It doesn't help us to be that way. I think that it IS normal to lack self-esteem, if "normal" is defined by how most people are.

#1: You are not alone!

However, I think that we don't want to be normal. We want to be EXCELLENT!! We want to be OUTSTANDING!! And recognizing poor self-talk is the first step in stopping it!

#2: STOP your negative talk. Recognize it and see it for how damaging it is... Just don't start berating yourself for it.

#3: Mend yourself with 3 good thoughts for each negative.

Positive thoughts really do build on themselves. It may feel a little awkward at first, or you might not feel like you deserve praise. But you do!! We all do!!

I do the same thing. I have been trying to recognize the behavior and put a stop to it. When I was a kid to protect myself I would make fun of my weight first so the laughter would be out of the way and no one had the power to hurt me. But then, I started doing it all the time. Just recently I noticed I even call myself names. All it does is make me sad and run and go eat cookies or chips. Then I get mad at myself and then my mood is way down in the dumps.

The other day, I heard my skinny friend calling herself a stupid out of shape girl. She said to herself that just because she was skinny gave her no excuse not to be phycially fit and then she started throwing stuff in her locker and complaining about stairs making her tired and not being able to walk long distances. And I thought, Wow, is this a woman thing? Is it natural for all of us to be unsatisfied with our health and fitness? I'm beginning to think we are our own worst enemies. emoticon

There is no one better than yourself to bring you down...I am so guilty of this! I think it comes from being overweight for so many years that feeling depressed has become the norm for me...so, what is normal?
