June 16, 2021 SEEK WISDOM

While we were growing up and in school, we learned from teachers and books. We learned how to read, write and spell. We also learned about other things in life from our parents and from our own mistakes. As we grew older, we became wiser about the ways of the world. We gained worldly wisdom by our experiences and our mistakes. Worldly wisdom is good for this world. However, we are to strive to grow in other areas as well.

We should also seek to learn godly or spiritual wisdom. A faithful servant of God seeks His wisdom. We can’t be faithful to God if we don’t seek His wisdom. We can learn worldly wisdom in worldly books; however, we can only learn spiritual wisdom from God. Our faith in God can teach us so much when we take time to study His word and step out to do His will. God tells us in His word that true wisdom is the fear of the Lord. When we recognize who God truly is and live to be His faithful servant, we can find the wisdom that only comes from Him.

SCRIPTURE:
Job 28:28 “And this is what he says to all humanity: ‘The fear of the Lord is true wisdom; to forsake evil is real understanding.’” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to seek godly wisdom.
2. List ways you put your faith in God during the day.
3. Know true wisdom comes from fearing God.
4. Seek ways to fear God all day long and put your faith in Him.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know in order to be faithful to You we need to seek spiritual wisdom. We can’t learn from this world about the right way to live because this world is full of sin. We can’t learn from other humans because their understanding and their wisdom is nothing like Yours. Only You can give us true godly wisdom. Help us to seek Your wisdom and keep our faith in You. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Proverbs 2:3-6 “Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God. For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” (NLT)

1 Corinthians 3:18 “Stop deceiving yourselves. If you think you are wise by this world’s standards, you need to become a fool to be truly wise.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Psalm 111:10 “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom. Praise him forever!” (NLT)

June 15, 2021 OUR WORST ENEMY

Sports, money, and other things of the world can consume us if we are not careful. We may get drawn into worldly things and stop thinking about what others need. We could possibly get so consumed with ourselves that we miss out on relationships. When we do things for selfish reasons, we end up living a lonely life. The longer we stay in that state of mind, the more burdened we will become. We were not created to be alone in this world. It may be hard to step out and put others first, but it is very rewarding.

We can’t have faith in God when we are living a selfish life. If we are trying to figure out things on our own believing we have all the answers, we will be sorely disappointed. When we are focused on our feelings or what others are doing (or not doing) to or for us, we are not focusing on God. How do we escape from ourselves when we have to live with ourselves every day? How do we move from the selfish mindset to a faith in God to help us from our own worst enemy? We are to pray for God to strengthen our faith in Him and trust Him to protect us – even from ourselves.

SCRIPTURE:
Psalm 91:1-2 “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write ways you may be focusing on yourself.
2. List ways you can allow God to put your focus on Him.
3. Know God wants your full attention.
4. Seek Him and His ways so you will know how to serve Him and help others.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we are so consumed by ourselves. At times, we don’t even realize the needs of those around us. Please forgive us, we pray. Please help us to turn from our selfish thoughts, words, and action and turn to You. We know living a selfish life is living a lonely life. We want to stop serving ourselves and start serving You. Help us to seek Your word and serve only You. Show us how to help others rather than constantly focusing on how to help ourselves. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
James 3:14-16 “But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don’t cover up the truth with boasting and lying. For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.” (NLT)

Philippians 2:3 “Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
1 Corinthians 10:24 “Don’t be concerned for your own good but for the good of others.” (NLT)

June 14, 2021 FAIL TO FALL

Knowing the outcome of something ahead of time can help us make better decisions. If we know something bad is going to happen before we take the action or say the words, we may think twice before doing or saying anything. However, we don’t know the outcome of anything until it happens. We can’t predict the future or know how things are going to work out. So we have to make as good of a choice as we can and have faith we are doing the right things.

We can see the results of wrong decisions all around us. Just watching the news or scrolling through social media will show us those who are suffering because of the wrong decisions either they made or someone else did. However, there is hope. When we put our faith in God to help us make right choices, He will help us. When we pray in faith asking God to give us clarity and wisdom before we take action, we can succeed.

Our goal in life is to fail to fall into the temptations of sin which can move us into making wrong decisions. This fallen world is proof of wrong choices made. Let’s choose God and have faith He will lead us down the right path in life. When we go to God before making any decisions every day and faith He will answer, He can help us choose the right path.

SCRIPTURE:
Hebrews 12:13 “Mark out a straight path for your feet so that those who are weak and lame will not fall but become strong.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write about some godly choices you have made.
2. List ways the evil in this world can lead to wrong choices.
3. Know your choices in life should be pleasing to God.
4. Seek ways to help others to make faithful choices.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we are weak but You are strong. We are tempted yet Your word can turn us from temptations. We are living in a fallen world with many choices to make and no knowledge of the outcome. Help us, we pray, and direct our paths so we can know what to do and say. We want to be on guard so we are not fooled by those who want us to do wrong. Help us fail to fall into temptations. We want to trust in You and have faith as we follow Your ways. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
2 Peter 3:17 “You already know these things, dear friends. So be on guard; then you will not be carried away by the errors of these wicked people and lose your own secure footing.” (NLT)

Hosea 14:9 “Let those who are wise understand these things. Let those with discernment listen carefully. The paths of the Lord are true and right, and righteous people live by walking in them. But in those paths sinners stumble and fall.” (NLT)

Ephesians 5:6 “Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey him.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Proverbs 11:5 “The godly are directed by honesty; the wicked fall beneath their load of sin.” (NLT)

June 13, 2021 BE FILLED

It is probably safe to say we have all been full in our lives. We have eaten so much that we knew we could not possibly take another bite. Being full leaves us feeling satisfied. There is no need to eat anything else because we have been filled with good food that will nourish our bodies. The food we eat, if we eat the right things, will give us nourishment and strength. The right foods refresh us so we can continue on doing what we need to do.

We also should seek to be filled with the Spirit. This comes from our belief in Christ and our faith in God. When we call out to God, He will give us strength. He will refresh our relationships, faith and finances. When we put our faith in God, we allow Christ to fill our empty places. To be filled and satisfied spiritually means we are in God’s word and we have returned to the Bread of Life and the Living Water. We should ask God to allow His Holy Spirit to restore us to the joy of our salvation and renew our strength. Then we are to rely on Him in faith to fill us with all we need.

