We are thinking of going to the fair around my birthday which is September 3 and my boyfriends is September 2. I will have to stay away from all the fattening foods though. I do like to people watch and play the games, and we are not much for the rides.

We will see what happens.

I love the fair and always have. I used to like the midway best but since getting large I don't fit in any normal seats. None of the people I go with now do rides so it's more food. My daughter, Bailey, and I went two years ago and went from one cheese curd place to the next. But that was the only food we ate. So far nobody wants to go with me and I don't have a car. I might just take the bus.

My husband and I are going to the fair tomorrow. I have some ideas in my head on what my food plans are going to be. I love the frozen grapes, fresh fruit, vegie pizza (not the best but it beats a pepperoni slice). I'm going to allow myself to try a few new things but my husband usually eats most of those so that definately helps! emoticon

We walk all over the fair and spend all day there so I am going to count some that walking as exercise!

I am super excited about the fair! I don't usually have too much of a problem with the food since I don't particularly care for most of it, but those sweet martha's cookies get me every time. I am going to make sure and share them though. Share them with LOTS of people!

I guess since I joined SP I don't really crave as much as I used to and I def. am much more aware of how many calories I am consuming and how long it takes to get rid of just a simple 100. As long as I stay strong I don't think I will go out of control, I worry I will resort to the old me, but I guess I've gotten past that point.
Not to mention I fill up much faster and I pace myself, plus drink lots of water... so in all I guess I should be fine... we'll see... emoticon

One of the reasons I joined was so that I could go to the fair again. The last 2 years, I have had an asthma-like condition made worse by a weight gain. Going to the fair was just out and I really miss seeing all the quilts and knitting projects, among other things. I need to get in shape so that I can BREATHE while walking around the fair.

I'm actually really good about eating at the fair. I get 2 Pronto Pups, a large brownie and plenty of milk from the milk truck. Once in a while I will buy something else, but I've been sticking to my favorites. There are other things I'd like to try, but since I go to the fair by myself, there is nobody to share it with and it is too many calories to eat by myself.

I had actually just started Sparkpeople when I went to the State Fair last year. (The only picture I have on my Sparkpage is from the Fair, too--I will have to take a picture this year!) I ended up having lefse, strawberries and cream, and having a few of the World's Greatest French Fries that I shared with my mom on one day. The second day (I live right by the Fairgrounds--lucky me?) I had a salmon wrap and slice of cheese pizza. I got to eat mostly healthy, and I actually enjoyed the healthier items much more than the greasy ones! I am going to look for more healthy options this year.

Last year I missed the fair. It was the first time in my whole life that I didn't go. I was so bummed. We were moving and I had to work for the RNC. My brother did end up bringing home some cheese curds for me though!

I plan on eating/sharing with my hubby on whatever we decide. I don't beat myself up if there is a day where I eat badly. I can't do that anymore.

Sharing is absolutely the best way to go. I love the cheese curds, but after a couple of bites, you can just feel all that grease sitting in your stomach. Yech! I can't imagine eating all of it. I do try to eat some "good" things too. I'm slightly allergic to strawberries, but if I don't have any for a month before and a month after, I can have the strawberries and cream at the State Fair!

I decide ahead of time what favorite foods are that I want to have and limit myself to those and nibble on one of my husband's cheese curds. Sharing with others is a great way to get a taste of something and sometimes that is all we need to be happy.

Aren't you glad the fair only happens once a year. I love the State Fair! And am so glad that you brought this up. You're already taking a postive step by planning for this, but don't over-obsess about it. I have my list of must eats (or I feel neglected): Corn on the cob, Gyros (both breakfast foods when I go to the fair), Tiny Tim donuts, 2 corn dogs (1 corn dog and 1 pronto pup) and fries from the French Fry stand. All items are loaded with fat and calories.
I'm not sure if you're exercising already, but try adding extra days of exercise each week before, during and after the fair. And drink a lot of water during and a couple days after attending the fair (10- 8oz glasses/day)Water helps flush fat; and decreasing sugars and starches after the fair is probably a good idea too.

I allow myself to go, but decide in my head how many things I am allowed to eat when I go. I always have to have cheese curds and sweet martha's cookies. After that I am generally satisfied and can usually find something healthy (fresh fruit)if I find myself still hungry.

I didn't go last year, I had tickets to Toby Keith's concert but ended up sick in the hospital instead. I hope to go this year!

Try and share things to help reduce some of the calories. Plus all the walking helps! I always eat breakfast before I go so I am not starving when I arrive. I have to eat my pronto pup, and if somebody will share some deep fried pickles then I will get those as well. I limit how much cash I carry also, then I do not need to worry about buying too much yummy state fair food.

I'm well aware that it's only June and the fair is not until the end of August, but I was just wondering how to go about attending the fair. I love to wait all year to try all the fattest foods in the world but this will be my 1st year on SP, I dunno if I should skip it or just let myself have the day to splurge? What are you gonna do? emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
