Oooo I was just reading an article in Wired about the vibram shoes. They look really... cool! But weird.

I just ran into an old acquaintance (knew him from a long time ago...he's still in his 40s so he's not THAT old), and he had on the funky barefoot shoes that looked like toe socks made of silicone or rubber. I thought they looked pretty strange, but he said he really liked them. He's a massage therapist/instructor, and I think he briefly went to naturopathic school, so he's an alternative healthcare kind of guy, so that he would have these kind of shoes and sing their praises made sense to me. My guess is that chiropractors might have something to say about them, too. So maybe my two cents aren't that helpful, but that's all I've got.

I've done it before, I can do it again!

I guess my reasoning was that I had seen articles supporting both sides of the debate and so I was looking for word or mouth to supplement. I will read your two articles though, too. Thanks!

I will try my beach shoes for foot protection in lieu of total barefoot.

Another interesting citation. www.sportsci.org/jour/0103/mw.htm

It is called WORK-ing out for a reason.

I said getting fit was simple, I did not say it was easy.

Cardio burns calories, strength work burns fat.

Eat well to lose weight, exercise to get fit

You can not build a six pack using twelve packs

Often when we seek a magic bullet for fitness we end up shooting ourselves in the foot.

Many running shoe manufacturers are now making a version of this style of show, Vibram makes one with toes which you can see and try on at Midwest Mounainerring.

This is a very interesting read on the topic which flies directly in the face of the mantra "make sure you go to a running shoe store and get the proper shoes. The article cites research in the UK stating cheap shoes cause fewer injuries. Interesting what you can find when you do research instead of depending on word of mouth. neuroanthropology.net/2009/07/26/los

How wonderful you found a great pair of shoes like that. I had not heard of them until your post so I looked them up online. Unfortuantely for me I have long feet (size 12) and they don't come in my size.

They sound great. Enjoy those shoes!

I just bought myself some barefoot shoes, specifically Terra Plana Vivo Barefoot shoes. I love them so far! I can stand and walk all day at work without pain, they're excellent for biking, and when I was on vacation last week, I did a stair stepper routine in them without my usual problem of my feet going numb.
Does anyone else use barefoot shoes? Or have any thoughts on them? I've heard they're better for your feet but I've also heard that you need arch support. Thoughts?