SCRIPTURE:
John 6:33-35 (Jesus said) “‘The true bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.’ ‘Sir,’ they said, ‘give us that bread every day.’ Jesus replied, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’” (NLT)

John 4:14 “But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to be filled spiritually.
2. List ways you can be renewed spiritually every day.
3. Know God wants you to be filled with all that He is.
4. Seek God to restore you and fill you with all you need.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we are so grateful we have You to fill us spiritually. When we are down, You fill us with hope. When we are sad, You fill us with joy. When we are lonely, You fill us when comfort. When we are weak, you strengthen us. You are the answer to all of our prayers and our needs. We thank You, Lord, for Your Living Water and Bread of Life that fills us like no one or nothing on this earth can. We put our faith in You to fill us, refresh us and restore us every day. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
1 Thessalonians 3:10 “Night and day we pray earnestly for you, asking God to let us see you again to fill the gaps in your faith.” (NLT)

1 Timothy 1:14 “Oh, how generous and gracious our Lord was! He filled me with the faith and love that come from Christ Jesus.” (NLT)

Jeremih 31:25 “For I have given rest to the weary and joy to the sorrowing.”

FOCUS:
Psalm 34:8 “Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!” (NLT)

June 12, 2021 A SENSE OF URGENCY

Many of us want to get things done yet we continue to put them off. We believe there is this indefinite amount of time in the future where we will get all things done. We put off doing what we need to do because we believe we have time to do it later. But do we? Why do we keep putting things off? Each of our reasons may differ but the results are the same. Things don’t get done.

We are told we don’t know the future and we don’t know how much time we have left. We know this to be true because we have lost loved ones and friends at all stages of life. We are all here for a purpose. We are here to serve and make a difference. The longer we put it off, the less time we have to do something. Let’s move with a sense of urgency and faith in God doing something today that will make a difference.

We need to have faith in God and not shrink back from obligations due to fear, low self-esteem or anything else. Excuses and fears will drive us away from what we should do. Faith helps us move forward trusting God to get us through each moment. As we begin to take action, our faith will grow. When we do nothing for whatever reason, our faith cannot grow and we remain stagnant as a believer.

SCRIPTURE:
Ephesians 5:15-20 “So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to live for God.
2. List the things you keep putting off.
3. Know God wants you to have faith and take action.
4. Pray asking God for direction and do something today.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we often don’t live with a sense of urgency to do Your will. We believe we have time. We believe there will be another day where the circumstances will be better. We make excuses and procrastinate. Help us, we pray, to do something today that is in line with Your will and Your purpose for us. We want to live with a sense of urgency doing Your will every day until we are Home with You. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Romans 13:11-12 “This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living.” (NLT)

1 Peter 4:7-8 “The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers. Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Job 7:9-10 “Just as a cloud dissipates and vanishes, those who die will not come back. They are gone forever from their home—never to be seen again.” (NLT)

June 11, 2021 THE GREATER GOOD

We have a few holidays every year where we honor those who have served for our country. They chose to use their skills and abilities to serve for those who they didn’t even know. They believed in a cause and a purpose to do things above and beyond to help our nation remain free. Their beliefs were strong and their sense of purpose kept them focused as they dealt with the hard things. They knew getting through adversity was needed to win and keep our nation free.

We may not have joined the service to use our talents and skills; however, we have opportunities to serve for a greater good every day. We all have skills and abilities to serve others even when it is hard or uncomfortable. When we step out in faith and do something that is above and beyond that will help others, we will have a sense of accomplishment. We will know that we have done something good for others. And when we do the little things, we will be given more opportunities to do even more.

SCRIPTURE:
Matthew 25:21 “The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to serve others.
2. List some talents and skills you have that would help someone.
3. Know God calls you to be a good and faithful servant.
4. Trust in God, step out of your comfort zone and help someone.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we are so grateful to have the talents and skills and abilities You give to us. We have opportunities every day to serve and to help others; however, we don’t always see them. Help us to see the opportunities You put before us and to go above and beyond to serve as You have called us to do. Give us strength to remain faithful serving others and obeying You. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Matthew 20:28 “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (NLT)

1 Peter 4:10 “God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Galatians 6:3 “If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important.” (NLT)

June 10, 2021 TO DIE FOR

Let’s be honest. There aren’t many things we are willing to die for. If we even feel threatened by something or someone, our first instinct is to run and hide. There was a familiar saying in the past stating that an outfit, hairstyle or some other worldly object was “to die for.” This meant they wanted it really bad because it would give them pleasure. However, in reality, we are not willing to die for many things or even many people.

On the flip side, we do have some who are willing to die for our country and our freedom. We have those who volunteer to step in and do dangerous work to help others. Some choose dangerous professions knowing death may occur but they are willing to make a sacrifice for a cause or for a person. Jesus was willing to die for us because of a greater good. He is our example to follow. Our faith should be strong enough to know that facing death with faith in God is what we may have to do as believers.

We must be willing to stand for God through difficult times and trust in Him. We may get physically hurt but God will not allow others to spiritually harm us. We may die but we will then have a new life. We are called to persevere in our suffering and have faith until death. God tells us to listen, understand and remember that despite what happens, He is still in control. Our role is to persevere and have faith…and to share His Good News with others…despite the sacrifice we have to make. We are to be the example.

SCRIPTURE:
Revelation 13:9-10 “Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand. Anyone who is destined for prison will be taken to prison. Anyone destined to die by the sword will die by the sword. This means that God’s holy people must endure persecution patiently and remain faithful.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write how you can be a godly example to others.
2. List ways you can step out with God in faith.
3. Know God wants you to do more than just exist on this earth.
4. Get into His word, pray and remember to put your faith into action.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we want to faithfully serve You. We know when we serve You that others may not agree with us. We know others may want to harm us. We know others may want to kill us. Help us to stay strong in our faith and continue to speak out for You and share Your word despite what others may say or do against us. We want to be an example to others by following the example of Jesus. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
1 Timothy 6:11b-12 “Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses.” (NLT)

1 John 3:16 “We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Philippians 2:17 “But I will rejoice even if I lose my life, pouring it out like a liquid offering to God, just like your faithful service is an offering to God. And I want all of you to share that joy.” (NLT)

June 9, 2021 ANYONE LISTENING?

We can make a request to someone and not really know if they will oblige or if they even heard us. We can ask for our food to be prepared a certain way at a restaurant and hope we get it cooked as ordered. We can ask for someone to provide us information about their company or service and hope they respond. We can ask a friend or family member to meet us somewhere or to do something for us, but they don’t follow through. We don’t always get answers from many of our requests of others.

However, there is someone who hears us when we make requests – if we go to Him in faith. Those who faithfully pray to God know He hears their prayers. God, alone, promises us if we ask for anything in His name, we will receive it. He tells us when we pray in faith, He will hear us and answer. We may not always know when the answer from God will come or what the outcome will be; however, we can know He promises He will hear us and He will answer at just the right time.

