seen it yet--but he said he made a few passes over the places that I had done with the small tiller and that it was amazing. So I'm going back out to the ranch this morning to start laying out my plot plan and may even plant a few seeds just to get something into the ground. The fence isn't complete yet, so I won't set out any transplants, but will plant potatoes and some garlic and seeds. It's late for garlic but I don't care!

Here's a few pictures of what I did yesterday. This was a big pasture that DS kept his horses on last year. It was formerly used to grow grass for hay, so the ground is very grassy and now compacted from the horses, so it was hard to break through with the smaller tiller. It took about 4 passes to really get it turned.

That's gd Clara there to give some perspective.

Steve said he went over these same patches with his big tiller and that it "fluffed it up like a pillow"! I can't wait to see it.

Barb, I think I did get some looks while driving that load home! I had to pull it right through the middle of town. But I guarantee you that I wasn't looking at other people's reactions! I was too busy watching the road and my mirrors to make sure I stayed between the lines!

Vixen , what a story but I believe it---these creatures can be a pain.
Barb, hope you find a home for that yarn or wool. Little by little getting things done is good too.
Terri, how much did you get done?
We got lots of gardening done on Saturday---should have broken it up more but the weather has not been very cooperative, so we did more than we should have in one day. I went by the greenhouses yesterday---last day---and Jerry gave me 3 flats of vinca---that 's 96 plants---but some might not make it -- I think he had them outside and it is too cool for them now---so I will baby them and give them some fertilizer---really can't plant them until after the 20th here if it ever warms up. It is going to be cooler this week than March was---crazy! I also got a flat----only 8---of a perennial---forget the name of it at the moment----but I need to wait to plant them because the siding installation is starting today and no need of planting where the guys will have to worry about damaging them.
I have a creature story for you. We used to live in a trailer and my dh had built a screen door for the back door which opened out. Luckily I had hooked it as it was evening. I heard a noise back there and went to investigate---a possum was climbing the screen. I tried hitting it with a broom to dislodge it---that wasn't working so Dh headed to his shed to get a shovel or something. While he was heading there I started running hot water in the kitchen sink, filled a pot with it, and threw it on the underbelly of that possum. The underbelly has very little hair and that scalded it---He did get off the screen door then but left a pile of poop at the bottom because I did scare the sh** out of him with the hot water---LOL You can believe I kept that door hooked all the time after that.
It's Star Wars Day! May the 4th be with you!

Never had a possum but we did have a raccoon in our garage last winter. Check out what happen.

My DH usually lets up the garage door and go outside to warm up the truck. The truck is outside because we only have a two car garage. That morning when he came back inside the house, he left the garage door open and a raccoon came inside the garage but we never new it.

When my husband came home from taking me to work, he raised up the garage and saw stuff all over the floor but he never thought that a raccoon was in the garage. Then he decided to look up and the raccoon had attached himself to the brackets that lets the garage up and down. So my husband tried letting the garage up and down to see if he could dislodge the raccoon, but it wouldn't let go. Our son-in-law was also at the house and heard the racket and decided to go outside to see what was the matter, and he saw the raccoon hanging onto the garage. Then my husband went inside to get his pellet gun to see if that would work, but it didn't. They tried spraying it with ammonia to see if that would make it fall down but he didn't fall down. So they decided to use the pellet gun and ammonia together, using the pellet gun and ammonia, the raccoon finally dropped down from the garage.

But instead of just running away, the stupid raccoon attached itself to the underside of my daughter's car to try to get away from the ammonia. So, my daughter and son-in-law jumps in the car and speeds down the street to try to dislodge the raccoon. It took them about 20 minutes going 40 miles an hour to get the raccoon to let loose of the underside of the car. I guess after 20 minutes of holding on to the hot underside of the car, he finally let loose and ran into someone else's yard. From this day, we don't know if the raccoon died that day or is still living.

You may find that hard to believe, but its a true story!

