I was born in 1939 and was around during the 50's and while I don't know all the latest I think I'm keeping up pretty well.

I think it would be the pace of life caused by universal technological contact. I remember the 1964 World's Fair where technology was portrayed as enabling us to have more leisure. In reality we are now expected to pack more and more into every day because, with technology, we can.

What a provocative question!
I think it would have to do with technology---you could easily explain the rise of terrorism (Hitler would have been fresh in mind) and you could also explain the increase in women's rights and civil rights in general.

So it would have to be the computer in general and in particular perhaps the mammoth entity that is Facebook.

I know from 99yr old Uncle Jack's many questions that explaining how the internet works is nearly impossible. I've given up trying and tell him to just consider it magic.

If someone from the 1950's appeared today what would be the most difficult thing to explain about life today?