SCRIPTURE:
Matthew 21:22 “You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write how others have let you down.
2. List what God says about those who pray in faith.
3. Know God hears those who have faith in Him.
4. Have faith and pray knowing God will hear your request.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we are so grateful that You promise to hear us when we pray in faith to You. We know You want us to truly believe You will hear us and You will answer. Help us to remember what You have written in Your word. Help us remember we are to pray with faith. Help us remember Your promises to hear and to answer. Thank You, Lord, for listening and for answering our prayers. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Jude 1:20-21 “But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love.” (NLT)

James 5:15 “Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven.” (NLT)

Matthew 7:7 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Mark 11:24 “Everything you ask for in prayer will be yours, if you only have faith.” (CEV)

June 8, 2021 MATTERS OF THE HEART

We can tell what others really care about by listening to them talk and watching what they do. Over time, we can learn what matters most to them. What matters most to some may not matter to others. However, we all have something we care about deeply and desire or long for. That is what is hidden in our hearts. Whatever is hidden in our hearts guides us. Our deep desires come from our hearts. Even those who seem heartless have something in the hearts driving them to be that way.

Faith is a matter of the heart. When we believe in God and have faith in Him, He works in our hearts to show us how to be more like His Son, Jesus. When we pray with open hearts, we can hear what God wants us to hear. When we read His word, we can get a glimpse of God’s heart and know what is most important to Him. When we trust in the Lord with all our heart, we will see our faith grow and our hearts commit to God’s desires for our lives. God will strengthen our heart and give a responsive heart that truly cares about Him and the needs of others. We should strive for a heart of faith.

SCRIPTURE:
Romans 10:9-10 “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write how you seek what is important to God.
2. List ways God can strengthen your heart.
3. Know God wants you to connect with Him using your heart.
4. Trust in God with all your heart and put your complete faith in Him.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we are so grateful we have You to work in our hearts. You can do things for our hearts that no one else can. We open our hearts up to You asking You to make them responsive to hearing You. We commit our hearts to You to teach us how to follow only You and obey You. We put our trust and faith in You, Lord. Condition our hearts to do all You created us to do. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Ezekiel 36:26 “And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.” (NLT)

2 Chronicles 16:9 “The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.” (NLT)

June 7, 2021 THE POWER OF OUR MINDS

In this out of control world, there is one thing we can control. We can control what we think. No one else can control what we think unless we allow them to. We have the ability to control our thoughts when we can’t really control everything or anyone else. The power of our minds is something we may not always think about. However, we have the ability to control our minds choosing faith or fear.

When destruction happens, we can choose to be afraid or to be brave. We can choose to have faith in God or follow the ways of the world. We can master our faith in God when we master our thoughts. Right thoughts can strengthen our faith just as wrong thoughts can weaken our faith. When we fill our minds with God’s word, we will grow in faith knowing He is all we need.

SCRIPTURE:
Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (ESV)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write ways you exercise your mind to have more faith.
2. List Scripture you can fill your mind with to help you.
3. Know God wants you to fill your mind with good things.
4. Remember you can control what you think to help you have faith in God.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we often don’t use the power in our minds to do what You call us to do. We allow doubt and fear to creep into our minds and keep us from faithfully following You. There is no excuse for us to give our minds over to this world. There is no reason we should allow the things of the world to consume us and scare us into doing what the world wants us to do. You tell us to fill our minds with Your word so we can grow in faith. Help us, Lord, and allow Your Holy Spirit to teach us how to better control our minds so we can grow in faith. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
1 Samuel 12:24 “But be sure to fear the Lord and faithfully serve him. Think of all the wonderful things he has done for you.” (NLT)

Colossians 2:7 “Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Proverbs 23:7a “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” (NKJV)

June 6, 2021 GIVE FAITHFULLY

There is a truth about giving that many people overlook. If we are in need of something – money, love, friendship, etc. – we shouldn’t go out looking for who can give it to us. We should go out and find someone and give what we already have in those areas. There are so many who are less fortunate than us. When we give faithfully to others, we will be blessed. It is the rule of reciprocation meaning whatever we give, we get more of in return.

The Bible tells us this as well. In fact, we are to give the first of what we have to God as a sign that we love and trust Him. We are to give faithfully no matter what. Giving faithfully to God shows Him we put Him first in our lives. It shows Him we care enough to obey Him and we remember all we have is a blessing from Him and belongs to Him anyway. Faithful givers will receive many blessings from God. God promises when we share with others, we will always have what we need.

SCRIPTURE:
Luke 6:38 “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.” (NLT)

2 Corinthians 9:7-8 “You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. ‘For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.’ And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write ways you give back to God.
2. List what firsts you should be giving to Him.
3. Know God wants the first of your time, tithe and talents.
4. Remember God commands you to give.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we read about so many people who put You first in the Bible and gave You the firsts of what they received. All we have belongs to You and when we acknowledge that through our tithing, we are remembering You and Your promises. Giving back the first of our time means spending time with You every morning. Giving back the first of our talents means using them to help others and teaching them what we know in that area. Giving back the first of our finances means we tithe as a thank You for all You have blessed us with. And we do thank You, Lord. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Nehemiah 10:35 “We promise to bring the first part of every harvest to the Lord’s Temple year after year—whether it be a crop from the soil or from our fruit trees.” (NLT)

Acts 20:35 “And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Matthew 10:42 “And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded.” (NLT)

June 5, 2021 HAVE NO FEAR

Some fears are hidden in our subconscious minds. We may not even understand fear is holding us back from doing what we need to do. There are many things we could be afraid of and not even realize that we are. We could fear loss of income, being criticized, getting sick, losing a loved one, death, etc. It is common to think about these things but not to the point of it paralyzing us from getting things done.

We should replace fear with faith. When we are too afraid to take action, that is what immobilizes us to do the will of God. God tells us throughout His word that we are not to be afraid. We are to trust in Him. We are to have faith in Him but we sometimes focus too much on the fear and not the faith. If we find we are not doing something we know we need to do, we should ask God to reveal to us what fears may be hidden in our minds. Then we can move past the fear and step out in faith keeping our eyes on Jesus.