Anything I have to write is insignificant to what you all have going on!

Terri WOW! It's great that you have them looking out for you. The trailer is very impressive. Bet you get some looks. And I thought your list for one day was for a week, lol.

Cathy, you're so right about getting older and not having the energy for stuff. In our minds we do but our bodies are saying no. About the auto service centres, most have a courtesy service where they drop you off and pick you up when your vehicle is ready. I chose to walk because the weather is nice and I needed some exercise. It's only a 15 min walk.

I've been working on my decluttering for a long time. I am getting somewhere. I actually have space in my storage locker now. Unfortunately, when I sort a box, everything has to be pulled out and only half finds a home. I now have 7 empty boxes to give when someone wants them for moving so my place looks more cluttered than normal. The woman came and picked up the woollen blankets. Now I need to sell the 2 batts of wool since I will never get to the felting and dyeing I had planned when I bought them. I have too many hobbies and interests.

I participated in my online Shioki Yoga class on Sat morning. One hour long and I slept 2 hours this afternoon. It's not like any yoga I've done before. More like stretching, toning and strengthening. We do planks! I couldn't believe I did it. This on Wed (internet photo)

I found an explanation of what Shioki Yoga is on their FB page.
"Shioki Yoga is based on the traditional Hatha and the Japanese Okido yoga system. Our Yoga Therapy programs are a collaboration of these disciplines; specializing in yoga for sciatic pain, migraine head aches, whip lash and back injuries. We support a causal atmosphere by encouraging students to talk and laugh with each other. "

I forgot to tell you about my trip to the coast with that 20' trailer! I was nervous about getting that septic tank and strapping it down by myself, so called DS1 to ask if I could borrow a boy. He happened to have two that I could borrow, as DD1's son was visiting them for the week. He also asked if I could possibly pick up some hay for him and I told him I'd try.

So, we got the hay first and decided to lay it in a single layer and then put the septic tank on top of it (it's a plastic tank--not concrete). All the men said it would be fine--so that's what we did. When we got to the other place and the tank was loaded, the man in the office mentioned that my right rear tire looked a little low and said I should get some air in it before we headed home. It was a blessing that we were right across the street from the shop where we buy our tires, so I just drove over there and asked them to check my air pressure. Well...it wasn't just low--I had picked up a nail! The tire man assured me that it would be no problem at all to fix it right there and I didn't even have to unhook the trailer! In about 15 minutes, my tire was fixed and back on the car and he was waving me goodbye after saying, "no charge--have a safe trip home!" Here's what we looked like:

We've had some critters get into places that they shouldn't. Usually, they go out on their own, but sometimes one of the dogs will get them cornered and it turns into a big ordeal. Glad you got him out without much trouble, Chris. Bet son will pay closer attention to the door in the future--at least, I hope so. Next time it might be a skunk!

We're getting some rain this afternoon and everything is nice a wet now. We still have a couple of brush piles to burn and this rain is just what we needed for that. I think we'll go out to the ranch tomorrow and try to get the last of the fence posts in the ground for my garden and I'll run the rototiller for a while. The corner posts and gate posts are wooden and will be cemented into the ground at a distance of about 50 feet apart, with metal T-posts between them. Once the concrete cures for a few days, we'll stretch the wire and hang the gates and I will be in business! I hope to plant a few seeds while out there tomorrow and create a plot map so I know what varieties are where. I have some potatoes to plant without worry for the deer yet. By the time they're coming up, the fence will be up. I always have plans for more than I can realistically do in one day, but one can dream...

Chris, so glad you got him out of your basement without too much of a problem. That would have been scary to know he was down there.
Barb posted on the old chat about taking her van in for maintenance. Around here, you can call the place and they come and get your vehicle and bring it back to you. If you drop it off, they do not want you staying there any more. Is it the same in your areas?
Sunny and a bit warmer for the weekend so we will get the veggie beds ready and I will transplant the pots into there.
