Hello to all of you superb Sparkpeople members. The new year is here.

I have been keeping myself occupied with work and side hustles. When I wake up it is dark outside. When I go to bed it is dark outside. When is the time change ever going to get here?

Instead of drinking my favorite diet lemon iced tea in my sports water bottle, I made a pitcher of unsweetened black iced tea. Tastes good for a change.

I may be quitting Sparkpeople. In 2015, I began Sparkpeople and weighed 170. It is now 2019 and I still weigh 170 pounds. I think I need to pursue different avenues. If you really want me to stay, tell me. If not, I really may have to go.

Have a good weekend.

My Christmas Dinner Alone

This year, I spent Christmas without my family.

My family's Christmas dinner tradition was always homemade spaghetti and a big garden salad.

My mother never taught me how to make homemade spaghetti. However, she did teach me how to make a mean pasta salad. So, what was I supposed to do for Christmas this year?

I made a big pasta salad.

Merry Christmas.

There was a 20th anniversary, updated edition from the author of Diet for a Small Planet, original copyright was 1971.

I agree with Denny! I don't really need another recipe book. I can find all the recipes I want here on the site and the nutrition information required. Plus I am retired and do not want to buy unnecessary things.

There is a thought...I do print a few of the recipes from here, so that may be helpful in the future.

If you put off till tomorrow what you could do today, can you trust yourself to do tomorrow what you couldn't bring yourself to do today?

If you need to decide - I say go for the cookbook - this way you don't have to print the recipes in order to do them...

Thank you for your sage words everyone. I am still on the fence about whether to buy either of the books.

*LADY IRISH - I love your picture of Alton Brown...that is totally awesome.

I have not bought either. All the resources I need are on line at this site. I have been with sparkpeople for 6 years - had much success .... and some failure at times. Valuable lessons learned! I know what works for me and am back on track for an absolute final and permanent life style change. I feel good about my healthy future. Without spark I would still be floundering along in my old "world of fat".

I've bought both. I still have to read The Spark, but I do like the cookbook.

"...there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for."

"We're children of a fighting race that never yet has known disgrace." (The Soldiers' Song, Irish national anthem)

"Every day above ground is a good day." (Chef Justin Kennedy of New Orleans, on Chopped)