SCRIPTURE:
Hebrews 11:27 “It was by faith that Moses left the land of Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger. He kept right on going because he kept his eyes on the one who is invisible.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what things you fear.
2. List people you are afraid of.
3. Know God wants you to have faith and not fear.
4. Keep your eyes on Jesus and do not be afraid.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know fear can paralyze us. We can get so wrapped up in what could happen that we don’t do anything. Some of us are afraid to leave our homes. Others of us fear health or financial problems. Many of us are afraid of what others may think about us. Help us, Lord, by removing our fears so we can better focus on You and Your will. We want to have faith – not fear. Allow Your Holy Spirit to help us grow in our faith every day, we pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Hebrews 12:1-2a “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.” (NLT)

Hebrews 11:23 “It was by faith that Moses’ parents hid him for three months when he was born. They saw that God had given them an unusual child, and they were not afraid to disobey the king’s command.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Mark 5:36 “But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, ‘Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.’” (NLT)

June 4, 2021 NOT FEELING IT

We have probably all had days when we just weren’t feeling it. We woke up and didn’t feel like going to work or school. We didn’t feel like going to a meeting or class. We didn’t feel like working out, eating right, helping a neighbor, saying a kind word, etc. We often act on our feelings and believe that to be a good excuse not to do something we should. Now more than ever before, people are acting on how they feel and expect everyone around to them to cater to their feelings. However, that is just not how life works.

If we look at those in the past who have done great things, we will quickly learn these people did many things without feeling it. They did what they did out of faith. They moved past their feelings and took control of what needed to be done and did it. They didn’t spend all their energy on being offended or talking about their feelings. They just took action.

When we only do what we feel like doing, we aren’t acting in faith. God doesn’t want us to go through life doing only what we feel like doing. God wants us to have faith in Him and do things that we don’t feel like doing. We see examples in the Bible of those who did things despite how they felt and we see those who didn’t do what they should have based on their feelings. We can read about the outcomes of both and know that we need to take action in faith and not based on our feelings.

SCRIPTURE:
Galatians 6:9-10 “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do based on your feelings.
2. List what God’s word says you should do.
3. Have faith in God and not in your feelings.
4. Know God can help you when you are not feeling it.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know we do so many things based on our feelings. Even this world caters to many who feel a certain way about things. We know that our feelings are not the right way to measure what we should be doing. We know we are to turn to You and Your word for the right path to take. Help us, Lord, to recognize when we are taking action based on our feelings and to turn from them and turn to You so we can do what is right. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Romans 7:24-25 “Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.” (NLT)

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
2 Corinthians 5:7 “For we live by believing and not by seeing.” (NLT)

June 3, 2021 ACTIONS OF FAITH

Every time we get into a vehicle, we are placing our faith in that vehicle to get us where we want to go. Every time we go to the store and make a purchase, we have faith our debit card will work so we can buy what we need. We put our faith daily in things and in others. We rely on people we don’t even know to do their jobs so we can have the luxuries we have such as water, power, food, etc. If we didn’t have faith in the unknown, we wouldn’t be blessed with so many gadgets that make our lives easier. We don’t think or speak about this faith. We just take action knowing what we have will work when we use it.

Our daily actions show we have faith in another day. Otherwise, we would be hiding out in a cave never wanting to come out. But do our actions show we have faith in God? When we truly have faith in God, we will step out and do things where we don’t know what the outcome will be. We will stop playing it safe living as this world lives, but instead step out in faith sharing the word of God and giving to those in need. When we step out in faith, we can share our faith with others in both our words and actions. If we want to truly live an obedient life for God, our actions should show we have faith in Him.

SCRIPTURE:
Hebrews 11:33-34 “By faith these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions, quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight.” (NLT)

James 2:14 “What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?’ (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write about what actions show you have faith in God.
2. List ways you can take even more actions of faith.
3. Know God wants you to trust in Him and step out in faith.
4. Take action with faith in God and share your faith with others.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we want to act like we belong to You. We want to take actions of faith knowing You are in control. We want to step out showing others we believe and trust in You. Help us to produce good deeds by working through us and using us to do Your will. We want to be right with You in all we do. Show us ways, Lord, to produce actions of faith. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
James 2:17 “So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.” (NLT)

Philemon 1:6 “And I am praying that you will put into action the generosity that comes from your faith as you understand and experience all the good things we have in Christ.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
James 2:24 “So you see, we are shown to be right with God by what we do, not by faith alone.” (NLT)

June 2, 2021 BE CONSISTENT

If we want to become stronger physically, we have to be consistent about building our muscles. If we want to build a business or start a hobby, we have to consistently study and work toward those goals. Being consistent with anything isn’t easy but it is necessary to succeed. If we just doing things occasionally and expect great results, we will be disappointed. Consistency is key to succeeding in life.

When we have consistent faith in God, He will give us abilities to do great things. When we go to Him for strength and courage in all things, He will help us to continue doing His will. God can help us overcome fears, doubts and hesitations. When we put our faith in God, we trust Him in all things. Having faith in God will help us continue to do His will and give us peace knowing we are living in obedience to Him.

SCRIPTURE:
1 Peter 1:13-15 “So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do on a regular basis.
2. List ways you can be consistent spending time with God.
3. Know your faith will grow stronger when you are consistent.
4. Pray daily, read God’s word and remain consistent in doing His will.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we have faith in You. We want to consistently show others how we trust in You by our words and our actions. We want to consistently pray and read Your word so our faith will grow. We know we can’t half do anything well. We have to be consistent. Give us the desire and the motivation to create a daily routine to spend time with You and help us to grow in our faith as we obey and draw closer to You. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
James 1:6 “But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.” (NLT)

Romans 4:20 “Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Psalm 119:5 “Oh, that my actions would consistently reflect your decrees!” (NLT)

June 1, 2021 BELIEVE IN THIS

It’s really hard to believe in anything nowadays. We hear so much controversy and so many lies. However, we all believe in something. Our beliefs cause us to do certain things. Our beliefs come from our experiences, our upbringing and what we have learned in life. We can change our beliefs but we have to make a conscious decision to do so. Whatever we choose to believe in becomes a part of us.

If we believe we aren’t going to succeed in life, we won’t. However, if we believe every day we are getting better and better learning more about how we can grow and develop toward success, then we will begin to find things that will help us. Whatever we choose to fill our minds with will either lead us to a successful path in life or an unsuccessful one. If we want to believe in something good, then we have to fill our minds with good things. God’s word is good. When we begin to fill our minds with His word, we will begin to believe in Him and know He has good plans for us and He is all we need.

SCRIPTURE:
Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” (NLT)

Hebrews 13:7 “Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and follow the example of their faith.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you believe in.
2. List reasons you believe these things.
3. Remember it is important to believe God’s word.
4. Fill you mind with His word and know He is all you need.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know when we believe in the things of this world we will be disappointed. We know believing in anyone or anything other than You is wrong. We can’t even rely on our own minds to help us. We need You. Help us remember Your word every day and believe only in it. We believe in Your word and know it is powerful. We believe when we fill our minds with Your word, You will help us in all we do. Thank You, Lord, for Your word. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Romans 8:6 “So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.” (NLT)

Philippians 4:8 “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Colossians 3:2 “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” (ESV)

May 31, 2021 FOLLOW THE RULES

There are many messages we need to really pay attention to. We have signs on the road to help us drive safely. There are laws to obey to help keep order in this world. There are rules at work and at home. When we listen to and follow the rules, things tend to work out much better for all. However, if we choose to listen but not obey, that is when chaos begins.

