Cherie, can you eat the beans (not green, but the others)? They are supposed to be high in protein. I can't eat them, but if you can that might be a help. Soy, lentils, etc. raise proteins.

My problem is not getting enough calories when I try to go low carb. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get low carb lately. I've been eating too many sweets.

Hi and thanks for reviving this thread!
My go-to proteins are eggs, chicken breast and low-fat cottage cheese as I don't tolerate a lot of red meat. Sometimes I do have whey protein when necessary.

i use some protein powder in my morning oatmeal...not what they recommend. there are more than one way to add protein. i also can have less protein in my diet and oh, yes, the gas i get the with some veggies. some items that add protein gives me problems like peanuts and regular milk. will check out some things here on spark to help you. right now i must get moving and get some things done here at home. take care for now.

New to spark, not new to the issue of not getting enough protein in, my tracker is saying the same. I am not reaching the low number needed.. so frustrating for me, when I focus to take in more protein, it affects my intestines and creates painful movement on its way out
Looking into How I can increase protein with out the side affect. Did you figure it out? I have resorted to protein powders a few time..

I have always thought about trying protien powders in shakes and puddings and one of these days I am actually going to do it.

I've never tried protein shakes but it's something to consider.

Just hit the team page and noticed your topic here. Do any of you add protein shakes to increase protein? I have been told to do that before.

I don't have much problem with the protein I don't think, but when I go low carb I end up way low on calories. I have diabetes so I am supposed to go no grain, no potatoes (I don't do too well at it at times), no sugar, etc. So I mainly have chicken, eggs and cheese. If I can manage ground beef (almost never) I will get it and if they have pork roast on sale I will get it and make green chili. Lately, most of what I make is soup or green chili. Though my protein is probably still on the low end of what I am supposed to have.

I'm doing OK lately with the protein. Made the slow-cooker salsa chicken recipe which is really good with lots of lean protein. I eat it left-over, too.

I hear you on that! Fortunately we only live about 13 miles from a quite large grocery store where the prices are quite competitive.

I went to the store today to see what I could get for protein...I got a fat free cottage cheese..it's all they had and was going to get yogurt but all they had was the little ones and they were so expensive...living in a small village with one store can be a disadvantage sometimes.

Yea, cheese is high in fat and therefore calories. I do like the reduced fat mozzarella, and extra sharp cheddar adds a lot of flavor-- and I weigh it out. I like black beans and brown rice with salsa, heated and eaten as a main dish. It is quite high in carbs but has protein and fiber too.

I've tried adding some beans and I'm going to eat more eggs. I find the cheese a hard one because it adds fat and calories. I did better yesterday ..at least I was at the low end of the range of protein needed. I need to get soem cottage cheese, I love it as a dessert with fruit.

I have issues getting enough protein also and am usually high on carbs and fats. I love fruit and cheese. My go-to proteins have become eggs, 1% fat cottage cheese, kefir and yogurt, and chicken. I also buy deli turkey slices occasionally but I know it's full of stuff we should not eat. We also have venison, farm raised pork and beef, but I mostly make it for my husband. I also love soups and make sure they are loaded with veggies and some protein.

I can't seem to get enough protein in my diet. Everyday I check my food tracker and I am over on carbs and fat and really low on protein. Fruits and veggies are easy.
So this morning I started the day with two boiled eggs with a slice of toast and jam. I was going to omit the toast BUT...Greg's sister gave us a loaf of homemade bread and I thought that I should at least try it so I could tell her it was delicious and be truthful....and it was.
I really like cheese but I like regular full fat cheeses...so that's not a good option.
Anyone else having this issue? I need to get the protein up and the carbs down and that is my new goal .
