Greetings on a Saturday! Was typing a message and it just disappeared. Will try again. We have never been able to use our mainframe computer again after it got "hacked". The laptop is one that we use on trips. Cathy -- hope you are doing well and will let us know how you have recovered. Had some rain yesterday from the fast-moving storm that started in the gulf states. Now we are much cooler and having a sunny day. Spent time cleaning up the yard and making a trip to the "dump" with leaves and limbs. Have the yard decorated for Halloween, but we never have any visitors. My husband's latest CT Scan shows that the chemotherapy is still helping, so he will continue with the infusions at the cancer center for another 3 months. My brother in Hawaii and his wife are moving to N. California near where our two sisters and their family are located and also our middle son and his son. They lived in Hilo for about 25 years. Our brother in Eureka, California is now in Central Oregon with most of his family. After his major heart attack and stents put in his heart, he had to retire from his two jobs. He will be 67 years old in a couple of weeks. We lost our mother 36 years ago to cancer. She didn't get to meet many of her grandchildren. I miss all of them very much, but we can't travel now. Hope you are having nice weather and can "celebrate" the change of seasons. Stay safe! Will be so glad when the election is over (I hate politics and all the bickering and waste of money). Will set up the November venue for chatting tomorrow.

Hello group -- So glad that Lily is doing well. Our grand-daughter is named Lily. She is 13 years old. Our dog really likes her, but she is busy with school and volleyball and dance. Haven't seen her yet this month. Her parents are busy with their jobs and their church. Haven't seen in our grandchildren in Florida in about 15 months -- we haven't been able to drive down there in several years. Now it has been 2 1/2 years since we have seen our grandson in N. California. We used to go to Nevada and California twice a year. Now the West Coast may as well be the moon. Having more rain this afternoon. We do see pictures of our family on Facebook -- at least we can see what they look like. Elsie -- bless you for rescuing that dog!

Greetings furry friends and owners -- So nice to see all your postings. My life is mainly trying to keep up with my spouse and dog and cat and the house and yard. Our dog saved my husband when his oxygen level got too low in December of 2018. Jeff-dog came to get me and we rushed my spouse to the ER. It took until April of 2019 before he got his diagnosis of Stage 4 small cell cancer of both lungs. Since my husband sleeps with an oxygen concentrator and I sleep with a C-Pap machine, the dog spends half of the night with each of us and will get up with either of us when we awaken in different rooms. His foot isn't doing much better and now I am wrapping it so he won't keep licking it -- the pad seems to be torn in the right front foot. The vet didn't help much -- gave his some steroids. Would love to get another dog to keep Jeff company. He is so lonely with just an old cat. My husband had another C-T Scan last week and we will get the results this Tuesday. Keep doing well Cathy with your post-surgery routine. Stay safe/use your masks/wear gloves if needed...

Lily deserves the beautiful name you have given her. Yesterday was two steps forwards, one backward. I am moving around more, and more alert, but cutting back the oxycodone so often in more pain. Up now though and dressed. Feeling great about that. Want GD to buy me a dry shampoo cap. Hair is bugging me. See I am getting better.

Buds is all forlorn and on and at my feet like glue. He is quite the fur nurse. He has always been very cognizant of injuries and likes to smell them and offer sympathy and love. I have told this story many times here, but not sure if you have heard it. When he was still a puppy I had a sleep apnea event with my cpap. Pressure was too low. I woke with him jumping on my chest. He probably weighed 35 pounds at the time. I woke gasping and with chest pain. Took my card in at the time and sure enough I had a major apnea event. They scheduled me for another sleep study and upped the pressure four points. My newest machine is connected to the sleep lab by blue tooth and it is an apap so adapts to a range of pressures accounting for colds, weight gains and losses.

Elsie,
Glad Daisy is doing well from her surgery. Dogs are so non complainers.

I on the other hand wake both myself and my granddaughter gasping and moaning from my surgery. Think we have the pain meds balanced now so I shouldn't be so difficult. Am able to sit up for ten minutes between walking and laying down. So decided to get my imperfect food order in and talk to my Mixed Mutt friends. Off for another walk now.

We have been chatting a lot of years. I remember when all our dogs were young.

Keeping all the elderly pups in my heart and prayers.

Buds and I walked about a half mile by the river today which is a lot farther than I usually walk. When we got home the ancient neighborhood white lab was loose and heading to the main road. Buds and I followed him and then herded him back into the park. He was so happy with his new found walking pack he stayed with us and then decided to lead us back to his apartment complex. We told him goodbye at the shortcut he was taking through another neighbors yard or I would have walked with him the whole way. I think the owners let him out to pee and then don't stay and watch him thinking he won't go far. Ran into other neighbors walking their dogs. They lost one recently and just got themselves a corgi/aussie (Auggie) blend like the other one they still have. It is adorable. But the thing is I probably walked a mile today. Glad it was in two sets. I was hurting by the time I got back to the house but feel better now.

Mutt is 14 now, is covered with .looks to me like large skin tags but the vet says are tumors, He has had them for years but it seams he is getting more fast., he has arthritis in his front paw but like the stubborn old man he is thinks he can still do a 3 mile walk till about 1/2 way into the second mile he lays down. The vet we had in TX said as long as he wanted his walk to take him, so we do our mile everyday. Right now I don't have a vet. The nearest vet is 60 miles away.. Mutt gets car sick at 4 miles. The one we did have was trying to retire. Had his clinic up for sale and he was only working a few hours a day. Then this virus hit. No one wants to buy the clinic and he doesn't want to work.

Hello Group -- Sending lots of prayers and "good vibes" for your surgery, Cathy. It has been a sad week in our neighborhood. The doggy that I walked for our neighbor that was also our dog's best friend (Bella -- 10 year old Pitt Bull mix) had to be put to sleep on Saturday because her cancer spread after the uterus was removed. About 7 weeks ago, the owner and I noticed that she was bleeding whenever she urinated or defecated. Our local vet. did the surgery and had sent her home with lots of pills. She kept getting worse -- more bleeding, loss of weight, etc. No follow-up x-rays were done. Bella finally had to be confined to the garage and seemed in pain. Due to having children visiting over the week-end, the neighbor took Bella to the vet. and had her re-examined. The vet said that she needed to be put to sleep. Our dog keeps looking for her. Meanwhile, our dog cut his foot or got into some fire ants because he started limping. Now he is on medication and has to be kept quiet. More storms coming to our area when the latest hurricane swings through Louisiana. We shouldn't get too much rain, but may have windy days. It went back into the 80s for highs.

Two apex predators managed to find mutual benefit in a close relationship that is considered "commensal" -- dogs developed an intense, familial bond with humans.

Ughh.... my hematocrit came back just over the line for High. I might have been slightly dehydrated. Not sure if that is going to impact my surgery. Phone consult with PA today. That was nice and I got more details about the surgery. I thought they were just straightening the tail bone with the rods, but apparently there is to be some scraping and gluing bone onto the rods to strengthen them. I feel like a clay statue being reshaped. He said to wait on getting shower chairs and risers as I might not need them. It does sound like I will be staying overnight at least one night maybe two.

Yes, it is good. The back surgery is scheduled for Oct. 13th. I had a video conference with pre op nurse this morning and later labs, ekg and nasal swab at clinic . Have to stop all the blood thinner type stuff on Saturday so no more fish oil, vitamins or nsaids. I would love to be able to hike again and to launch my own kayak. I am feeling very positive.