God has laws and rules for us to learn about and adhere to. There are many written throughout His word. The greatest and most important is the call for salvation. Many hear it and don’t respond. When that happens, the consequences are far greater than not following the rules of the world. God tells us the wages of sin is death. We can choose now to listen to and to follow God so we can have eternal life.

SCRIPTURE:
2 Corinthians 6:2 “For God says, ‘At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.’ Indeed, the ‘right time’ is now. Today is the day of salvation.’” (NLT)

Romans 13:12 “The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to better know God’s word.
2. List ways you can better follow His will.
3. Know others need to hear more about God’s love.
4. Seek ways to share with them about the day of salvation.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know it is important to follow the rules in this world so we can keep order. We know when we break the law there are consequences. Help us, we pray, to do what is right in Your eyes. We need to get more into Your world to learn what You want us to do to share Your word with others. Help us to listen to You and obey You. Help us to be zealous about sharing Your word with others and tell them of Your perfect plan and Your saving grace. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Matthew 13:16-17 “But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, but they didn’t see it. And they longed to hear what you hear, but they didn’t hear it.” (NLT)

Job 33:14-17 “For God speaks again and again, though people do not recognize it. He speaks in dreams, in visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they lie in their beds. He whispers in their ears and terrifies them with warnings. He makes them turn from doing wrong; he keeps them from pride.” (NLT)

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Luke 11:28 “Jesus replied, ‘But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.’” (NLT)

May 30, 2021 LISTENING EARS

When a baby begins to cry, parents usually go to them to see if they are okay. When a child gets into a dangerous area, a parent usually stops them from going any further. The parent will remove them from the danger so they won’t be harmed. For parents to notice if their children are in harms way, they have to be close by and listening out for them. They listen to ensure they hear any calls or cries from their child because they love them and want them to be safe.

The same is true with God. He listens and wants to protect us. He is watching us and when we get into trouble, He is ready to help. We can always trust in God to be there for us. We can always know God wants us to be safe. We can rely on His help when we are in danger or when we are suffering. We are so blessed to have God who is ready to help. He is listening and watching. We should share with others about our caring God so they can have the same comfort and peace we have knowing God is near.

SCRIPTURE:
Genesis 19:29 “But God had listened to Abraham’s request and kept Lot safe, removing him from the disaster that engulfed the cities on the plain.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write about how great it is that God hears you.
2. List ways God has watched over and protected you.
3. Know God loves you and is always listening.
4. Thank God for His love and listening ears.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we thank You for Your listening ear. We know we can call on You day or night and You will hear us. We are so grateful You are watching and listening so we can be safe. We are thankful You watch over us and protect us. Help us to remember to share how much You care for Your children with others. We want to let them know You are with them and listening out for them as well. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Psalm 31:2 “Turn your ear to listen to me; rescue me quickly. Be my rock of protection, a fortress where I will be safe.” (NLT)

2 Chronicles 6:19 “Nevertheless, listen to my prayer and my plea, O Lord my God. Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is making to you.” (NLT)

Psalm 71:2 “Save me and rescue me, for you do what is right. Turn your ear to listen to me, and set me free.” (NLT)

John 9:31 “We know that God doesn’t listen to sinners, but he is ready to hear those who worship him and do his will.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Isaiah 59:1 “Listen! The Lord’s arm is not too weak to save you, nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call.” (NLT)

May 29, 2021 PRACTICE HUMILITY

A lot of people believe those who are humble are just quiet and shy. Humble people don’t talk as much as those who are not so humble. They listen more. They choose to listen and learn rather than share all they know because they realize they really don’t know everything. Humility is not thinking less of ourselves but thinking of ourselves less. When we are humble, we look at what others need and how we can help. We can do that best when we listen. If we want to practice humility, we need to learn to listen.

God tells us we are to humble ourselves before Him. That means we are to submit our lives – our days and even our moments – to Him. We are to listen to Him knowing we know nothing compared to what He knows. We are to remember we are nothing without Him. We are to practice humility by giving our days to Him so He can do His will through us. When we become proud and choose to go our own way, we are not living a humble life at all and it is more than likely we are not listening to God or to others.

SCRIPTURE:
Daniel 10:12 “Then he said, ‘Don’t be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day you began to pray for understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your request has been heard in heaven. I have come in answer to your prayer.’” (NLT)

James 3:13 “If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to practice humility.
2. List what things God’s word says about being humble.
3. Know God wants you to humble yourself before Him.
4. Practice humility by listening more than you talk.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know You are great. We know You are powerful, loving and kind. Yet we continue to think we know best. We rarely listen to You when You speak and we often spend more time talking than we do listening. We do this with others and with You. We talk and talk without stopping to listen. Show us how to be more humble. Show us what to do to listen more than we talk. Help us to learn the steps of humility and live them out every day. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
James 4:7-8a “So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you.” (NLT)

1 Peter 3:8 “Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude.” (NLT)

Philippians 2:3-4 “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” (NIV)

FOCUS:
Matthew 5:5 “God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth.” (NLT)

May 28, 2021 EVEN MORE BENEFITS

We all know how frustrating it is not to understand something. Whether it is sixth grade math, instructions to play a game, or directions on a map. There are a great deal of things we just don’t understand automatically. We have to focus and pay attention as we listen or read very carefully so we can understand. We choose to focus because we really do want to understand so we can learn how to do something. When we decide to focus and not give up, then we begin to truly understand.

Just imagine if we focused that well when we listened to others – or to God. If we focused with so much intention because we truly wanted to understand, then we would have an even greater understanding. God tells us to pay close attention to what we hear. He tells us the closer we listen, the more understanding we will have and the more blessings we will receive. God’s blessings far outweigh the things of the world. That is why we need to be intentionally listening to God rather than this world.

SCRIPTURE:
Mark 4:24-25 “Then he added, ‘Pay close attention to what you hear. The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given—and you will receive even more. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them.’” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to really listen to God’s word.
2. List benefits from truly focusing and listening to understand.
3. Know God promises to bless those who listen to Him.
4. Practice listening with intention to better understand God’s word.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we thank You for Your word. We want to better understand Your word and how it applies to our lives. Help us to be more focused and proactive in listening to Your messages. We want to listen with the intention of understanding Your word and how we can apply it to help others and to serve You. Show us Your will for our lives, Lord. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Hebrews 2:1 “So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.” (NLT)

1 Timothy 4:8-9 “’Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.’ This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Proverbs 19:27 “If you stop listening to instruction, my child, you will turn your back on knowledge.” (NLT)

May 27, 2021 ADDED BENEFITS

Listening. It is a skill that we can all improve on. Rather than thinking about what we are going to say next, we should listen. Rather than wondering if our hair looks okay or what others may think about us, we should listen. Rather than making mental lists of what we need to do later in the day, we should listen. Rather than staring down at our phones or watching the television, we should listen. Giving our full attention to someone when they speak will help us learn more about them and show them we care. But that is not the only benefit of listening.

After we listen to someone and learn more about them, we can intentionally remember what they said. We can find ways to connect them with others who can help them. We can seek opportunities for them to get involved in to help them grow. We can do this with our children, our spouses, our other family members, our co-workers, friends, church members, etc. The more we take time to listen to them, the more we can learn and seek ways to help them grow doing what they enjoy the most using their strengths to help others. Next time someone is talking, ask questions and really listen to get ideas on how to add value to them and others.

SCRIPTURE:
Hebrews 10:24-25 “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write who you need to listen to more.
2. List ways you can connect them with others.
3. Ask them more questions to learn more about them.
4. Encourage them and seek opportunities for them to grow.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, there are people all around us with potential to do great things. Some of them may not realize their potential. Others may have low self-confidence. Some may not know where to go or who to connect with to develop and grow their skills. Help us to improve our listening skills and learn about what others enjoy doing so we can help them. We can point them in the right direction to connect with others who have the same interests, or we can help them to grow their talents in other ways. Please give us opportunities to listen with the intent to help others grow. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Acts 20:35 “And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (NLT)

Philippians 2:3-4 “Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
1 Thessalonians 5:11 “So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.” (NLT)

May 26, 2021 SHARING IS CARING

It has been said that people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. We don’t truly know the burdens of others unless we take time to listen to them. If we are too busy or we are too distracted with our own issues, we won’t take time to find out how others are doing. This may seem to be like an added burden to us but it’s not really.

There are really benefits for us to listen to others who are going through hard times. When we take time to listen to the burdens of other, it will take our minds off our problems. When we listen to others, we can find ways to help them so they will get some relief. When we let others know we care and that we can help, we are doing the will of God and we will be blessed.

God didn’t put us on earth to go through it alone. If we feel we are alone in any situation, we need to first go to God. Then we need to find someone who will listen. We can join a small group of others who may be dealing with the same issues. We can confide in a trusted friend or family member. We can also talk with them about what is going on in their lives and seek ways to help them as well. And most of all, we can pray.

SCRIPTURE:
2 Chronicles 7:14-15 “Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. My eyes will be open and my ears attentive to every prayer made in this place.” (NLT)

Galatians 6:2 “Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to encourage others to share with you.
2. List ways you can listen more to the burdens of others.
3. Know God wants you to show others that you care.
4. Listen and pray with them so they know they are not alone.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, there are a lot of lonely people in this world who are suffering. They are dealing with things no one else knows about but You. Show us these people, Lord. Help us to reach out to them and let them know we are listening and that we care. We ask that Your Holy Spirit work through us today to seek these people out, ask them about their lives and pray with them for a solution to whatever they are dealing with. We want to be people who truly care about others and are ready to listen to them. Help us, we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
James 5:16 “Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” (NLT)

Hebrews 5:7 “While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God.” (NLT)

Luke 18:1 “One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
1 John 5:14 “And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him.” (NLT)

May 25, 2021 DON’T MISINTERPRET

We may all remember the whisper game. It is also called the gossip game. It is where we whisper something to someone in a group and they pass around what they believe they heard until the message gets to the last person. Then the last person says what he or she heard and it is almost always a different message than the original one. That is a fun game but it holds a lot of truth. We need to be careful of what we hear and what we repeat. Many a misunderstand has happened due to misinterpreted messages.

How we listen is important for understand and clarity. Also, it is important for translating and sharing. If we are sharing a story about someone or something that happened to us, we want to give the facts and not add to it to make it sound more interesting. It is the same when sharing God’s word. God wants us to be sure the messages we share from the Bible are accurate as well. We need to be sure what we share from His word is correct. We are not to add to His word, change it, or take anything away from it.

SCRIPTURE:
Revelation 22:18-19 “And I solemnly declare to everyone who hears the words of prophecy written in this book: If anyone adds anything to what is written here, God will add to that person the plagues described in this book. And if anyone removes any of the words from this book of prophecy, God will remove that person’s share in the tree of life and in the holy city that are described in this book.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to understand God’s word.
2. List ways you can better listen and learn.
3. Remember God’s word should be shared as it is written.
4. Be careful of how you share it and listen out for those who may share it incorrectly.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we want to be careful about repeating what You have written in Your word. We know how powerful and instructional Your words are. Help us to listen and pay attention to what Your word means. We want to share Your word and we pray You will guide us with the right words to say. Help us to be careful not to misinterpret the meaning of Your word as we hear it and as we share it. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
2 Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” (NLT)

1 John 4:6 “But we belong to God, and those who know God listen to us. If they do not belong to God, they do not listen to us. That is how we know if someone has the Spirit of truth or the spirit of deception.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Proverbs 30:6 “Do not add to his words, or he may rebuke you and expose you as a liar.” (NLT)

May 24, 2021 SPEAK GRATITUDE

No one likes a negative Nelly or a naysayer Ned. We may listen to them for a while but soon we will become weary of hearing their woes. We could tell them to be grateful for what they do have, but it is up to them to change their mindset from negative to positive. We could also be a positive role model for them. The more we look on the bright side and find the silver lining in things, the more they will see there is good in all things. Maybe that will help change their words from grumpy to grateful.

God doesn’t want us to be negative or grumpy. He tells us what He wants to hear. God wants to hear our thankfulness. He says He doesn’t need our worldly gifts as a sacrifice. Everything already belongs to Him as it says in Psalm 24:1. We may have woes and He does want to hear them to so He can help us. However, He tells us to make thankfulness our sacrifice to Him. He wants us to call on Him when we are in trouble. He wants us to give Him the glory and share what He did for us with others.

SCRIPTURE:
Psalm 50:14-15 “Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High. Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.” (NLT)

Psalm 24:1 “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to show gratitude to God.
2. List ways you can be a positive example to someone.
3. Know God wants you to make thankfulness your sacrifice to Him.
4. Seek ways to be a positive and godly role model for others.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we are so grateful for this life You have given to us. We know all that we have is Yours. There is nothing on this earth we can give to You that does not already belong to You. So we give You praise for Who You are. We are so grateful for all the blessings You give to us. Help us to remember to show gratitude to You and be a positive example to others. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
1 Thessalonians 5:18 “Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” (NLT)

Proverbs 17:22 “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Psalm 50:23a “But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me.” (NLT)

May 23, 2021 SOMEONE IS LISTENING

Whether we realize it or not, others are listening to what we say. They hear us and they watch what we do. We can have a positive or negative impact on others every day. We should stay aware of what we say and how we say it so we don’t lead others down a wrong path. What we say to others should be encouraging, positive and uplifting despite what they say or do. What we say could be the one right thing they hear that will truly help them.

We certainly don’t want to say words that will bring others down or lead them down a wrong path in life. It takes a lot of practice and is a great deal of discipline to choose words that will make an impact on others. God tells us we need to be mindful of what we say. He tells us our words should be encouraging and helpful. That means creating a habit of taking our focus off ourselves and focus on others so we truly know what they need to hear. It means refusing to gossip but instead speak with love and sincerity.

SCRIPTURE:
Ephesians 4:29 “The words of the godly encourage many, but fools are destroyed by their lack of common sense.” (NLT)

Proverbs 18:20-21 “Wise words satisfy like a good meal; the right words bring satisfaction. The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you words have said lately.
2. List what ways you can improve on what you say.
3. Know God wants your words to encourage others.
4. Pray asking God to help you to have the right words to say.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we sometimes speak without thinking. We sometimes say things that are hurtful and not helpful. We sometimes say things not realizing others are listening. Help us with our words, Lord. We want to be more aware of what we speak and how we say it. Help us think and pray before we open our mouths to speak. We only want to say words that are pleasing to You and uplifting to others. Help us, we pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Proverbs 10:21 “The words of the godly encourage many, but fools are destroyed by their lack of common sense.” (NLT)

Matthew 12:36-37 “And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Proverbs 10:32 “The lips of the godly speak helpful words, but the mouth of the wicked speaks perverse words.” (NLT)

May 22, 2021 LET’S TALK

It is pretty obvious if we want others to hear us, we have to talk. No one is a mind reader but sometimes we think they are. Many wives believe their husbands should read their minds and know what they should be doing and when to do it. However, that just doesn’t happen. And when it doesn’t happen, turmoil in the home begins. If we want someone to know how we feel and what we need, we have to tell them.

It’s the same with God. Although He is powerful and all-knowing, He wants us to come to Him with our concerns and our desires. He wants us to ask. He wants us to communicate with Him. We have to talk to God if we want Him to hear and answer. God is ready to hear what we have to say. He wants to hear our deepest secrets and thoughts. Let’s start our conversations with Him every morning and talk to Him all day long.

SCRIPTURE:
Matthew 7:7-8 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write down how much you talk to God.
2. List ways you can talk more to Him.
3. Know God is waiting to hear from you.
4. Start talking to Him each morning and continue all day long.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know You are with us. We know You are ready to hear us speak out to You. We want to converse with You morning, noon, and night. We want to share our thoughts, ideas, and desires. However, we get busy with life and sometimes go all day without even thinking about You. Please forgive us, Lord. Please remind us to start our days with You and continue our conversations with You all throughout the day. We know You long to hear from us. Thank You for Your desire to listen and to answer our prayers. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Psalm 143:8 “Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you.” (NLT)

Psalm 143:10 “Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Psalm 55:17 “Morning, noon, and night I cry out in my distress, and the Lord hears my voice.” (NLT)

May 21, 2021 DON’T BE SWAYED BY OTHERS

There are many people who can’t do anything on their own. They are not able to make decisions without asking others what they should do. While it is good to get opinions, we need to be careful about taking wrong advice. If we ask the wrong people and follow what they say to do, we could end up in a heap of trouble. Some people want to hurt us not help us. We should be careful who we listen to. We are to remember to put our trust in God and not man. God always knows the right thing to do.

While we should listen to the needs of others, we need to be careful not to fall into temptation and be led away from God. When we are trying to help them, we could easily be pulled down into a trap created by Satan. God wants us to listen to others so we can know how to help, but He doesn’t want us falling into the same temptations they are dealing with. That is why we need to stay strong in His word, draw close to Him and seek His guidance as we listen to and help others.

SCRIPTURE:
Jeremiah 17:5-8 “This is what the Lord says: ‘Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the Lord. They are like stunted shrubs in the desert, with no hope for the future. They will live in the barren wilderness, in an uninhabited salty land. But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.’” (NLT)

Galatians 6:1 “Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you can do to keep from going down a wrong path.
2. List ways you can help others but also remain focused on God.
3. Know God wants you to listen to others but to obey only Him.
4. Remember to share God’s word lovingly but stay aware of temptations.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know we can easily be tempted. There are people in the world right now who are hurting and in need. You want us to seek them out and listen to them. You want us to share Your love with them and help them. Help us to remember to obey You and help them but to remain alert to the ways of Satan and not fall into his traps. Help us remember to take Your word and apply it to our lives and not listen to those who want to harm us or lead us astray. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
2 Chronicles 20:20b “Believe in the Lord your God, and you will be able to stand firm. Believe in his prophets, and you will succeed.” (NLT)

Proverbs 15:9 “The Lord detests the way of the wicked, but he loves those who pursue godliness.” (NLT)

Psalm 118:8 “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in people.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
2 Chronicles 19:9b “You must always act in the fear of the Lord, with faithfulness and an undivided heart.” (NLT)

May 20, 2021 OUR INNER VOICE

Sometimes our inner voice tells us to do something or not do something. When we listen to it and go with our instincts, things sometimes work out. Other times, our inner voice will bring up negative things from the past or things we are worried about in the future. Our inner voice can speak to us without us truly realizing it. It works deep within our minds silently controlling what we do or don’t do. We have to decide what is actually true when we are listening to our inner voice and what is simple fear or worry or doubt. Listening to and following what we think or believe is not always the best route to take.

So if we shouldn’t listen to ourselves all the time, then who should we listen to? The Bible tells us to follow only God’s instruction. The Bible tells us to lean not on our own understanding but to trust only in God. We may have the best intentions for us but God has the better way. He knows what is going to happen already and when we choose to listen to Him and follow His will, we can be certain the outcome will be perfect. That doesn’t mean things will always go right. It means God will not lead us down a wrong path. Even when things look rough, God plan is to help us get through it if we will listen to Him.

SCRIPTURE:
Isaiah 55:9 “For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” (NLT)

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what your inner voice has told you in the past.
2. List what has happened when you chose to listen to God.
3. Know God’s ways and thoughts are greater than yours.
4. Trust only in God and His ways. Don’t lean on your own understanding.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we are merely human and we have wrong thoughts all the time. We can only base our choices and decisions on what we know. We only know what we have experienced or read or heard. Help us stop listening to our inner voices and to listen to You instead. We want to lean on You and Your word rather that what we think we know. We put our trust in You, Lord, and seek the ways You want us to go. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Galatians 5:16 “So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.” (NLT)

Psalm 37:4-5 “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
1 Kings 22:5 “Then Jehoshaphat added, ‘But first let’s find out what the Lord says.’” (NLT)

May 19, 2021 THOSE IN NEED

We often see people in need but we do nothing. We may pass by them and do nothing because we are too busy or we aren’t sure if they are truly in need. There are times we don’t even see them because we are wrapped up in our own thoughts and issues. There are people we encounter each day who are in need but we will never know because we are to busy to stop and to listen.

If God were too busy to listen to those in need, what would this world look like? There would be no hope. There would be no love. There would be nothing good to look forward to. God is so good that He listens to those who are in need. He tells us to do the same. Throughout His word, He tells us to take care of those who are poor and in need. Let’s take time to listen to others and see how we can help.

SCRIPTURE:
Psalm 69:33a “For the Lord hears the cries of the needy;” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to help those in need.
2. List ways you can seek them out more and listen to them.
3. Know God wants you to help those less fortunate than you.
4. Seek ways to listen to and help those in need.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we are all in need at times and we can always count on You to help. Thank You for listening to our needs and providing for us. We want to take more time in our busy days to look for opportunities to help those in need. We want to be better listeners to them so we can know exactly what they need and how we can help. Show us how to be more compassionate and caring for others. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Acts 20:35 “And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (NLT)

1 Timothy 6:18b “They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Hebrews 13:16 “And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.” (NLT)

Today is the best day to begin making changes for yourself and others both inside and out!

May 18, 2021 BE STILL AND LISTEN

Most people have a hard time dealing with silence. Some even can’t seem to even sit still for a long period of time. However, to better hear others, we should practice sitting in silence so we can learn to concentrate without distraction. We have created a world of constant noise so we have grown accustomed to it which makes it harder to be comfortable with silence. But if we think back to around 100 years ago, we would envision a much quieter world. There were no phones, televisions, fewer vehicles and much less noise and distractions. Today, we have to go somewhere intentionally to find complete quiet in order to practice sitting still and listening.

However, if we would practice sitting quietly and listening, we would hear so much that we wouldn’t normally hear. Many inventors and geniuses practice sitting alone in the dark to quiet their minds to come up with ideas from within. Others enjoy practicing meditation in a quiet room to experience more peace and have a less stressed life.

There is something even more significant about being quiet, still and listening. It was written long ago to go off to a quiet place to pray. God also tells us to be still and listen. When we have less distractions, it just makes sense that we can hear more. When we still ourselves daily and put our focus on God, great things will come to our minds. Let’s practice being still and listening so we can allow God to speak to us.

SCRIPTURE:
Psalm 37:7a “Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you can do to practice being still.
2. List places you can go to experience complete silence.
3. Know God will speak to you when you are still in His presence.
4. Spend time alone daily with God in silence and prayer.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know this world is loud. There is a lot going on and it can be overwhelming at times. However, You tell us to be still. You want us to have some quiet time with You daily. You want to speak to us in the quietness of our days. Show us ways we can practice being still and quiet so we can better hear Your message to us. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Luke 11:28 “Jesus replied, ‘But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.’” (NLT)

Psalm 119:165 “Those who love your instructions have great peace and do not stumble.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Psalm 46:10a “Be still, and know that I am God!” (NLT)

May 17, 2021 REFRESHMENTS NEEDED

We all enjoy refreshments. The best get-togethers always have good refreshments. There is just something about getting together around a table or at a party that brings us refreshment. After a good time together and good food, we are full and we are refreshed. We are so refreshed that we are relaxed and happy and content. Enjoying the company of others and eating together are good for minds, bodies and souls.

We can experience refreshment every day when we choose to spend time and listen to God. He can refresh us like no one else can. God can refresh us and bring us back to Him when we are stressed, feeling out of whack, or wiped out. His Living Water will refresh us, give us a new focus, and a new strength. So next time we feel like things just aren’t right and we are off track, we can turn to God and open our ears to hear what He tells us in His word. True and lasting refreshment comes from God.

With that same thought, we can help others. When we hear them talk about their issues and their problems, we can point them to God by sharing what He has done for us. We can tell them about His refreshing word and how He can give them new hope and strength despite what they are going through. God’s word is able to refresh us and others but we have to be willing to listen to Him and to share His word with others.

SCRIPTURE:
Psalm 19:7a “The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul.” (NIV)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to be refreshed by God’s word.
2. List ways you can help others enjoy His refreshment.
3. Know God wants you to be free from burdens and to be refreshed.
4. Seek ways to stay in God’s word and to share His word with others.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we get tired at times. We get lazy. We get bored and we stray from You. We sometimes feel like something in this world could help us. However, there is nothing in this world like You. There is no refreshment we can obtain from the world that will give us the strength, the power, and the love that You give. Help us remember to listen to Your word so we stay refreshed and so we can help others as well. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Psalm 23:1-3 “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.” (NIV)

Matthew 11:28-30 “Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.’” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Psalm 42:1-2 “As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him?” (NLT)

May 16, 2021 KEEP LISTENING

We all have our favorite songs we have listened to over and over for countless hours. We have listened so much we know each word by heart and can sing the songs without the music even playing. There are other things we have repeatedly listened to such as shows, audio books, etc. that we have most of them memorized and are quick to share what we have heard with others, when needed. The more we listen to something over and over, the more it will permeate in our brains and help us.

Listening strengthens our faith in God. When we listen to His word over and over, we are more apt to remember it when things get tough or when we are trying to help a friend in need. When we continue to listen to God’s word, we will find it helpful when we are dealing with hard times or trying to make a right decision. When we keep listening to God’s word, we will become wise, be blessed and learn to live an obedient life to Him. As we listen more and more to the word of God, our faith will strengthen and we will grow more and more to be like Christ.

SCRIPTURE:
Romans 10:17 “So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write how you listen to God’s word daily.
2. List ways you can learn more about His word.
3. Know God will strengthen your faith when you study His word.
4. Seek ways to listen to God and to His word every day.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we are strengthened by Your word when we study and listen to it. We need to remember to stay in Your word so we can know what we are to do that is according to Your will. Thank You for Your word and that it is readily available to all people. Help us remember to listen to You and Your word daily for strength and wisdom. You tell us that our faith will come from hearing Your Good News. And we are so grateful for Your word. Thank You, Lord. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Colossians 3:16 “Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.” (NLT)

Romans 15:4 “Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Psalm 4:3 “You can be sure of this: the Lord sets apart the godly for himself. The Lord will answer when I call to him.” (NLT)
